I’m just curious why he didn’t use the shield charge. If I remember correctly, there’s a CB move that uses it up and is more powerful than the finishing move on the phial axe combo

the main reason why he wouldn't use his shield charge in this situation is because losing the shield charge = less defensive ability.

TDWL2 in this game if you ultra burst you lose the red shield effect, which means not only do you block less effectively, you also do 20% less damage in axe mode, it’s a very powerful attack still so he uses it at the end when he won’t need his red shield anymore

It's pretty much just to cancel out the item usage animation to shave small amounts of time off. Like after he eats a might seed for example, the hunter would normally flex afterwards locked in animation, the felvine bombs force you out of that animation.
Edit: They also cause no damage, as opposed to other barrel bombs, and when you get sent flying you have some i-frames as well.

It also lasts about the same amount of time as a might seed. so once the felvine icon goes away from your name you will know to pop another seed. Use a small bomb to cancel potions or demon drugs/dash juice animation, and felvine bomb to cancel might seed animation.
