@Tiger I. F. R. Tiger I empathize with your view of service members. There are certainly horrors inflicted on the civilian populations that are not forgivable. While it is no consolation, my job in the military was to search for and find explosive devices, weapons, and caches before they could be used to inflict harm on others--both Americans and local peoples. I did carry a weapon, which was to protect myself and my canine companion from immediate harm rather than to potentially inflict mortal wounds on passers by. While that may not change your opinion of me, I do not think ill of your position. I wish you well and all the best in this difficult time.

I'm an Austin Police Explorer and I'm proudly Gay! I am also proud to stand by my Police Department. The fact that they did this, is very touching and just makes me love APD that much more. I can't wait to be employed with them in the near future.

Police chief Alverado is now in Houston and we could not have a better man to lead our city. His record here already speaks volumes as to the man he is. We are very fortunate to have him in H-Town.
Religion should never interfere with the law.
So, you get to NEVER mention your wife, girlfriend, or children at work, then? You have to take your wedding ring off in the morning before you get there? No personal pictures of your spouse on your desk, and you never bring anyone at ALL to office parties? And never make any sort of pass at any woman in the office, no ass-grabbing or breast-staring, no innuendos and no asking out for drinks? You don't talk over or interrupt women you work with, or steal their ideas, or in other ways show you're a big bad alpha male man and they should shut up and take it?
I'm cool with that as a compromise, if you want to share our world.
If not, you can fuck RIGHT off out of the world entirely, dear, cuz you don't even see the water your fishy-ass condescension is swimming in, that you pour all over us.

I'm just seeing this video.. I have to say, Austin should be very PROUD of all of its' Police Officers. Chief Acevedo, kudos to you and your force for the courage and the time to encourage our young citizens to believe that "It does get better". Storms with all it's doom and gloom, are short lived~ they come and they're gone as quickly as they come... APD, Well said and well done. Bravo!!
It's so awful when people that are religious and believe that thou shalt not judge thy neighbor as thyself and they shut out people for being gay.
The city of Austin is a unique spot in Texas. If only the rest of the state followed their example.

My suggestion would be to get out of Texas.
When will it get better my good folks? With all the self righteous and prejudiced people out there who thinks they are right and others are wrong. Never mind that,do not be discouraged for we all have the right to live,my humble respects to all the police men and women who are truly amazing and deserve the full respect as law enforcement officers,you guys deserve it all the way,very inspiring video,gives me hope i love you guys you are the best i salute you.
I have noticed some gay people are some of the brightest and spiritual beings I have ever met. The day I noticed this, I grabbed the hand of a gay man and said, "Hey dude! You are my brother! God blessed you with a bright soul." I taught my children to respect them who in turn are teaching their own children. I am straight have no problems hugging a gay man. In fact I would rather hang out with some of my gay friends than straight friends. LOL No we all get along.
Thank you for this video. I use it in my Community and Human Relations course to show diversity in law enforcement. We sure have come a long way since I first got into this business which is good for the communities we serve. I'm glad it is "getting better."

It is getting better. It is a slow process
It makes me so sad that religion has ruined the lives of so many gay people. I was brought up by parents who were Buddhist and Shinto...but we were never devout. BOTH of my parents put my happiness before either religion, and when I asked them about this later in life...they both said that as parents, all they’ve really wanted was for me and my brother to be happy in life. The also both said that religions should be teaching us to love, accept, and include people who are different from us...so they said they never understood parents who put their God above their children. My parents also said that they knew I was gay from when I was a little kid (I knew about myself by the time I was 9 years old!)...so they both agreed that being gay wasn’t something that I chose, and that I was just born that way. Hehe. Before people say that it’s because my parents were younger than the parents of the people in this video...my dad was born in 1939 and my mom in 1943 (I’ll be 50 in a few years). So they were born during a time when homosexuality was frowned down upon...especially in Japanese families. I hope that the next generation of religious parents are more enlightened ‘cause the plight of LGBTQ members should be getting easier every year and every generation.

Complete Bizarroville that an individuals sexuality defines them, or would become a basis for a club or organization. Would it be socially acceptable for other variants of sexual taste to be broadcast? Even a proclamation of heterosexuality would seem absurd. Look at me I'm straight, I have heterosexual relations! How about HMWA, Heterosexual Men Women of America? Str8 Pride? Not to mention completely deviant expressions of sexuality. Ones sexuality should not be a proclamation, its rude.

I really wish I had some panacea, wise words or technique to take away your pain, but I don't. I do have some similar experience though. For many years I could only see or feel negatively about my lot in this world, closeted and always feeling alone I clung on by the skin of my teeth. I only came out aged 35 and up to that point and even after it I saw little hope for happiness. But it did come in the end. If I had taken drastic action and taken my own life I would not have the amazing memories which I cherish now. My first time being held by another man, walking hand in hand and unafraid, my very first kiss and how life affirming that was. You are young and have so much ahead of you, some bad but a lot that is good also. You may not see it now but stick around, find someone to share your problems and worries with and you definitely will.
Please keep your head up Juan, happiness will come.

I never said anything about laws. I only pointed out that they are perverting what God has ordained. Premarital hetero sex is also wrong, but at least it is a normal thing to be heterosexual. But all rebels against God need to turn from their sin, not only homosexuals.
