India industrial output is only for their own consumption, protected by heavy duties on imported goods.
India industrial output as a percentage of global output （～3%）has not really changed since 2018 in spite of Modi‘s “Make in India” initiatives in the last ten years. Besides its numerous domestic problems, India has to compete with other developing countries like Vietnam, Mexico to build export driven manufacturing base against increasing protectionism in the West.
India's inefficient industry is protected by some of the highest tariffs in the world. In terms of trade, India is very uncompetitive. Exports less than tiny Netherlands.

No unfortunately. China lucked out with cheap labor when it was valuable, now with automation and robots, having a lot of hands is useless. Also China doesn’t have the Caste, religious and language problems India is plagued with.

China constructed an 26-storey apartment building in Hunan in 5 Days flat using prefab. Something that will take a couple of years and 2,000 workers in a primitive country like India. Infrastructure is less labor intensive than ever. India is a primitive country with very high tariffs protecting local industries. Thats why India will never be competitive in exports.

First of all China cannot be rival because it's industrial secret is the entire ecosystem of an entire supply chain of things and an abundance of skilled labor created by the Chinese government during the Mao era when the country industrialized back in the 1950s 1960s and 1970s before it opened to the world..
As a result if you want to build any machine in China all the equipment, tools, materials, skill labor knowhow needed to manufacture the machine from raw materials to final product is right there.
India doesn't have that
In China everything is in just one place. The infrastructure is 100 years ahead of India.
The government gets things fine much easier.
Moreover, 35% of all Companies in China are state owned.
Some of these companies are some of the biggest companies in the world.
And they are highly profitable and they are worth gazillions of dollars. At times of crisis the Chinese state tells them to manufacture things to stimulate the Chinese industrial economy and this passes along to the private sector.
India doesn't have that.
India has lots of people, but that population doesn't have the trades skills knowhow that China has.
They are more focused on either farming, commerce or services.
India does not have the industrial ecosystem that China has.
To build that ecosystem takes decades, not years. Try doing that in a country with a 5 year election cycle.
Furthermore, when it comes to money and investing in India the country is like that song from the Eagles, "Hotel California."

You can never take your money out of the country after you bring it in.

Have you ever heard the term "military alliance"? The EU are not military allied to China nor India. So, in case of a war between the two, the EU won't join any of them. Almost all of the EU countries are military allied to the US. It is a defensive alliance, which means if China attacks the US, European countries will side with the US. In case of the US attacking, EU will remain neutral. If you want military allies for India in case of a war (I assume you are from India), then you have to form military alliances. I personally think many countries are open to ally with India, but you actually have to form the alliance, and not just talk about it.

What perplexing is why many Indians easily assume that high GDP growth is sustainable for decades to come, while the critical factors India must have to transform into a developed country are basically nonexistence.
And if you look at our world history, there had never been a democratic developing country that had successfully transformed into a developed one. Actually all current developed countries were once either authoritarian or dictatorship, and they became democratic only after being developed.
So being democratic might not be the right path for developing countries. In fact, democracy in developing countries had spurred corruption big time - a vicious trap which even further hindered the path.
In the 1980s, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Philippine and Indonesia were "not-so-democratic" states. The first 4 succeeded and widely renowned as the "Asian Tigers". But Philippine and Indonesia, once ruled by very strong long-serving dictators, had failed. Why? Because both were just too corrupt. Park Chung Hee (South Korea) was also a strong dictator that ruled for 17 years, but he was way more clean compared to Marcos (Philippine) or Soeharto (Indonesia). Park Chung Hee was well regarded as the one who propelled South Korea into a developed country.
So being "non-democratic but clean" for developing countries had a path in world history.
Now look at India - a developing, a democracy and a very corrupt country. If India can truly transform into a developed country by 2047 as promised by Modi (Viksit Bharat 2047) - then India will be recognized as the first ever developing country that creates a new path in world history.
India has no chance. India is somewhat like a self-made entrepreneur who started a company and is optimistic about a highly potential project. He has no money and not enough capability, but he is full of confidence, believing that this project will become a trillion-dollar market in the future. Therefore, he thinks his business will achieve long-term, high-speed growth. People like this are very common in life; I believe we have all encountered them, and they almost never succeed.

India and China have their own distinct characteristics and approaches, which often lead to comparisons and competition between the two nations. However, it is important to note that their competition is not solely driven by media narratives.
With other world Democracies decoupling from China, India has a chance to become the next manufacturing hub BUT it better work quickly to solve those problems because Vietnam, Philippines and Malaysia are already working hard to attract business.
If Modi wants to rival China, first he should learn something from the successful story of China. When China started to economic-centric strategy 4 deacades ago, China tried to make good political relationship and hence good economial relationship with every country. No matter it was USA or Soviet Union, no matter it was east Europe/west Eurrope or developing country.
