Probably the most underrated subclass in the game for me. When I ask people why they don't play it it's usually something like "oh, I don't want to have to up my intel also."
It's completely unrequired! There's plenty of spells in the EKs arsenal that don't have an attack roll, there for intel isn't mandatory. Longstrider, blade ward, arcane lock, shield, sleep, grease, etc.
Honestly, with weapon bond on a javelin and a dedicated throwing set up (ring of throwing, tavern brawler, etc!) this can become one of the strongest, if not the strongest, consistent ranged damage dealers.

Considering the best ranged weapons in the game already come back to you, Bezerker Barbarian with theif subclass is way better at using thrown weapons.

The problem with EK is that sword bard does what they do better. Sword bard have acces to higher level spell and kind of fight better than EK because the flourishes are very strong, shove/+4 AC/Multi-target attack.

    • @kellymccarthy7109
      @kellymccarthy7109 10 місяців тому +3

@@jasonlu9562 I don't think that's a fair comparison, they fill a different role. It's like saying cleric is better than paladin because they get more spell slots. Eldritch Knight still has three resourceless attacks per action as a fighter and better resting AC than a bard. As well as more health and more profs for flexibility (such as heavy armour or greatswords), as well as prof in con which is very good for casters. Its flourishes are strong but they're limited like spells are. Once that resource is expended elder knight will easily outshine them. They're not meant to be great casters, that's what caster classes are for. They're fighters with a touch of magic to compliment their strengths. Shield to add ontop their already staggeringly high resting AC, blur to make them near impossible to hit, arcane lock to manipulate rooms to your favour, longstriders for +3 movement for the whole team, etc.

Just curious, with the replace spell on level up, could you replace one of your restricted spells with a spell from any school of magic? Or is it limited to the restricted spells?

The only good thing about the eldritch kinigh is bound weapon , and maybe as a weapon trower it could be good .
Do you need only strenght for attack roll and dmg with trow weapons ?

I really really want to like this game but I played both DoS2 and pillars of eternity and could never get myself out of chapter 1 so am hesitant to buy this one. It's just so weird. They looked like they had everything I would ever want in a game yet I couldnt enjoy them. Even now I look back on the other 2 and think man I really want to play them and yet I know once I load them up I wont want to anymore.

Pretty disappointing that War Magic doesn't give you a full attack action, this way casting spells in combat is extremely situational for EK's. To make it worthwhile EK's cantrips will have to scale way harder (like once per 3 instead of once per 5 levels) and their spell slots need to receive the Warlock treatment. Maybe even buff War Magic to activating when you cast a spell with a spell slot as well. Hmm, maybe I'll try to write a mod for it if I want to play an EK, especially the additional cantrip upscaling doesn't seem too hard to implement (unless Larian has somehow hardcapped cantrip scaling to be only possible twice in their code).

Eldritch blast scales on total character level and pact of the blade allows weapon attacks to scale off of charisma. Probably the best value for war magic?

  • @dragomusic4907
    @dragomusic4907 11 місяців тому +4

Sucks that War Magic is useless at level 11, since casting 1 cantrip is never going to be better than making 2 extra weapon attacks. It should have been the opposite, being able to use a cantrip with a bonus action after making a weapon attack. It would also work with Eldritch strike as well then.

Yeah, EK is kinda ass in the tabletop unless you bring in some cantrips from books beyond the core rulebok.

Would be more useful if you spoke about the spells for them. Or build options. Or gear to be on the lookout for. Or how to build one that doesn’t require putting points into intelligence because it doesn’t really take spells that allow for saving throws or attack rolls.
What you did kind of amounts to showing that you’re literate. There was nothing personal in it. No passion. No enthusiasm. No attempt at originality or something personal.
This doesn’t make sense. You can get the same information, but faster with a google search, without having to sit through a 10 minute video.

It's meant to be a short video showing off the unique parts about a subclass/class. If you don't like them then there are a ton of other youtubers doing Baldurs Gate videos you might like. I have separate videos I'm working on that show and explain all of the spells in the game if that's what you're interested in. These are kind of meant to give people an idea if they would enjoy the subclass or not. Thanks for watching!

@@Omaha01 I appreciate the content. And, I appreciate not taking constructive criticism personally. 👍
If you’re looking for a unique angle … I’ve not seen ANY channel do content on full group composition. People are doing single character builds and ignoring how two team members can work together to do more than what either can do on their own. (And I don’t just mean a twin haste spell).
In general I think people want content based on their tier of play. A great level 4 build may not be the same as a great level 10 build, and that’s ok.

@@Omaha01 I’d much rather hear your opinions and thoughts on the game than hear you read the same text everyone has access to. 👍
You speak well. It sounds like you’ve got reasonable equipment and your editing is solid.
I think you just need an angle to set you apart.
      Couple group ideas:
Everyone has 2 levels of warlock for eldritch sight (only really works for builds after level 7). Ranger beast master also works with this as the dire raven can spawn a darkness cloud every round.
Or a party designed around short rests with a bard and a second person with enough bard to get song of rest. What can you do with 6-8 short rests in a day?
What about builds focused on each act of the game. A build that comes online in the final act may be garbage earlier. Builds should likely be built based on gear available so far. There are several lightning charge items in act 1. What can be done with that? What does a full set of healing gear make possible? Is there a specific build you can use that can do your lock picking and also your healing and also do tanking to free up companion slots?
There’s gotta be stuff you can look at that no other channel has.

@@Omaha01 I don’t see a video about this. I was exploring bard. Bard is, by a LOT the most powerful healer in the early game. Life cleric is better in the late game.
But, no one is talking about it. YOU can.
There is a silly green act 1 item called the hat of curing.
With it your bardic inspiration will heal 1D6. That combines with the other gear to give it … 1D6+2 +bless for two turns + 3 temp hit points. It’s a bonus action. It got a big range. It STILL does the effect of the bardic inspiration on top.
How is that better than healing word?
How many healing slots do you get per day?
Because at level 6 you have 4 bardic inspiration that recharge on short rest and 3 short rests per day. That’s 16 of these per long rest! Nothing else can compete with that!
No one is talking about it. No one else is doing it.
The college of lore bard also gets access to the high level Paladin heal that gives them 10 rounds of ranged bonus action heals on top of this. Bard can get this at level 5 or 6.
I haven’t looked at it. There may be an option to combine with levels of their rogue to get two bonus actions and have the ability to heal twice in a round when needed.
I think this is a big deal.
If your main character is a Halfling bard they can be the face of the party, handle all the dialog, do all the lock picking, handle all the healing, take care of the crowd control and battlefield manipulation. This leaves you three slots to rotation companions through.
