I am loving this series and taking lots of notes. I am looking forward to setting up and actually using my VX-6 after 10 yrs. Thank You!! My next mission will be renewing my General license before it expires. I started looking into it and it looks more complicated than I expected. Thanks again. You are an excellent instructor. I wish I had you back in calculus class many years ago lol.
Scott.... Your right the manual does look a little complex and intimidating, it's really not near as bad as you imagine. I am a visual learner and your videos are great for us "visual learners" , the video really explains s things well. Thanks for the videos, I really appreciate you doing this series of videos! ... 73... KY4ROD (ROD)
Excellent. I have a bag of popcorn (and fully charged VX-6) ready for your next video . Please keep this series going and walk us through ALLLLLL the settings/menu options. 73's my friend.
@mrRoverkane l am still trying to figure it out and l still have not heard anyone transmitting. I do not have a license so l can't transmit either. I also just ordered the Diamond SHR 320A antenna. I am going to be spending this weekend programming it.
Scott. I want to praise you for these easy to follow videos. I watch quite a few videos on amateur radio, and yours are the best. Please keep them coming. Rob. KE6EJY
Love the videos, but a lot of times you seem to rush through things, like when you mention the "have to be ready to set the memory channel"... could you one time let it time out and show it setting? And you rushed right through the tone squelch settings. I've had my license for two years and have yet to make a contract. I just upgraded to the vx 6r and am trying to follow, but have to keep rewinding to try and follow your quick scroll and button push. I've been digging the videos and have been binging them. Keep up the great work.
Good day and thank you very much for this great series. Was wondering if you (or any one) might be able to explain all the different types of tones. Trying to find resources but so far no luck. Thanks in advance
with this radio series, you made me really want this radio. in Part 1 I think it was, you mentioned that you keep multiple files for this radio on your computer I hope you show us how that is done in one of these parts and how you swap between files
I had one of these years ago and I sold it. This series made me get one again. No regrets and I’m not going to sell this one. Great solid easy to use HT.
Great video @KS6DAY! Do you happen to have video of how to "Tone Search Scanning" page 31 in the VX-6 manual. I can do this fairly easily on my other radios... the VX-6 is a bit different.
Hi, I recently purchased a VX-6 ARS is not working, I tun it on but it doesn't set the - or +. Also I noticed that the band for the 2m ham is number 7 instead of 6 as the manual shows and your HT shows on the screen when in VFO.
Digging a little more I just found that it might not be the American version, perhaps the Japanese one because also the Special memory channels are different, I don't have the Marine nor the Wx CH, I have: TV CH, JR CH, RADIO, UHF CB, WLM AB and WLM C.
Scott, I'm trying to get the CAL POLY (SLO) repeater entered - they list tones as 91.5 (in) and 127.3 (out). How would that get entered in? As it is, I can hear their repeater but they cannot hear me.
Total noob here and this might be a silly question to some. I have a list of repeaters in my local area, one of which the frequency is 145.662500. I have the exact same VX-6 radio but I seem to be unable to enter the frequency. When I try, I enter 145.66 and then it won't allow me to enter 2500... What am I doing wrong. I have set the offset and uplink tone but can't get the frequency entered. What am I doing wrong?
I have the same problem. And so does everyone who has a VX-6. Surprised that you can mix CTCSS and DCS tones, page 32, but not 2 different CTCSS tones.
adding a GMRS repeater/net frequency would not add a "+" right unless you performed a Mars Mod? Mine is showing no "+" and errors when hitting ptt... need to go watch the Mars Mod on VX-6 I think. I've received my GMRS license.
Automatic Repeater Shift only applies offset to frequencies associated with HAM repeaters. It won't apply any kind of offset to a GMRS repeater frequency. That will need to be done manually. That video is going to follow the MARS Mod video. Which is coming soon. But I've been down with the plague since last Saturday. Should be up to it in a day or two.
Excellent series. You make it look much more simple than the manual. Keep going in the series, please. Thank you.
Exactly what I was about to say.
This radio is super easy to program from the radio

I just ordered my radio, it should be here tomorrow and l am very excited!!
I am trying to stay ahead by watching your videos before my radio arrives.
Enjoying it? What did you have prior?

These are very helpful. Very well done. Thank you

Super good job on the setup! Even I understand it.
I just used the software but this helps showing how to add or change without a computer. Thanks.
Thanks for the demo
Success! 🍻

You can slow down playback or re-watch the video if you dont get it.

@@JPA66 last year I was planning on getting the FT-60 but now after seeing these reviews, the VX-6 is a better choice for me.

Is there a mod for the vx6 to transmit on cb channels? because I can listen to them
My vx6r does not automatically apply the offset on the 2 meter band, 440 yes, not two meters… what can be the problem…
Would this be a good first radio?

Hey! In memory mode, if I scroll through my channels, how can I tell what frequency it is, if I’ve given it a name and forget what that frequency is?
Press the MONI button (Monitor Button) on the side by the Push to Talk Button
My repeater has 2 different ctcss tones on both the input and output. How do I apply the 2 different tones
Anyone?
I have the same problem. And so does everyone who has a VX-6. Surprised that you can mix CTCSS and DCS tones, page 32, but not 2 different CTCSS tones.
I meant to write DCS codes...
