ok this might set you a little bit off track but you should be able to make a system of basic hopper filters at your mob farm where you can sort out stackable items into drawers so you can have a huge stockpile of those items and then the rest for trash or armor. I dont know if it works that way for blaze hoppers or if the the basic redstone filters actually work in this modpack of gregtech but you may want to test it anyways as it will save you a ton of time emptying chests. (for trash stackable items you can probably send them directly into trash cans using the exact same filter system).

Hey Dan! Saw you cutting down that diamond rod with your saw and filing it into a screw- dont do that! You can cut a rod into 4 bolts inside the cutting machine and the lathe will turn each bolt into 1 full screw! This way, later, you are able to get 8 screws out of a single ingot! (The MV Extruder with a rod shape can yield you 2 rods per ingot)

About different paths to make gears and such:
Alloy smelter + molds - ez but slow
Extruder - ALWAYS check power tier before going for it, usually it's +1 to what you're capable of, but it is the fastest
Fluid solidifier - fast and awailable, but you'll need fluid metals for it so check if you can melt needed material at current power tier
As for others pretty much if there is a lathe recipe - it is better. Especially for sawblades.
Also it is a bit early for that but when you get to multiblocks - go for them, it is always worth it to switch to a multiblock analog for any machine

I'm not sure if 1.7.10 is different or if GTNH changes anything, but in terms of mob farms, the most central ideas are to build as low as possible and to keep the mob cap empty/kill as fast as possible. The reason for building low is because the spawning algorithm picks a random block from 0 to the highest non-air block for spawning, so if the floor is y=0 and the ceiling is y=3 (height of 4 blocks), 1/4 of spawn attempts succeed. Compare that to if the floor is y=17 and the ceiling is y=20, only 1/20 spawn attempts succeed. This is also why you see mob farms with multiple layers, to add more possible success chances in an attempt to counteract the effect of building high, however a mob farm at the bottom of the world doesn't need multiple layers. The reasoning for killing fast is rather simple, a full mob cap prevents new mobs from spawning, so empty the cap as fast as you can to ensure you're not being limited by that. Funnily enough, being in a void world makes these principles unfathomably easier, since in a void world, building at y=0 isn't any harder than y=60, and the 'simplest' way of keeping the mob cap empty in a normal world is spawnproofing (or outright excavating) everything within render distance to guarantee the only mobs are those in your farm.
Applying those principles here, the chute of your current farm appears to be detrimental due to the added height, and it doesn't aid in faster kills because they're landing in water, hence, no damage. Additionally, in order to improve kill times, I'd recommend adding water bucket dispensers on a timer in the corners to periodically flush the mobs out into the kill chambers, instead of relying on pathfinding. Once you get access to the Openblocks fans, the design becomes as simple as a platform as low as possible pushing everything into spikes (you can probably get away with having no room for chests/hoppers below the farm by using the vacuum to suck drops upwards)

You’re now at the point you can renewably make obsidian using red stone. Build a lv rock breaker, put a bucket of water and lava next to it and give it red stone. This could fix your mob farm problem.
There is a thaumcraft plant than makes red stone blocks as well
As a general rule of thumb, any manual crafting recipe with a tool can be done more efficiently in a gregtech machine, always check, especially bolts and screws ect
The lv circuit assembler will let you make circuits at a massively reduced cost, although it is expensive to make
Using the chemical reactor and fluid solidifier you can 18x your efficiency of rubber production
Now you have the vacuum hopper you can autocraft all the exp bucket recipes. At this stage the only option is a transfer node with a world interaction upgrade on a crafting table which is a horribly janky setup but does work. You can make the exp buckets quickly using a gregtech lv tank. Using conveyors and item pipes will work. This should save you an unbelievable amount of time
The output of your mob farm is being highly curtailed by the pipe outputting exp from the vacuum hopper, you can fix that by using an lv pump (or two)to export the liquid exp
If you want to make a rudimentary sorting system for the mob farm use gregtech item pipes and locked JABBA barrels

Hey idk if this has already been suggested but it would be better to just allow the mobs to fall on the spikes, 3 spikes on the bottom would work fine. And I’m not sure if it’s possible given there’s no range indicator but normally those hoppers can take items through blocks so you can better shield it from explosions

possible efficiency gain if you havent yet. hoppers can go into chests sideways, and unless GTNH does something silly, you can put chests underneath other chests. using this you can stack the chests more neatly to take less horizontal space while providing more storage for mob drops before you have to empty them.

For management solutions at the mob farm, you might look at a Storage Draw Controller. If that is not available yet, or isn't in the pack (I don't remember) then you could run a line of hoppers and place a storage draw beneath each one. If you lock the drawers it should filter out the items into the drawers and then just put anything else in the chests connected to the end. It should reduce the amount of things you need to sort through.

Also if I remember ratio correctly and it's 200 steam/eu (/ efficiency) 768k steam tank is under 40k eu, which is about a third of a battery. And you can get more amps out if you have more than 1 battery (which means more machines can work in parallel)

you could've just gotten rid of the middle water source in your mob farm and the mobs would go into a single file line without the need for extra water or a drop

Hey Dan, I think that it would be a good idea to link to your main channel in the video description. I wanted to check it out but it took me a while to find it, it's hard to tell what exactly you're saying your name is in the intro lol.

Hey, wait… if the sides of the spike also do damage, couldn’t you just have one spike in the middle with two sources of water flowing into it? So instead of just one side of the spike doing damage its three? Changing the water flow is probably easy too, you would just need to have two sources in the corners, since they won’t make infinite sources in gtnh…
Just a possible optimization I thought about, probably hard to visualize though. Sorry if so

Nooo you didnt have to make a new pickaxe. If you put the old flint one in a tinker crafting table at full durability, and put the alumite pickaxe head in there, it would've upgraded the pickaxe.

  • @PlayfulPiano

Extruder isn't that useful in LV. MV is when you should get an extruder.
Also, advanced item collectors might be accessible for you right now, and they are a lot better than vacuum hoppers.
