Looking at the comments I can tell that a lot of people don’t have a business mindset of how Toyota/Lexus operates from a business perspective. In life you can’t have everything that you want. With every choice comes a trade off, cost and benefit. Just because every other car brand is following the trends of turbo chargers doesn’t mean Toyota/lexus needs to as well. The company knows that the market is shifting from sedan to suv. It doesn’t make sense to invest heavily in the sedan market especially since consumers market are filled with people eager to buy suv. On the other hand this IS is not at all bad. 311 horsepower is still enough for the average consumer that commutes from home, to work, and occasional outings. As a business it doesn’t make sense to devalue a Toyota/Lexus engine to appeal to a small minority of people that want a turbo charged 350-390 horsepower sedan. Your average consumer is not driving a car with 390 horsepower because if your living in the city there’s no point if you’re using it as a daily driver. I can give u an example, Mercedes sold more c300 from 2016-2020 ( 256 horsepower) than that of the c43 and c63. Why you ask? Because the average consumer is not looking for the fastest car. The average consumer which is a majority, is looking for a car that is nice but relatively good looking to commute within the city. Therefore I feel like Lexus nailed it with this IS. Within three years you will see a lot of owners with this car on the road in comparison to the German competition that get tossed out before it reaches 100,000km with problems
As an owner of ‘16 is350 rwd(bought it used and owned it for 2.5 yrs) I love what Lexus has does with the redesign. Those are really good numbers for a 45k/50k used car.
I think the Lexus IS engineers are having a side bet with the Subaru WRX STI engineers to see who can keep their horsepower the same for longer. There is no excuse or reason in this day in age why over the course of a decade and a half this car has only gotten 5(!!!!) additional horsepower while the weight of the car has gone up by several hundred pounds during that time thus actually INCREASING the 0-60MPH time! Yes, the new 2021 IS350 is actually slower than the 2006 IS350 (which actually came out in summer 2015). Keep in mind during the same time period the comparable BMW 3 series model has increased its horsepower by 127 versus the 5 additional HP added by the lazy Lexus engineers. It’s a shame because otherwise this is still a decent car
You are right. The 2021 is350 should have came with 400+hp from factory. At this point I rather get a 2012-2014 IS-F . I currently have a 2013 is350 f-sport 2nd gen as my daily driver and its a fun car no doubt. Bulletproof reliable. But the big bro IS-F is what I want.

Does it have adaptive headlights like mercedes mutlibeam?
the front of this car looks so much better than the weird led check marks
I’m very excited for this, heavily worked to look new and I think if they made a new IS from the ground up, it would look pretty similar to this. Until Lexus adopts a large enough design change, I don’t think it’s entirely necessary to do a ground up redesign.
Does it have the Tailights of the Toyota Avalon
I can’t wait to see what they do with Mazda on the next gen IS. This one will be good enough to hold them over until that new one is ready for 2023-2024.
Cannot wait! Mazda makes excellent sedans in FWD, can you imagine a Mazda tuned RWD version? The dynamics and style of a Mazda with Lexus reliability.....I'm for it!
I think the magic is in the 350 RWD
needs turbo
@@Nofacecsgo nah doesnt need a turbo, needs a better transmission
Why cant Lexus slap a v6 3.5l twin turbo from the LS500 and call it the new ISF?
Damn too bad they canned the GS I would love to see a GS in this styling.
yes damn would've been hard if they came back with this and a tuned v8 5.0 motor pushing 550 or tuned v6twin turbo from the LS500 in it.
@@fixhead562 Same, but who will buy it?
@@cosmic_gate476 same people who buy 5th gen supras and Q60’s
@@fixhead562 I dunno man, I'll take an ISF over GSF any day. It's just got added bloat ya feel me? If people want a fast huge car there are other offerings
@@cosmic_gate476 not really the cars have huge potential and for a fraction of the price of a m5 or e class. Mid size sedans are perfect and for a bigger guy more comfortable and practical. I like the IS but the cabin is super cramped and after a decent drive I can’t wait to get out. They got a GSF to 800hp with a simple bolt on supercharger fuel upgrade and tune. Those are really good numbers for a 45k/50k used car.
Touch screen now? i can still see the mouse pad
Question is.. what shoe do you have on?
would this be better or the audi r7 2021?
Why does it still have halogen rear turn signals? It cheapens the look of the car.
I'd take this IS350 anyday over the other cars in the class including the new TLX and i am a former TL owner.
Lexus did a great job on the exterior, like it more than the new TLX. Everything else sucks on the IS
Agreed, but if they truly came out with the rumoured IS500, I'm jumping right in. Don't care if the interior looks old.
It is the marketing and management not investing
Where did they put the EV battery?
What are your thoughts on the rwd?
Happy 420 matt!
the car looks lifted, why is it that high?
But is the IS500 coming that is the question
In 5 years when I retire, Not comparing apples to apples BUT I’m either looking at this car or a 2021/22 Toyota Supra 3.0 premium. Potential issues is the Toyota supra is a BMW so it might have long-term issues
Add a Tasteful exhaust and intake and a small tune it could be magical.
I LOVE this color combo
Needed the twin turbo from the ls500. The v6 is good for a mid range option. But it's not competitive
Why does it look like a hatchback from the 3/4 angle.. i thought it was a CT review in the thumbnail
Please do the 2021 Acura TLX next!
Coming next week!
I want an Is350 f sport. Perhaps not this one but the next generation if they make it
Compare to ES, this IS new model is just look like facelift model.
Engine wise are similar offer too.
Just the body rigidity slight better I believe.
So Matt, how does this compare to the Kia Stinger GT?
Stinger GT is much faster, has more dynamic handling, better grip (tires), better transmission, more space, more practicality and a slightly more luxurious interior. Oh and a much longer warranty lol.
But does the Kia have Lexus reliability?
Great review Matt!
Only time will tell with reliability but I don't think Kia would put a 10 year warranty on a car that will fall apart before then.
@@MattMaranMotoring Unfortunately KIA still has too many serious recalls.
I'll take two. Thank you.
6:42 your welcome 🚗💨💨💨💨
Very good looking , and yes your going to feel understeer before you feel over steer , especially in a AWD , the rear of normal cars should never swing out in normal cornering under a power oversteer yes but throwing it into a right corner no ...
Loving this car!!
Surprised Lexus couldn't have at least released the hybrid version like they have in Europe.
