    It's funny, when I started my board game journey a few years ago I would have watched this video and thought it looked far to difficult a game and looks drab, yet here I am years later watching this really wanting the game and loving the beige 😂

    You, sir, are a blessing! I always hear that Orléan is a fantastic game but I would always lose track in reviews and explanations what the game really is all about. There are dozens of channels who present and explain games, some of them taking their sweet sweet time but you always manage to deliver a coherent and comprehensible overview in a very reasonable time! I always enjoy watching your content and I hope I can count on future How To Play's from you!
    Needless to say I added Orléans on my wishlist because the game looks amazing!

    At 17:00 what's the difference between leaving a piece on the board and leaving it in your market?

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  8 років тому +4

      If it's in your market, you can freely assign it to a space (as long as it could go there). When it's already on a space on your board, you can't just reassign it to another space - it has to stay there (unless you use the option, as detailed at 17:00 to reclaim a piece from your board to your market, by drawing fewer tokens).

      Unfortunately there are different printings of the rule book, and this instruction was given differently in the different printings - so it's right, or wrong, depending on which rule book you have. I'm not sure if they ever finally gave an official ruling on it.

      @@WatchItPlayed Which is exactly why 'house rules' shouldn't be frowned apon. I can list of the top of my head over a dozen games whose rules have changed one way or another - and sometimes back again - whilst introducing new rules.
      But you still get the die hards saying 'but not in the rules'
      Root is the prime example of this - everyone 'knew' that changes had to be made as soon as it came out.. as it stands they've change the 'rules' over 1st, 2nd, 3rd... 99th printing. Leder even has an errata page on their website for those who constrain themselves to the 'official rules' they received when they bought the game.
      Whatever makes the game sensible, fun, and competitive for *you* and your gaming group is what matters.

    Are you allowed to do the same action twice?

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  8 років тому

      I'm not sure exactly what you mean. You can take an action once you have it's followers filled in - but then you remove them - so you can't take that action again until it's refilled again (the one exception is the Town Hall, where you can remove 1 of the followers at a time to take the action).

    Hey Rodney! Thanks for the video. Just a quick question - can I take a couple of actions at the same time (if I have a full Farm House and a ship action) or I have to do one action per round? Thanks in advance!

    • @WatchItPlayed

      Hey Kirill, it's been long enough since I shot this, that I'm a little unsure myself. You can perform only one action per turn, but I don't recall what particular abilities there might be that could modify that rule.

    Great video Rodney! Really enjoying this game but finding the negative/punishing event tiles too easy and usually don't create much of an issue. Have you found this during your plays? I know the designer posted revised rules for the event tiles that reduces the randomness but have yet to try that variant.

      I played this at least ten times and yes the events are not that difficult, but i still enjoy the game for the other elements

      +George “Crazy Spaniard” Morgan I tend to avoid commenting on my personal play experience, as I think a lot of that is going to come down to how a person interprets what is "too easy". That said, when we played, we did tend to play with the events in mind, to ensure we were mostly prepared for their effects. Losing a monk during a plague certainly hurts though :)

    • @WatchItPlayed

      This is difficult to answer as I shot this long enough ago that I don't remember what I said in the video, and I don't know if they changed something in the rule book (or if the rule book is wrong, which sometimes happens - making the video the more correct version). I did work with the publisher on this though, I can say that :)
