- The town of Lake Toya 洞爺湖 has been devastated by many volcanic eruptions over the last century - with the most recent one happening in 2000. But rather than tearing down ruined buildings, or simply closing them off to the public for good - the town of Lake Toya has decided to turn it into a hiking trail - where you can gain valuable information about the events of the past along a short 1.5hr return hike.
In the same area, and caused by the same volcanic activity, a region dubbed Hell Valley 地獄谷 has become a sulphurous attraction. High geothermal activity heats the water stored naturally in the ground - which the neighbouring town Noboribetsu 登別 has turned into it's source for it's many hot spring baths, or onsens 温泉

So beautiful! Thanks for sharing
Wonderful experience
Thx for sharing this. I felt like I should learn japanese history as a Japanese and a blogger, including in disasters.
It’s interesting to learn about Japanese history! Especially because it’s so different from Australia, we don’t have volcanos or earthquakes 😳
"We have a bit of a trek tonight"
"...17 minutes."
I am dead
Hahaha I think Roy was a little worn out by the end of the day so a dramatic flair came out 😂
