I have one of these and it suits my writing style very well; it adds a bit of character to both my printing and my cursive writing. I tend to print in all caps, so I suppose it makes sense. Thanks!

The line variation isn’t only in up and down vs side to side. If you hold the pen near vertically, the line will be fine; holding it near the paper, below normal writing angle, will give a wider line. So multiple ways to get variation: angle, direction of writing, and pressure.
This pen accepts replacement HongDian #5 nib units, which just screw in. So if you don’t care for the long blade, you can swap out with an EF, F, M or bent nib (fude).
I like my two A3s, one in silver and one in black, both the spiral design like you have. They’re reliable smooth writers that don’t dry out, and the snap cap makes them quick to access in note taking. They’re comfortable to write with, posted or not. (In contrast, I gave up on my Metropolitan, which always dried out, was less comfortable to hold, and did not come with a converter.)
I agree, it is a great bargain and does provide some variation. I wish HongDian would offer a broad nib, though, but my guess is that eventually they will.

Fortunately it is not too expensive. I think you can find the nibs sold separately on ebay and/or Ali Express from Chinese sellers
