The Story of Utsman bin Affan: Generous Caliph, Owner of Two Lights to Martyr
Uthman bin Affan was one of the companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ who was famous for his shy, generous, and gentle nature. He was included in the Asyrah Mubasyarah group, namely ten companions who were guaranteed entry into heaven by the Prophet ﷺ.
Uthman had the honor of marrying the Prophet ﷺ's daughter, Ruqayyah. After Ruqayyah died during the Battle of Badr, the Prophet ﷺ married her to his second daughter, Umm Kulthum. Because he married two of the Prophet's daughters, Utsman was nicknamed Dzun Nurain (Owner of Two Lights).
At the end of his reign, slander arose which led to a rebellion against him. The dissatisfied group began to spread accusations that Utsman only appointed the Umayyad family in government, although many of the accusations were baseless.
The rebellion finally peaked when his house was surrounded by rebels. Although many companions wanted to defend him, Utsman refused bloodshed. He continued to read the Qur'an until he was finally killed in his house on Friday, 18 Dzulhijjah 35 H.
