Excellent video guys, just got into seriously targeting Pike on the fly this year as it's been such a bad spring/summer for trout on UK reservoirs Pike are such a willing hot summer quarry and I found your video very helpful. Thank you👍😁

Informative video re Pike on the Fly, especially for a newcomer to using this method.
Enough said by others re use of the Pike Gag.
Like the use of the ‘pop up’ laundry basket as a line tray! Lol
Thank you for an enjoyable session on the fly.

I wish the USA sold vision fly rods, especially the pike rods! Love there vids and content and there gear looks badass. The design an color on any product they make is really well thought out. I wish the, the best and hope a USA supplier picks them up!

A class 456 rod is good for pike and perch? I use it only for chub and trout but i want to try for bigger fish... Idk if my rod can do it..

Great video guys. Thank you for taking the time to put t together. My only negative comment would be regarding the jaw spreaders. In the UK they're very much fround upon. I know your ones are as fish-friendly as you can make them, but in inexperienced hands they can be very damaging, so I'd rather you hadn't shown them in the film. Other than that I really enjoyed it and would love to see more pike videos from the pair of you👍🏻🇬🇧🇫🇮

Thanks for the comments. This is something that we discussed and decided to show the use of these. We feel that smaller pike especially are faster to release when these are used correctly.

I think it might be more of a British thing as all out waters are so pressured that we are, perhaps, over cautious these days.
Actually, have a look on Facebook for 2 Pike In a Pond. Go to the photo albums and find episode 15: Of Pike And Men.
This is my cartoon page and you might get a laugh or two, especially with that episode:-)

The problem is not about the use witch is excellent but the item! It can dislocate the junction between the lower and upper jaw (the quadrate bone attached to the articular). In the best case you only wound the cartilaginous part (hyperextension) but in the worst case you can dislocate the articulation all. The risk is the create a wound that could be a real life risk for the fish. Than I think it is better to ban it (like the jaw grip). Except this your video is excellent.@@Visionflyfishing

@@limoucheu8522 Thanks for the comments to all of you. With most of the pike fishermen practicing c&r nowadays, this is an important subject. Speedy release of the fish with minimal impact to the fish is crucial. Let'em go and let'em grow! ✌

Great video guys. I am about to embark on a little pike fishing trip myself, although there will be other species available as well. I've fished my whole life and I am on the other side of the rainbow. I thought I'd learn to fly fish this year, so I purchased a new fly rod ,reel flies, etc. I had some fun learning to cast it and actually caught a few fish in the process. I have a 5 weight combo and liked it so much, I decided on a 7/8 reel with two rods one of each, because I noticed that 5 weight just didn't seem enough rod to bring in those bigger fish, which I am certain to come across. I know pike fishing pretty good, but have never fly fished for them. I learned quite a bit from watching this video and thank you for the lesson. You fellas must be very smart to speak English so well, being from Finland and English probably a second or third for you. Best Regards

This is the best video I've seen on fly fishing for pike. Thank you for sharing a great amount of knowledge and information on equipment, casting, locating fish. I can't wait to try some your ideas this spring in Vermont. You guys are the best and thank you for not just showing pictures of nice fish. My brother gave me this quote from the late great fly fisherman, Lefty Kreh "Don't show your knowledge share it."

A really well thought out video guide to fly fishing for the Rock n Roll fish we know and love Mr Pike. I fish UK canals and the only tips I can give is you need two lines at most an intermediate for 90% and a floater for poppers etc. If you have never cast a fly seriously consider one lesson from a casting instructor with your gear it is worth it.

Awesome tips! I just picked up fly fishing after a couple of years of spinfishing and have been longing to understand the double haul. Especially with pike flies it seems very much needed to get it out some distance. The fishing you do in the video is pretty much shallow water, any tips on deeper water? Except the change of a line to a sinker? Keep up these kinds of videos, loving them.

    • @rsantos627
      @rsantos627 5 років тому

On my 9wt which I have outfitted for pike I have 30' shooting heads on a floating line, an intermediate line and an intermediate with fast sink 7"/second 30' shooting head. If it's deeper than 30' I don't bother using a fly rod. I'll use spin or baitcaster. When using the fast sink shooting head I like to anchor on the shoreside of a deep drop off, ideally where weed beds end, and cast over the drop off and then retrieve. To mimic a baitfish fleeing from deep water to the shelter of the weed beds in the shallower water. Intermediate line I use the most. It sinks under the surface so it doesn't get tossed around as much by wind. If I am using floating flies and calm wind I'll use the floating line. But I do like the intermediate line with floating flies such as poppers because when I strip line the fly will get pulled under the water and then pop up to the surface. Mimics a frog swimming under the surface and then surfacing, etc

Hienoa että perhokalastus firmat tekee tälläisiä informatiivisiä videoita ja tekevät hienon lajin aloittamisen noviiseille helpoksi, olispa näitä ollut 20 vuotta sitten tarjolla kun itse aloitin harrastuksen, olis ehkä jäänyt muutama kompastuskivi matkalla kokematta. 😊

What determines your leader size with regards to the size of your fly? Do you choose the leader based upon hook size, or the weight of the fly when wet. Do you choose the same diameter tippet whether it be wire, mono or fluorocarbon? Thank you for any assistance that you may be able to offer me. Great video's, thank you.

They dont harm the fish, and they help unhook it quicker and more efficiently.
