In Florida we can use it for deer and do use it for deer. Yes you can shoot coyotes and varmints with it also. That is a newer one than mine. Mine works just fine but I did replace the older plastic stock that was not as good as the newer stocks. I put a Boyd's laminated hard wood stock on it and my bullet groups improved immediately. If you have extraction problems you can get an aftermarket Improved Extractor Kit from Sharp Shooter Supply for about $20. I did and no more extraction problems. The factory trigger is heavy and gritty so I did a do it yourself trigger job on mine without altering any angles and without making the trigger unsafe. It now has about a three to four pound trigger pull and its a lot smoother and cleaner breaking. Mine shoots Winchester Super X 55gr. soft point factory ammo the best. I have a lot of rounds through mine but that is why I got it, so I could shoot a lot of rounds. .223 is about the cheapest and most available rifle round on the market. Thanks for sharing.

I dont mind the Savage Axis.. but I prefer the Savage Axis II with the AccuTrigger.
