Just, picked up this hobby. It's been a blessing. The warping, uneveness, the battle look, i guess would be the best description. Just adds character to each flag you make. Made several for combat veterans who loved it. It had some very personal symbolism to them. Missed anniversarys, missed birthdays, lost friends, lost family members much much more. Brings tears to my eyes. We take the best of this nation train them, equip them and send them to the worst parts of this world to do this countries fighting. My heart forever grateful, forever loyal. There's just no words to express my gratitude. Johnny Cash song raggid old flag says it all. God bless all Americans.
Jeff I want to thank you for your video's. I made a few of these for my fellow officers for Christmas. Since then I have had numerous people request them. I have made a couple for fallen officers and firefighters in my state. Thank you so much for what you have done to help me with these projects and keep up the amazing work!!
Great Video Jeff' it's nice to see a video that someone actually explains things to the average guy in the garage without covering it up with music. thank you
Thank you so much, I'm glad you liked the video and I hope it helps. Thank you for watching
if you have made a wooden American flag, you should enter the giveaway on my channel, the deadline to enter is June 29 at midnight. Here is the link to the video announcement with details.

I just wanted to say thank you. One of my oldest friends just graduated the police academy and I used your video as a guide to make him a police flag for his graduation gift.
I have been looking at things such as this for a while now in order to set myself apart. I came by your site by happenstance, and your video has really helped in me kicking my woodworking up a notch. I may be buying two of your star stencils soon. Thanks for posting the video!
c Chance thank you so much, I appreciate that
To you sir I say thank you for such an informative video.and much respect to you and how much time you have in these projects .i literally just finished my first flag and daaaaamnn !!!!!the stars about killed my patience and now I have early onset of arthritis and carpal syndrome.very labor intensive but worth it.thank you again sir👍😁
Jeff this is great, I agree that it's nice to see a video where someone explains everything in detail! That is a thing of beauty and I can't wait to make these for some of my Veteran family members who've served our great country.
Thank you for explaining everything you do in detailed, easy to follow directions, I love the flag and look forward to watching many more of your videos!
And....Thank you for choosing to serve and protect, I appreciate you!
Momma Tish XO thank you so much, I'm glad you like my videos and thank you for the kind words, I love my job and enjoy helping others. Thank you for watching
You can get a white stamp pad at Walmart in the craft section or under $2. Then when you put your template down just go over stamping the stars be carful and make sure you get the corners of the stars let it dry good before your remove it and keep it clamped on one side just in case you need to go back over a corner or 2. I love your technique and you made the instructions very clear to understand Thank you.
Why in the world would anyone give you a thumbs down? This great work. God Bless America! Thanks for sharing.
Your videos are so awesome and really explain everything to the average person. I’ve been sharing your videos with my husband since I’ve retired I started a bit of wood working and love the flags you’ve done. Thanks!!
Lilly Roberts thank you so much, I really appreciate that. I’m glad the videos have been helpful, good luck with your projects, I hope you enjoy woodworking as much as I do.
Thank you for a great tutorial. I teach high school shop and this will be an awesome fundraiser for the Future Farmers teacher I work with. Every year we donate things to the Community dinner auction they hold.
I have made some rustic pallet flags but I really like your technique also.. never thought about carving the stars out. Doing the stars were my biggest obsticle on my pallet flags
I found the stars are the hardest part too, I just finished making a rustic flag out of corrugated panel. Check out how I did the stars ua-cam.com/video/ol5C_O2sVmY/v-deo.html
Oddly relaxing to watch, I have all materials except my hubby doesn't have a torch, I love the flag, I'm gonna find a torch and do this for his 20 yr retirement which is approaching soon.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I have been wanting to make one for my son graduation from State Trooper school and two for my paramedic daughter's medical fundraiser (she has MS) which will be mostly fire/ems/police attendees. Thank you for showing me how to make these!
You're welcome, I hope the video is helpful. At what state is he going to be a Trooper?
Amazing, thanks for educating people like me that have Zero experience building/repairing. I'm eager to try to make one.🇺🇸
Steven Castelletti I'm glad you find my videos helpful, good luck with your project and feel free to add pictures of your project to the Inspiration Gallery on my website
Great job Jeff, your video is very easy to follow along. I've been making flags for awhile now and your way is much more simplified and your results are fantastic. I've been doing the raised stars for a 3D look and using different size wood for the Canton, but I recently worked on a coffee table design and couldn't use the raised stars for obvious reasons. A quick search found your video and I'm grateful (just ordered my Dremel Tool)! Shouldn't be a problem to finish now. Thanks!!
Excellent job Jeff. If you don't mind a suggestion to save time, I would lay the stencil in place and spray a light coat of white paint onto the stars, then use the dremel. Great video!
Darrell Burton thank you, good idea, I may try that. Thank you for watching
Been looking for one to hang outside on the deck. May give it a try myself 1st....because of your video. Great job explaining everything.
Thank you, glad you have found the video helpful. Good luck with the project
Jeff, you have taught me so much. Ive been building flags now for a couple of months. Thank you for your great videos!
Thank you so much for your video. Thank you as well for the continuing education videos as you and your contemporaries discovered new/better ways to build these flags. Your tips and tricks are greatly appreciated for beginning woodworkers/entrepeneurs like myself. I will be giving them a go in my area soon.
Awesome video! I just about finished my first one (blue line) and learned quite a bit. Namely, making my own stencil for the union was a pain! The second one will be a red line, both are Christmas gifts. That dremel dust blower is my next purchase for sure.
awesome tutorial. About to try making one with pallet wood and have been watching several videos. Yours is by far one of the easier ways and looks great. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, I really appreciate that. I tried finding some how to videos when I started making my first flag and I couldn't find one with details so I decided to make my own video. I'm glad you liked it, good luck with your project and thanks for watching
Jeff, thanks for the flag making inspiration and for sharing your knowledge. I appreciate it. I recently received your stencils and made a medium flag. Your dimensions worked perfectly. Keep up the great work!
Why would anyone give a Thumbs down????????? Solid info all around!
OUTSTANDING JEFF !! AN ARTIST AND A PATRIOT. BEAUTIFUL JOB. I WILL MAKE ONE ASAP IN HONOR AND THANX TO YOU.
Van Stiller thank you so much I appreciate that. Let me know how it goes and feel free to share your flag projects in the Inspiration Gallery on my website at www.thefurrminator.com
Awesome video, my son who is 10 and I made our first flag yesterday after watching your video and it turned out GREAT. You were right about the time consuming part with the stars, but it was well worth it in the end. Thanks again for sharing.
Finished with the first one. Very happy the way it turned out! Wanted to post pic here to show you but didn't know how to. Thanks for the tips!
Will do!
Jeff, I really appreciate your videos! They are easy to follow and you explain every detail. Thank you so much for the time you put into these videos!
Charlotte Ottilo thank you so much, I appreciate that and thank you for watching
Thanks for the tips, Jeff... You made my massive pallet flag a lot easier to do... Thanks
That's awesome, I like to hear that my ideas or video helped someone. Thank you for your comment and thanks for watching.

This is so awesome, I'm gonna stop my the lumber yard tomorrow and make one of my own! Thanks for sharing.
I can’t thank you enough for making this video! I’ve made several flags following your instructions for gifts!
I’m building these now and have referenced your channel a bunch of times. Thanks!!
Love your videos..They have taught me a lot...Ive made 3 of these now...Theyre just lacking stars...haha..I bought a Dremel with the flex shaft attachment to do them but I cannot, for the life of me, get them straight and even on there....
So I just went to your website last night and bought 2 different size stencils....Hopefully I get them soon...Thanks for all you do
Awesome video, so informative. Thanks to you, I was able to make my very own flag. I haven't made anything with wood since my shop class in high school.
John Lanata thank you, I'm glad my video was helpful. Thank you for watching
Awesome! Thank you for the tips! I’m a veteran and I want to do some of these.
Amazing brotha. Just got my dremel 4000. Can’t wait to make mine. 🤙🏼
Thank you, I appreciate that. Good luck with your flag, I think you’ll enjoy the Dremel. Thank you for watching
I would make a metal stencil for the stars and then maybe use a sand blaster, great video
Fantastic idea. Great video. Will defiantly use this technique. Thanks for the awesome tips.
Nice!! I'm going to start making some of these too. Couple of my friends heard I bought a table saw and made some requests.
DaysWithJ&M thank you, good luck with your projects, I'm sure you'll have more than a few requests as these things are pretty popular. Be sure to watch all of my flag making videos. Thank you for watching
thanks for posting. you've helped my research on building something like this. great job!
Kevin Leeper great, I'm glad the video has helped, thanks for watching
This is a great DIY video. I hadn't watched this one yet. This video answered a lot of questions I had as I ponder making my own flag. Very thorough, thanks Jeff.
Thank you Steve, I appreciate that. Good luck with your project if you decide to tackle it.
Mr Jeff Furr, This is Pure Awesome! I may give it a shot also!
Thank you very much, you should try it, it's a pretty easy project. Good luck with it, let me know how it goes. Thanks for watching
This is awesome! You are very talented with the torch!
M Booth thank you, I appreciate that
Great video Jeff! Thanks for explaining the details, especially how you do the stars.
not going to lie your Dremel skills are amazing! I tried one with the Dremel and it looked like a 2 year old hopped up on Mountain Dew did it
Haha, I understand, it can be a challenge. Do you have an extension or were you just using a Dremel without an extension?
Very cool!! I’m gonna start making my own flags now. 🇺🇸👍🏻
Glad you liked the video, good luck with your project, these flags are a fun, easy, rewarding project. Thanks for watching
Great job and the dremmel for the stars is great !
Hello Sir, can do a demonstration video about how to build a “concealment wall mounted wood flag” I think that would be pretty cool. I’ve researched other videos but you by far are the easiest one to follow and your videos are very well done. Thank yiu
Hi Jeff, You did a great job with the flag. Did you ever consider taking this one step further. Put a hollow back on it. So you can hide items inside. Like a hand gun or money other valuable items. Thanks for sharing. God Bless You.
Thank you very much. I have thought about that, actually I have had a couple friends of mine suggest that I make a flag with hidden compartments. I have seen a couple different versions of that but I just haven't tackled that yet. I will probably be making one of those at some point but I'm not sure when. Thank you so much for watching
I was thinking the same thing! Great idea!!
Awesome videos brother!! I'm Active Duty army I have already made a few for friends. Thanks for the video and tutorial!
Thank you so much and thank you for your service. I hope my videos have helped. After I made my first couple flags, it didn't take long for word to get out and I started making a lot for coworkers and friends. Thank you for watching
Wonderful Jeff. Great work, great video. Plan on making my own and using your video as my how to. Thanks and keep at it.
Thank you, I appreciate that. Check out the Rustic American Flag playlist on my channel for several other related videos, helpful hints and tricks. Good luck with your project and thank you for watching.
Great job man. I hope to tackle something like this when the weather
breaks
Ever consider just using spray paint over your stencil to quickly paint the stars (since you're going to dremel it off anyway? Might save some time. Either way, really impressive work!
Great video, very clear...love the specifics you give. I've been playing with different ways to make the flag with wood and I love playing with my torch so this is win-win! I am curious as to how much you sell these for? And have you ever tried reclaimed or pallet wood instead of good lumber? I am having a little difficulty with the uneven/not exact lines for attaching the stripes together and am hoping you might have a suggestion or two? Thanks for the great vid...I could hear you, no silly music or drowning of machines, tools and other people! I also really like your use of the blue & red lines, I'm gonna try to incorporate a gold star and a blue star for military mothers and grandmothers, have you already done this? If so, please share, I'd love to see it!
Thank you for the knowledge💜 And your work is stunning! Im so making my husband one 💜
Jeff, I love your flag design. My 10-year-old son and I are going to build this for his first wood project. I noticed you used staples, but I was wondering if brad nails would do the trick? Thank you for posting such detailed instructions!
Thank you, I'm glad you have found the video is helpful, I think that will be a great first project. I think the Brad nails will work if they are long enough to sink into the wood deep enough. One staple would be basically the same as two Brad nails. If you use wood glue like I do, once the glue dries, that will hold better than the Brad nails anyway. Good luck with the project, once your son has it completed I'd love to see a picture of it. Thank you for watching
Great job on the flag and the video! I'm going to give it a shot. Thanks again.
KARRIDOLL15 thank you, I appreciate that. Let me know how it goes. Thanks for watching

Bill D thank you, I'm glad you found it helpful. Thank you for watching
Love your flag Jeff, was telling a retired Veteran about it at my church today and did my best to show him on my phone. Well he doesnt have a computer and I am trying so hard to figure out how to show him this video. I know he needs the directions too but I am hoping as good as he is with wood he may just remember what he needs to to do the project, do you have any ideas? Always heard 2 heads are better than one. Thanks
Jeff do you use furring strip for most of your flags. Do you get more strip for the money my using furring strip or would you get more by using 1x12 and cutting down to size
Awesome product and tips along the way!
Thank you very much and thank you for watching
Spray the star template with a light layer of clear coat... save ya time. Great video.
I'll be trying that, great idea, thank you for sharing
That would be a cool cornhole template
DestinyFL ! I agree, I have seen a few different types of corn hole boards using the flag design, they look good
Have you ever painted one red, white, and blue, and then antiqued it with the torch? Just curious how the paint would hold up to the torch? Great project and thanks for sharing! Have a blessed Easter weekend.
I have one that I painted red white and blue. It was a test flag. I torched the wood before painting it and I didn't paint it too heavy so that allowed the dark color under the paint to show through a little. Looks ok but I was thinking about wiping it down with a little stain to antique it. I haven't tried torching the paint yet but it's worth a try, the flag was made to experiment anyway. I'll let you know how it works.
I saw a lady antique some painted stripes with gel stain and a dab of paint thinner. It really gave the project a nice affect, but she had no torched wood. Thanks for responding and sharing. Can't wait to try myself.
Awesome.... I'd like to see how you made the star template.
Great video. Great product. Thanks for all the tips and tricks
Try laying your pipe clamp over on to the strips (instead of straight up) it will help stop the buckling.
Great work man! Definitely giving this a shot this weekend.
Awesome flag, looks like a good Christmas present idea! What are the dimensions of your stars?
Zachary Geib the stars on the 19.5 x 37 flag are 1.1" each
Nice work on the flag, and great video.
Nate Dozier thank you and thanks for watching
Great walk through, awesome job and love the look!

+Barry Evers thank you so much, I appreciate that
Great job.I love your passion.
Have you ever made one with a hidden compartment? I would like to see one made like that also
Not yet, I have had that suggested several times but I haven't had time to take that on yet.
Hey Jeff, just checked out this video and i love the projects! As a fire fighter and having police office friends and family i am looking to make a few of these for gifts. I am wondering where i am able to get the stencils for both size flags you mention. the 13"x24" and the 19" 1/2 x 37". Thanks in advance for the help and keep up the great work!
Hi Jeff thanks 4 sharing ur video these flags r awesome..just have 1 ? what would b a good asking price 4 these plz..and thanks again......
That’s going to vary from state to state, I hear lots of different people charging different prices. I charge $125.00 for the standard medium and $140 to $160 for a medium with additional carving.
How do I get one of these? Should have done some videos together when you came up. I am sorry you got stuck with Louis but we sent our A game to the show. HAHA

Home Depot sells the furring strips in the width you need. No ripping.
Thank you, I have since found those and that's what I use, saves a lot of time. I wish I would have known about those a lot sooner. Thank you for watching
Awesome video, I think I'm going to make one myself!
Thank you, good luck with your projects and thank you for watching
The Furrminator made one yesterday and it turned out great! Thanks for going into detail in your video!
Fantastic video, I just finished making my first flag for my wife’s office. I’m very impressed with your template for setting the stars. Is that something you had made or commercially bought?
Love the flag! You have made me want to create my own! Do you use 1x3 furring strips?
Thanks, keep up the awesome content!
KnK Creations thank you, I do use 1x3 sometimes and rip them to the correct width. Sometimes I purchase them ready to use at 1.5" wide.
Have you ever used spar varnish on the flags? Would that work do you think? Just curious......your flags are amazing and have given me inspiration to try one myself. Great job and thank you!
Wonderful work!
