People, especially Australians, don't realise how successful Gardner was in car racing in Japan, winning multiple top line Japanese racing championships. Then he came back to run Bathurst in the Coke~Cola Commodore, put it on Pole Position in Hardies Heros, and dominated the race for his first stint from the start, before handing it to Neil Bates, who was, 2 seconds a lap slower, and put it into the sand trap on top of the mountain. Man Gardner had to hold his tongue, but as he said, he did what was required of him, and proved a point.
A Gallagher only because all the best rider's were gone. so Mike had the 500's to his self, as soon as Mike crashed he gave it up, as will, if mike was racing when Wayne Rainey Wayne Gardner Kevin Swinish Randy Manola Eddy Lawson was racing with him. Doohan would never off won the world championship 4 time's maybe once but no way 4 times. Mike Doohan was there at the right time, while the best riders had left, mike had it all too his self until the younger blokes come up which took about 4 years. so if Mike was say Wayne Rainey or Gardner they would off won 4 years in a roll. mike Doohan was lucky being there at the right time.
@@colinwilkie2279 I'm going to cut and paste what I posted on another video literally 10 minutes ago. I cant be bothered typing it again lol. I'm more than happy to agree to disagree. Just my thoughts anyway. Cheers! "That 5 consecutive championships could have so easily ended up being 8 in a row. I know it's ifs, buts and maybes, but if they had of kept the same scoring system in '91 as they had the previous year Doohan would have won it in '91, barring injury would definitely have won it in '92, if he wasn't struggling so much with his injury in 1993 he quite possibly would have won in that year too. Then again, a lot of riders have would've, could've stories, but Mick has never been given enough credit especially by many Rainey and Schwantz fans (of which I am also a fan of them both too). They say Doohan had it easy and wouldn't have had anywhere near the success if the 2 Americans had of been there during Doohans 5 championships and while they have a point in that he probably wouldn't have won as many races and possibly championships as well, they neglect the fact that doohan was beating them regularly before his accident and also after. Anyway, they were all brilliant riders. Loved watching them all 👍"
Mick blitzed Gardener. Wayne was spewing that his underdog team mate took the stage. You can hear Gardener desperately trying to focus the light on his own career as a one hit wonder. Mick turned up and pulled the carpet from under him. Not only did Mick win, he flogged Gardener... and Wayne will never get over it. Gardener lived just down the road from me in Balgownie, Wollongong. I've seen the Mentor Motorcycle years and it was common knowledge in the racing industry that Gardener was spewing that Mick took the limelight and Gardener refused to pass on updates and improvements to the Honders... remember Mick had to engage his own mechanics, and Gardener shot himself in the foot yet again. Coz Mick blitzed him time and time again. So Gardener quit a sore loser. Any interview since, as soon as Mick's name is mentioned, Gardener turns white
Mick Doohan. The one person that introduced me to Motogp in early 90's.
Him and Wayne Rainey, good times. Stay safe.
I bought a Gardner rep helmet in the eighties, just bought a Doohan tt rep lid this week. Both stubborn, hard as nails Aussies, top blokes.
Mick Doohan, definitely one of my favorites.
Wayne: Me me me..................Mick: We we we
When I was a boy Wayne Gardner was as important to me as Allen Border. A true hero of Australian sport.
Wayne Gardner and Mick Doohan my Heroes !
The Wollongong Wizard and Mick Doohan it , legends :)
Thanks Mick for making me watching the Sunday grandprixes more importany than going to church

They are allowed to road race from 4 years old, in Australia 16 years old. Dirt only before that, slide the pig.
