May Allah swt bless Alama Ehsaan Illahi Zaheer ra with Jannah. He was one of the greatest scholers of Last century. He was one of the first Scholers who started refuting Shiaism and gave Khutabaas and wrote many books on it. I really miss him very much.

Very easy to refute the Shia belief.
The main standing of the Shia is ghadir khum where they claim that the Prophet S.A.W made Ali R.A his successor.
Who has more authority on if this is true?
Shia or Ali R.A.
Firstly we must establish that Ali R.A was brave, courages, and even called Asad Allah or the Lion of Allah.
So if Ali R.A believed that he was chosen either by the Prophet S.A.W or by Allah Subhanahu wa ta’la in the Quran, then Ali R.A would have rebelled against Abu Bakr R.A because if he was chosen then Abu Bakr R.A disobeyed the Prophet S.A.W and Allah Subhanahu wa ta’la . This would amount to kufr.
No kafir can be the rulers of the Muslims. No kafir can lead the prayer. Yet Abu Bakr R.A led Ali R.A in prayer and in the khilafah. So if Ali R.A thought he should be the ruler ordained by the prophet S.A.W or Allah Subhanahu wa ta’la then he should have rebelled against Abu Bakr R.A.
Wallahi if anyone truly knows Ali R.A they would know even if the whole world was against him as long as Allah Subhanahu wa ta’la was with him he would fight the world. So there is no issue in fear or cowardice.
This shows us that Ali R.A didn’t think he was chosen by the prophet S.A.W or Allah Subhanahu wa ta’la to be the successor.
Nahar H just think Logically how can Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) leave this earth without appointing a successor why would he make the Muslim Ummah go lost so obviously Ali (AS) was chosen as a successor on the event of (Ghadir Khumm) by the Prophet (PBUH)
Your logic is flawed. You said “if Abu bakr goes against the prophet then he a kafr. And if he is a kafr then he cannot become khalifa” - > this is the whole point of Shia. They believe abu bakr was a munafiq and shouldn’t have been the khalifa at all. So they believe he DID go against the prophet therefore he CANNOT be the khalifa.
Your only defence is “he wasn’t a kafir” but that is your narrative
So you are wrong, it’s not easy to refute Shia at all

May Allah swt guide him to islam. I've met a few shias who became muslim after studying the ahadith and tafsir. I was told that in their circles, often if you abandon shiism, it has to be done quietly, or it could have some serious consequences.

I think he is referring to the Shia interpretation rather than any unambiguous hadith.

I know for a fact the guy who was asking these questions was not a Shi'a. When referring to the members of the Ahlul Bayt, the guy would say "raziallaho anh". Shi'as do not say raziallaho anh when referring to the Ahlul Bayt. Shi'as say "'Alayhis-salam"

« So here is the issue that needs to be clarified:Many people use the abbreviation “SAW,” “SAWS,” or “PBUH” to fulfill this obligation in their writing. Is this something that fulfills the obligation of sending the salaah and salaam on the Messenger? Let us look now to some of the statements of the scholars regarding this practice.
The Permanent Committee of Scholars in Saudi Arabia headed by ‘Abdul-‘Azeez ibn ‘Abdillaah ibn Baaz issued the following verdict when asked about the validity of abbreviating the salaah on the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam): “The Sunnah is to write the entire phrase “sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam,” since it is a kind of supplication, and supplication is worship, (in one’s writing) just as it is in one’s speech. So to abbreviate it using the letter SAAD or the word SAAD-LAAM-‘AYN-MEEM is not a supplication nor is it worship, whether it occurs in speech or writing. For this reason, this abbreviation was not used by the the first three generations, those that the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam) testified to their goodness.” [8]
“SAAD” and “SAAD-LAAM-‘AYN-MEEM” are often used in some Arabic books. The English equivalents of these abbreviations would be: SAW, SAWS, SAAWS, PBUH, and the likes.
Al-Fayrooz-Abaadee said, “It is not appropriate to use symbols or abbreviations to refer to salaah and salaam, as some of the lazy ones do, as well as some ignorant people and even some students of knowledge - they write ‘SAAD-LAAM-‘AYN-MEEM’ instead of writing ‘sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam.'” [9]
Ahmad Shaakir said, “It is the absurd tradition of some of the later generations that they abbreviate the writing of ‘sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam.'” [10]
Wasee Allaah ‘Abbaas said, “It is not permissible to abbreviate the salaams in general in one’s writing, just as it is not permissible to abbreviate the salaah and salaam on the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam). It is also not permissible to abbreviate either of these in one’s speech.” [11]
And Allaah knows best. May the most perfect and complete salaah and salaam be upon our beloved Messenger, and upon his noble family and companions.»
