  • Michael Kennedy, who works at a non-profit energy company, explains a novel approach to financing renewable energy that does not benefit only the rich. This new approach fairly distributes the profits derived from renewable energy infrastructure. Michael Kennedy graduated from Milton Academy in 2001 before going on to study at Stanford and Georgetown. He then worked as a consultant focused on government strategy and international economic development and finance. He is now Vice President of Business Development at the Non-Profit Citizens Energy Corporation, a firm which focuses on lowering energy costs for consumers while using the cleanest energy possible. Mr. Kennedy will give his talk titled: “A New Way to Finance Renewable Energy” This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. No doubt a great initiative. However, the problem is not only within that community that the tline might affect it, but neighboring communities as well (non stakeholders imo)
Also, how is this method of financing going to spread to the global south, which is what the presentation was positioning itself as? Not sure it would apply.

Is it possible to have the same investment that was given to the tribal government also go to residents of Imperial Valley? If I am hearing correctly, $500 a year compared to millions that the tribal government received should be equaled out in my opinion. This is a great solution, but I am hoping that the profit makes sense for individuals and families in addition to organizations who will benefit greatly from.
