    Best video I've seen on the topic. Pictures help. My question for you is the difference between an ACL tear and a thigh strain. I was injured 3 1/2 weeks ago. Felt the pop. Walking, stairs, sitting was painful. Swelling on knee and upper thigh. Still have a little bruising behind my knee and also on my ankle (no pain there). Now I can walk really well, can bike a couple of miles, but as you said, I'm worried about lateral movements vs straight. Thank you for the great video!

    Loved your video. I tore my ACL but there wasn’t a “Pop!” Also, my knee bent almost 90* Laterally. I have no pain and even when this happened, I experienced no pain. I also have bone brushing and Meniscus tearing. I injured the knee playing tennis over a month ago. I will be getting an operation.

I was limping & had swelling and could not put weight on my knees i do hear crackling sounds & extreme pain. Sleeping at night was impossible on my back, had to sleep on my side. Something definitely happened. Anxious to find out the answers tomorrow.

    My knee issue is behind and right front side (left) I cannot normally get up without it hurting SEVERELY!!! I know because I felt something clicking when I do subtle movements, So I tested myself back against a wall down to a couched position, now when I get up that I put most of the strain on my left knee it hurts severely, it's possibly the Collateral Ligament, it also hurts on the front right side where the ACL is, I cannot stand for more than 30 minutes without it starting to hurt, I can bike no issue, but if I walk after about 1hr it starts to tingle hurt, or I'm sitting down and how I put my foot on the wheel leg where it's just behind, and then I move there is clicking felling on that right side where the ACL is.

    I was playing ping pong on a laminated floor while waiting socks in a basement. My right leg slipped to the side and the left leg wasn’t able to follow it. As a result I got my left knee bent on the side and it popped horrible. Is there an intuitive way to differentiate if I got a meniscus tear or an acl tear? ER didnt want to do an MRI but an X-ray which was certainly not showing this.

    • @joelhurtmd-austinorthopedi4131
      @joelhurtmd-austinorthopedi4131  3 роки тому

      That's a little technical. Short version is you can still see some fibers in continuity between the tibia and femur. As I explained however, if there is a pivot shift bruise pattern in the bone the critical functional part of your ACL is torn.

    Can a dislocated knee cause your acl be torn?

    • @joelhurtmd-austinorthopedi4131
      @joelhurtmd-austinorthopedi4131  Рік тому

      Depends on what you mean by a "dislocated" knee. A true dislocation of the knee (tibio-femoral joint) requires at least 3 ligaments to be torn...usually ACL, PCL, and MCL. It's a horrible injury with a long recovery. When most patients say dislocated knee they mean their kneecap (patella) dislocated. In that case, "No", your ACL would not be torn but your MPFL would be. Only 1/3 of patella dislocations go on to recurrent dislocations. Hope that helps.

      I was walking and was hit by a pick up truck January 11 of last year, and had open fractures in my leg which required 2 rods and 13 pins... and my acl in my left knee was reconstructed.. the surgeon used a cadaver graft... so I tried that lachmon test and my left knee still is unstable... will that ever be ok again????

    • @joelhurtmd-austinorthopedi4131
      @joelhurtmd-austinorthopedi4131  2 роки тому +2

      Small partial ACL tears can but can a full-thickness ACL tear heal?...simple answer is "no". PCL's can but don't see that same type of healing with ACl's. We are trying to figure out ways to facilitate ACL repair with biologics and there are new techniques being used to try to do that but it's not widely done.

  • @jeffpowers1979

    how about people over 70 that still have to work and doctors tell them they don't do ACL repairs on older people.
