- A look back at 1993, around Old Tiger Stadium, and comparing the same places to how they look now. I-75 Service Drive, Trumbull Ave. and The Corner. Sound is Ernie Harwell reciting the "Voice of the Turtle" on Opening Day of Spring Training, a ritual that lasted many decades!

One of the best things about UA-cam: If you ever want to take a trip to yesteryear via days gone by, listen tp Ernoe Harwell and revisit Tigers Stadium you can. Just look up some old meaningless game, surely thought never to see the light of day again and take in the nostalgia.
Time marches on and things change. To say I miss Tiger Stadium would be an understatement. Fenway Park is a living testament of what we could have done with Tiger Stadium so we could still be watching games at the Corner. That didn't happen and the Tigers were moved from their historic home. Once the Tiger organization vacated I understood there would be demolition to some degree, but certainly didn't feel the entire structure needed to go. The most historic portion (Navin Field) could have easily been incorporated into what they have there today. But sadly, that was demolished. Then there was hope of keeping the original (grass and dirt) baseball diamond, but alas we lost that when the current resident favored an artificial/plastic grass field. So something we once wore like a badge of Honor (historic Tiger Stadium) was treated like the Coronavirus itself.... it was shunned and wiped away. Now it's as if it never existed.... except in our memories. So very sad. The only thing remaining of the original place is the flagpole.... And it wouldn't surprise me if they knocked that down some day. :(
I'll never forgive the city for what they did/how they treated those that renovated the old field so beautifully for nothing I would add, when they woulda let it rot (and still would have IMO to this very day if they hadn't been shown up by these folks for how lazy as shit they were). It is so wrong on so many levels. There may be a ballpark there now, and games may still be played, but it's not at all the same as it could have and should have been.
Just memories of days..bye, bye, bye..........GONE Tiger stadium, you are missed 😢
I forgot that our beloved Rick Rizzs worked with the Tigers prior to his long tenure here in Seattle. That said, I was lucky enough to fly out Seattle > Detroit with my dad to the Tigers' third-to-last game at the old Tiger Stadium on September 25, 1999. The stadium was old, smelly, and exactly as I wanted it; historic, proud, and with all the old-school charm that I expected! I could have watched a triple-header on that warm, comfortable newly autumn day. I'll never forget it. To this day, I have four photos of myself and Dad framed around an issue of Sports Illustrated commemorating that iconic stadium's final season. The wood-framed presentation still hangs in my apartment all these years later. Detroit and the Tigers will always hold a special place in this Mariners fan's heart for that picture-perfect weekend.
Driving in, first you saw the light towers then that beautiful white facade. Loved that place!
Sad to see old ballparks gone forever 😢😢my father grew up in detroit and loved tiger stadium 🏟 as kid growing up in detroit
Tiger Stadium, The Palace, Cobo Arena, JLA and the Silverdome. Watched so many events at all of these places. Haven’t been back to Michigan in years and glad I haven’t. Would hate to see a game at one of these cookie cutter places today.
This video is a nice homage to Tiger Stadium. I'm a Chicago White Sox fan, but I can relate to the emotions longtime Tiger fans have for their lost classic ballpark. Two years before 1993, our classic ballpark, Comiskey Park, had fallen to the wrecking ball. Incidentally, that year was one of the last the Sox would train in Florida. In 1997, they moved their spring training site to Arizona.
I thought they put a new ballpark in the same spot called corner park or something
Thanks and yes! We have covered the area extensively since 2013, and we invite you to check out our recent videos and Playlists for the whole story.
1993.. the year I left the area. It will never be the same.
Wow! big difference
Comerica feels like just another corporate ballpark where tiger stadium had character n this is someone who was born in 1990
It's atleast good for those who prefer the more classical architecture over the more modernist.
That is all we have anywhere....corporate bs!
They were selling the bricks, grass, and bleachers. I wanted one.
Does anyone recall a building across the street from the stadium that had detroit tigers hats or helmets around the top of the building ? It was either a bar or a souvenir shop
Thanks, but across what street? Michigan, Trumbull, or Cochran?
@@FrankaiVideos-DetroitsComeback I believe it was on michigan, somewhere between Trumbull and rosa parks
Sportsland USA was staple on Michigan Ave. Went out of business shortly after the team moved.
Couldn’t they have renovated Tiger Stadium ?
Too old and worn out, plus it was Detroit, the whole city fell apart for quite a while.
Yes, the city could have renovated Tiger Stadium. Mike Illich wanted a stadium on his own land and the corrupt Detroit city government let it happen. I grew up in Detroit in the 60s and 70s and have lots of memories of games (including the Lions!) and what they did with the land is just a slap in the face. They didn't even have to save the whole stadium but chose to tear it down completely.
Time machine look how Detroit has changed
Damn shame
AMEN.
@John Sabp What buildings won't be occupied? According to Robertson Homes' website, all of the town homes are sold.
Is it still standing?
No, torn down years ago and now a new building housed by the Police Athletic League is in its' place.
Love the Harwell broadcast added in! Mike Moore was fucking garbage tho!!!
So were most the pitchers we had in those years lol.
The condos don’t even look good. Yikes 😬
Looks worse. Tearing down the soul of a city is a good way to destroy a city.
oh for f sakes
