After nearly winning the Championship and losing his right leg in 1992 and spending 18 months before it was reasonably OK, and using a hand-operated rear brake!
@@MrGutfeeling To be completely fair, the rear brake didn't see a huge amount of use in the 500 era. But still legendary. I heard a story once about a copper pulling Doohan over for popping a mono on a dirt bike, and telling him, while writing the ticket, that "he'd learn to ride a bike someday".
I have a photograph of Wayne Gardner and Mick Doohan talking on the track holding the Honda, Gardner giving advise to a young attentive Mick...then he just went on to become a legend!!!
I watched him the year before, riding in the TZR Cup, 250 production bike racing, although the TZR's were probably the closest thing to a racing 250 that ever got on the road, at Mallala, and you could pretty much have thrown a blanket over the whole field, except for Mick. Did a runner in both races, it was like he was on a different bike. I was at the hairpin watching, and he was leaving black lines with his FRONT tire as well as the rear, yet never quite falling off. I said to my mates right there, that we were witnessing the rise of a special talent.
good to see Mick and Bazza leading the way on safety apparel !
Seeing this in 2022 is really something... He was unbeatable in the era of the unridables...
Imagine if he did'nt fuck his leg up so bad in 92, still came second in the 92 500 GP championchip after missing the last 5 rounds.
How much of a legend is he. What a bloke, just driven by the passion for his skill. Love Mick Doohan
Amazing to see him come from that to an immortal legend of the sport.
what an era . .
And then he went for 5 GP titles..crazy..

@@JakeDemuss90210 Maybe you're right, but I still reckon Doohan at least one upped the guy.I was a massive Bazza fan as well, back in the day.

Love this. Mick and Bazza. Legends
Doohan exits the front door first , squeezes past Barry. #Always Winning
