Wooo!! More Maneskin please! Beautiful reaction. The song talks about making a pact with the "devil", a.k.a. giving up your life and/or soul in exchange for success...which ultimately leads to loosing those who are the most important to you. Trastevere is an artistic, hippie district of Rome, a perfect place where aspiring artists can meet the devil to make a deal, I guess (even if it was chosen at random). I've always read the chorus as reflecting on what you've lost. It's telling someone that they were more important than fame, but they're already gone, so you have to move on (cancel their name from your songs). The "leave me alone, take everything I've got", it can adress the devil- "take what's yours (what's in the pact) and go away"- you've paid what you were due and now you break the pact. Or it's adressing that loved one, who by leaving takes your heart with them. Or both? Maybe it's the same person? Because there's this weird "she" who's licking devil's fingers ("she" has "the look of an angel, the taste of the drug"?). Man, this are such short lyrics, but there's so much room for interpretation. Apparently it's an old song, so it's hard to say what and who it was actually about. But the time when it was released last year also adds an extra layer of meaning, since it was a few months after he broke up with his girlfriend (they've been together for many years), and it just suits this situation so well... Since the lifestyle they had, living in different timezones, being on tour for months etc definitely was something that contributed to this. And she was indeed referred to in many of his songs, notably Coraline. This was also released together with a few other songs, among them Valentine and Off my face, both directly related to that break up, and both using a metaphor of love as a drug, that you're addicted to. Here it talks about a "taste of a drug" too. Maybe a complete coincidence, but the timing just makes it kind of powerful.
Thx. They work together, they don't have an artistic dictator. They have to listen to each other and give room. That method obviously works well, and gives a lot of variety in style. That's the reason, it's unlikely they'll break up. Peace.
To answer your question: From what I've observed, they are truly a group project -- All of them receive equal credit for songwriting, and, based on what I've heard in interviews, they make decisions by consensus as a group. Damiano, the singer, writes most of the lyrics. Sometimes the band members start out alone or working in pairs to come up with a concept (as Thomas and Damiano did with this song) and then they bring their ideas to the group to further develop a song and its arrangement. They've been friends since they were young teenagers, so I think as artists they benefit from having developed that bond and trust over the years.
Nice to hear from Måneskin again, Zana🙏💕. That was hauntingly beautiful. Without much hype, just the artists who express emotions with their instruments, and especially Damiano with his unique and touching voice. So pure and real. Written poetry comes to life 💕. HAP, I enjoyed seeing how this performance touched you. This makes your reactions so special🥰🙋🏻♀️.
Wow, that was great! The vocals have matured, from other songs I have heard. This was deep and well crafted. Hap, you are so spot on in your analysis, to what I was thinking. It's uncanny. Zana, terrific choice!! Haven't heard from Maneskin in a minute, and pleasantly surprised at this piece. 🎉💕
Your best and sincere reactions are when you are lost for words. At least for a minute 🙂. It says a lot. Yes, there are actually Four of them. But Victoria was missing with her bass guitar. And Ethan, the drummer, had joined Thomas with guitar playing for this one. Thomas' short but extraordinary solo guitar part for me gave even more emotions to the song. I think the song is about temptation, selling your soul for success but eventually seeking for redemption and not causing any more pain to others. But it is open for contemplating because they Are poets as you said. I read that Damiano explained how they came up with the song at Thomas place in Trastevere and Damiano's phone automatically recorded the location. So they decided to name the song "Trastevere" by that part of Rome. I think I don't even need to say it.. But, it was a memorable reaction! 🙏🎶
They are equal each of them writes their part of a song. But Thomas creates a melody that starts a writing process very often i guess. And Dami writes all lyrics and he is the one who wrote wbys's riff
It's about the conversation with 'the devil', after you've 'sold your soul' to the devil, aka industry, and begging him to undo the deal, and wanting back your family, your life that you've lost because of it.
Wow!! This song is amazing and very soulful. It’s meticulously performed as well. I’m adding this one to my playlist!!
