Welcome back! Hope the new year treats you and your family well. One thing I've decided I like the most is that you are so very organized in how your garage is set up (considering your space constraints), and in how you tackle the jobs you take on. VERY well done.
Clicked on this video to at-least get a glimpse peek at GT350 , its engine etc and thought to figure out the status. I'm glad to hear you are setting up your garage to organize engine parts and the build to start soon. Can't wait.
Proper transmission fluid change is most important. The longetivity of it depends on it .Its a very good basic information fact .Brilliant Doris .You are truly smart😊👍
Am I so glad you're back Doris, I too was gonna send you a message just to see if you were well, I'm glad you are, happy new years and looking forward to see your videos for 2020
i LOVE Your enthusiasm and how animated You get talking about a fluid change! It is absolutely inspirational. i also love the blue nail polish, looking forward to the next car wash video so we can see it on Your pretty toes as well;) Thank You for sharing Your automotive life with Your devoted fans!
You have to put the car in drive and let the motor turn the rear wheels before the differential turns. Just letting it idle doesn't do it. So, you need to drive the car at a low speed (10 MPH) for a few minutes (around the block or so). If you listen closely, you should hear the pump to the differential coolers start sucking. That should get rid of the air in the system. Then go back and recheck the levels and refill as necessary. I did that twice on my Corvette Z06 to make sure it was up to the correct level (each time I needed to add a little bit more fluid). By the way, I am looking forward to the engine rebuild.
Hi! That depends on the car. The service manual states leave it on and idle for about 2 minutes, then check the fluid level and refill of needed (which it needed). I did take it out for a spin shortly after. I need to raise the car and check the levels again. Should be fine though. Let's see how the rebuild comes along ;)
Hahahaha oh she already used up that vacation time hahaha I mean I don’t want her to overwork herself but I don’t wanna miss out on the garage stuff 😂🙌
I need to do this soon. According to the Chevy dealer the coolant, trans oil and differential fluid flush will cost around $350 for a 2016 Malibu Hybrid with 52K on it. Do those numbers sound reasonable, or are they just charging me more because it's a hybrid ? The Battery seems to be ok and does not need to be touched. Also, do the coolant, trans oil, and differential fluid need to be done at the same time ?
Hey, is your oil drain catch basin adjustable? Lower it a bit and put a scrap piece of wood on top and use it as a platform to set your fluid bottles on while pumping in new fluids. Might be easier than having to hold the bottles and pump🤷🏼♂️. Maybe you won’t drop it next time😆
Everytime I'm like.... "huh Doris hasn't dropped a video in while..... something must be going on with the Shelby" lol then the next day you come out with one.
Welcome to the new decade Doris! Don't worry about dropping the fluid. I recently dropped an X pipe on my head LOL. When is the D drives video coming on the Toyota in the driveway? I can't wait 🤣
I'm glad to be part of it lol. That pump was annoying..caused me to drop the diff bottle lol..hopefully your head it alright. As for the D drives..haha..not on this channel. That wonderful Toyota is for a new channel ;)
@@georgetouzis6103 - if it was low to start with, you'd be doing a visual inspection before draining... looking for obvious leaks and either monitor or repair as required, because a transmission is a closed system... and of course you'd check the service manual for this procedure, which will also have specs for partial drain/fill, as well as checking the fluid level, which you would do *BEFORE* you begin the procedure. Love your videos sister! They make a bag style for gear oil and atf so you don't need a pump. I've been on Utube also doing a fluid changes on Eben Rockmaker's channel synthetic protection here in Vegas.
I've seen the bag style..at least on their site lol. I don't see how I can fit a back to fill the trans though..really no space with a cooler line that blocks most of the fill hole lol
They say some new cars have “sealed” transmissions. Does that mean we can’t service them ourselves? Or would it be harder to? I have a 2015 Jeep renegade and I been told it’s sealed. Differential whatever I have no idea where it’s at lol. All I know is dealer wants to charge me $320 for transmission fluid change. I’m thinking just letting them do it. Too complicated for me. Are there any new vehicles that are easy to do maintenance yourself? Perhaps a Nissan Frontier? Since it’s an older vehicle still being made?
Thank you, I appreciate it. Yup..back to working on cars. That is actually my old toolbox. It's empty. I need to put it up for sale since it's taking up room lol

Hm..both interesting ideas lol. For sure the cutting the tube and replacing would have saved me time lol. I have to swap the trans and diff fluid of the GT-R. I'm sure I'll do it better and quicker this time around ;). Thanks!

Oh,ok I heard you say something about not being able to drain the transmission cooler lines and I thought it was an automatic.glad to see you stay on top of the maintenance on your whips.
Don’t worry about the transmission cooler, that’s a totally separate closed system which does not mix fluid with the trans or rear diff. But, it does cool the rear diff and transmission in the same loop. It’s just not necessary to flush it since it is only used for cooling.
I know this is an old comment but I'm curious to know. What is the medium used to cool the trans ane diff in the look that runs into the trans and diff?
@@osos231 it’s a liquid to liquid cooler setup. Two little heat exchangers, one in the diff and one in the transmission. They’re tied together and then go to a dedicated radiator up front, and the coolant in the system is separate from all other systems. You can see the cooler lines running down the middle of the car near the driveshaft, you’ll see where they connect into the diff and also into the transmission and then go up to the front.
Hey, Doris, quick question. I own a 2012 GT-R, but I'm probably going to sell it to get something that is a little cheaper to deal with and doesn't require as much looking after. Hey! Although the GT-R is great and I can tell you that when prepped right, it destroys on the track. I hear you on the looking after. I will soon do a trans/diff flush on the GT-R and it's involved, as you know ;) Although the GT-R is not mine, I have dragged it, tracked it and raced with it.. different experience compared to the ZL1 1LE. I had a 2016 GT and It felt like a different car when I first got into a GT350..it's a feel thing more than a show thing with the two.
Cool, thanks for the response. I do a lot of "spirited" driving on the roads nearby, and I have Circuit of the Americas to carve up on the occasional weekend. I'm leaning towards the 1LE. Anyway, kudos on a very informative channel.
Hi D good to see you happy new year an can't wait to see the GT350 engine build an all your other cars as they are upgraded 4 the new year nice one 👌👌🤗🤗
While my 2017 SS 1LE is still under warranty, I stick with the recommended AC Delco Differential Gear oil which already has the limited slip friction modifier additive already mixed into the fluid. Just wondering if the Amsoil Differential fluid has the ELSD additive or if you added that separately?
That's perfectly fine..to keep it in check, use what they say ;). I'm tuned so all that is out the window lol. Yes, this differential already comes with their own additive mixed in. If for whatever reason you need more, they sell it separately. So far so good.
Never apologize for taking time off!! Glad you're back nevertheless. Does your Shelby have one of the irritating "lifetime fluid" transmissions Ford sometimes inflicts us with? If it does I'd love a video on how a home mechanic might change it. It seems like highway robbery when all my other cars sufficed with pan drops....
We'll see, it took my son and I a good 3 hrs to install a new water pump on an 04 suburban and it has all kinds of room to work with. Luckily my boy just started the Automotive program at EVIT so future fixes should get easier :) I know your channel is geared primarily to performance and maintenance but could you do a video on why you chose the rides you have? I searched you video archive and didn't see anything along those lines but I could have missed it.
Hey Wassup yo happy New Year to you too also but I like the camaro better hopefully comes out awesome can't wait for the next video keep up the great work... :)
Hi , Doris , and happy new year 2020 to you. Powerful exhaust on Camaro , l listen in the headphones , when Camaro started up , l dropped the tablet 😁. A familiar red car ,how many years have passed , her noble burned out paint .P.S. Good luck
Two things to note: - 1. A fluid flush is an exchange of the fluid in the transmission AND torque converter. A drain/fill only changes the fluid in the transmission, and does not include the fluid in torque converter. - 2. You may want to check the fluid manufacturer specifications from a *Qualified Representative* for the transmission fluid, because ATF is ATF and Gear Oil is Gear Oil... the two are NOT the same and may NOT be compatible with each other. The incompatibility can possibly *GUM-UP* the valve body, as well as cause *CHATTER* between the clutch discs/steels inside the planetary gear sets of your automatic transmission. FYI... People who race their cars will usually do a transmission rebuild, then filling with NEW fluid when they want to switch fluid types. Example: When I raced my 1965 Dodge Dart - 600HP 383 cu in with a Custom Built 727 Torqueflite Automatic, I used 5606H - Aircraft Hydraulic Oil... mainly for the fire retardants in the fluid, but it is also Mineral Oil Based for use with Synthetic Rubber Seals... 5606 is NOT ATF, and conversely.
@@woman.driven I nearly got my pinky stuck once, so never again, and then you'd get cars that said something weird like 12.6567mm from filler plug so it seemed easy to bend some welding wire with the correct measured lengths.

Happy New Year to you.Amsoil is a great product.
Happy New Year. I agree!
❤️, keep doing what you love.
Siphon feed fluid remove system may not get all the oil just 95% but it sure saves time going in the dipstick to pump out
I would be happy if I were half the mechanic you are Doris, welcome back from your break.
You will become a better one 😊😉 Thanks!
We'll see, it took my son and I a good 3 hrs to install a new water pump on an 04 suburban and it has all kinds of room to work with. Luckily my boy just started the Automotive program at EVIT so future fixes should get easier :)
I know your channel is geared primarily to performance and maintenance but could you do a video on why you chose the rides you have? I searched you video archive and didn't see anything along those lines but I could have missed it.
Happy New Year Doris and welcome back! Another great video and I’m looking forward for the mustang rebuild series!🐟
Thank you, I appreciate it. Time to get that video started!
Missed you Doris, loved the blue nail polish by the way! I am looking to swap to AMSOIL in the near future

Thank you! Yes..it's a must if you know it's never been changed..a pain of a task though haha. Thank you!
What’s your opinion on the best exhaust setup for your Camaro Zl1? Or a Camaro in general
Wow Doris your like a Auto Technician Dr.👍 your right I luv amsoil; the modern Techs are cheating using Siphon pump without removing drain plug
Interesting..well..seems like I need to upgrade how I do things thing lol. Thanks for watching!

Hola! Hi! Happy New Year! 💜😊

Hello Doris 😍😍😍

We missed you Doris glad you’re back 💯❤️
I've missed you all ;)..back to posting 👍😊
Carlitoes Ltz She’s back💕
for the Manual Trans fluid is the weight 5w-30? just want to make sure I'm buying the proper fluid
Two things to note:
Hi Doris I missed you, glad to see you back, happy new year to you too, nice informative video, keep up the great work

Ur welcome
Happy new year Dorace..so happy to see you..love you
Happy new year! 💜😊
Bent piece of welding wire was always my level checker 😉 nice one Doris.
I need to get that.. I couldn't rely on my pinky as I did need to add a bit more fluid lol.
@@woman.driven I nearly got my pinky stuck once, so never again, and then you'd get cars that said something weird like 12.6567mm from filler plug so it seemed easy to bend some welding wire with the correct measured lengths.
You have a classic Camry on your driveway! That's so cool!😁
haha..yup. I love it. It's so different than anything else. That is for a different channel though.
@@woman.driven let us know when are going to do a video on the Camry. I think that's really cool. What channel are you going feature the Camry?
