Oh, the doctors nowadays are complicated and hard to pass on. I'm skinny, healthy, European, never sick, no genetic preferences for anything, in a good shape, and I came to the doctors because I developed horrible acne case on my forehead, which was caused by wearing masks in the filthy and dusty environment taking care of the kids, and I was a nanny for 9 years. He said I can't help you with that but here's some free flu shots and so on. I took some blood tests, and it was in the extremely stressful time of my life, and for the time cholesterol showed up in traces. Even if they had my weight, age, medical story in front of them and that I work so hard I can't do anything but lay down once I'm home. I also cook and eat healthy and I'm 54kg (119ish lbs 5.4 high) weight average for the past 30 years lol. They called to ask me if I could do enough exercise and eat healthy. I do all that I just have a hard life, and so much frustration from the nanny jobs I had to quit!!! Now I've found a job that is just as hard as physical work, but quiet. They thought I have colon cancer when I developed hemorrhoids from hard lifting heavy kids for years.... I had biopsies for such stupid reasons. If they were so hard on my stress cholesterol that btw didn't show up just a few weeks later, on my other test, how come they can't be firm with these people? And they are eating bad food, they are cheaters and only want miracle pill to eat as much as they want and lose weight at the same time. Talking about people who act like addicts and and genetics???? Has anyone seen the movies and documentaries from the past, as 60ties, 70ties, part of 80ties.... where were all the morbidly obese people? They were not to be seen!!!! I'm 47 sorry I get pissed off of nonsense and excuses. I survived the war and all sorts of tragedies that brought me to this country but eating is not my issue. I eat to survive and to live, I do not live to eat!!!!! And I'm sorry if I sound rude, I come from a culture that doesn't get offended with just anything. I'm working on my social skills
***Video idea: why is no one on the left, aka environmentalists, discussing the impact on the environment of obese people? Their over use of resources: food, water (consumption and for washing large clothing and bodies), excess fabric needed for clothing, excessive wear and tear on furniture and mattresses, sheets etc needing to be replaced more often. The list goes on but absolutely NO ONE is discussing it and you’d think the radical environmentalists would be unleashing on this fat positivity movement but no… complete silence. Would make an awesome video! Just sayin. Love your videos and you are so beautiful!!!
Why does she think she would be miserable if she were thin (a healthy weight)? More energy, less joint pain, less social stigma? Sounds absolutely miserable, yep.
And also being proud of choosing a detrimental disease like diabetes, not only is that disgusting to those who don't have a choice about that disease but also to the people who will footing the bill for your self imposed sickness.
As someone whose best friend suffered for years and died at the age of 40 due to diabetes (type 1), it's absolutely shocking to hear someone say that they'd rather "get diabetes than be miserable". Complete madness. They have no idea what they're talking about or how bad it can get.
My brother in law has type 1 and is really suffering and back in the hospital again. It shocks me to my core to hear someone say that too. I'm so sorry about your friend. ❤️
Fr. A cousin in the previous generation just ignored his diabetes. Now he lost his foot & can't experience things with his son like he used to. Shits serious. Had to babysit my friend with diabetes during our drinking years cause we both knew the risks & it's good to have a homie's back.
what she doesn't know is that having diabetes can be pretty miserable. My grandpa developed his diabetes to type 1 in his 70s and he needed to cut every sugar, alcohol and bad food off his life otherwise he would die (he has more health complications that were potentiated by diabetes type 1). He also has to inject insulin twice a day. I've never seen him so depressed fr it's really sad...
When I hear people say “I’d rather get [insert chronic condition] than adjust my lifestyle”, I tend to assume they don’t have a lot of experience with life altering chronic conditions. I’ve struggled my whole life with chronic health problems. If there was something I could do to make them go away completely, I would do it in a heartbeat
Same. Hearing her say she’d rather have a chronic condition than just change herself made me cringe. It also shows how grossly entitled she is. Just like you said, I’d do ANYTHING to get rid of my condition and live normally. These people need a healthy dose of reality 😂
Some really mean it tho. My mom has fibromyalgia, t2 diabetes, osteoarthritis, had 18" of her intestines and half her rectum removed due to diverticular disease and never wanted to change her diet as much as she needed to. She changed it just enough to keep herself off of insulin all these years, but her diet is easily 80% processed junk. She always sick, always in pain. I have some of these same illnesses like fibro and IBS, but I try hard to manage them through diet and keeping weight off and I'm not nearly as sick as she is. I try to tell her to try changing her diet and see how her body responds after a week, but she's told me baldly that she's not interested. 🤷 "That without remedy is without regard"
As another person with a chronic illness, I don't think people realize that changing your lifestyle to avoid a disease vs. getting the disease will both mean your lifestyle changes. I didn't have a choice to avoid mine, but it has changed my lifestyle, regardless of how much or little effort I put into taking care of it. If you have the choice, may as well change your lifestyle and not have a sickness on top of it.
I finished this pretty late at night and saw I only had 5k steps on my fitbit because i've been sitting all day...literally went to the warmed up then hopped on the treadmill to do some sprints. all these people really motivate me.
My mom died of complications from Covid in 2021. She was 61. I never understood how dangerous diabetes (and metabolic disease in general) was before then. I thought she was in no immediate danger, no risk of amputation or anything. Then her body couldn't fight off a novel infection because of it. She was fully vaccinated. I've lost about 40 pounds since then, and I'm aiming for 60 more. I don't want to die in my early 60s because I didn't give myself the most basic care. I won't put my family through this. *edit 5/24/23 down 60 pounds and counting **edit edit 11/22 down 75
My mom died at 59 from similar complications. I too had a reality check. Down 33 lbs, healthy BMI, cholesterol has gone from borderline high to perfect. Let’s 👏🏻 go 👏🏻
i'm so sorry for your loss, but im glad it could evoke a change in you. i'm sure your mom would be happy she in a way helped save your life. keep going!
this. you’re free to make your own choices and be aware of the consequences, but do not go around telling people that those actions don’t have consequences
I'm an intermittent alcoholic. Agreed. I'm not gonna go around telling people vodka is good for them and doesn't cause severe liver damage. We need to stop making excuses just because the truth hurts our feelings

In some ways smoking reduces chances of death from cancer. Not because it’s beneficial for your health and doesn’t trigger cancer. But because smoking will likely cause you to die from heart attack before you even start developing cancer.
I like being able to carry all the groceries up the stairs to my third-floor apartment in one single trip without risking a heart attack or gasping for air. That's motivation enough to eat and exercise healthy.
Yeah, but have you considered that extreme exercise is unhealthy? If you run 200 miles without rest, it’s actually bad for you. Soo umm... that’s related I guess.
@@derp195It's actually not related because you don't have to run 200 miles to not be obese and carrying bags up 3 levels of stairs isn't an extreme workout, it's called a daily task/function
Ironic she used random studies to show how exercise was bad but refuses to acknowledge all the overwhelming amount of studies showing dangers of obesity.
I just don't understand why pull exercise into the conversation at all. Everyone can get the benefits of exercise even if they don't want to loose weight.
1 study says vaccines cause autism while 100 says it doesnt, which one are facebook moms gonna believe. kind of same thing here. "which essential oil cures broken bones? doctors are a scam!!"
I don't think anybody with any medical condition that requires daily medication to function is excited about it. The fear of missed doses and losing medications isn't something to smile about.
Diabetes is not happymaking at all and on top of that, it's very expensive to treat and to eat properly for. For someone who claims to be a doctor, she hasn't a clue. Losing your eyesight, your feet, your ability to work.... not happy!
Bro I’ve been a type 1 diabetic for like 12 years now, fuck this woman sideways, diabetes regardless of the type is a full time job, it fucks up parts of your body when you don’t care for yourself properly, I’ve gotten neuropathy and retinopathy from years of having diabulimia and only now have I managed to get a handle on it. She doesn’t know what she’s on about.
@@middleofnowhere1313 Yeah, that lady has no right to call herself a doctor. A true doctor helps people not indulge them in a life threatening decease.
I had a broken arm the other day, so I went to see the doctor. Doctor said they would need to fix my arm with surgery and a cast. This was so obvious it was condescending. Therefore I left the hospital without treatment and resumed skateboarding on the highway. I see broken-arm-acceptance still has a ways to go
"You can't change your weight" was exactly what I didn't say when I was diagnosed with heart disease over 10 years ago. I also gave up smoking and alcohol and started the process of dropping from 245 pounds to 195. It still wasn't my ideal BMI, but at least I felt better and I'm still here with a smile on my face.
It sounds like she has binge eating problems and feels like she can’t control her weight. Been there, got a therapist, my weight is in the normal range now.
"I'd rather be fat and have the risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc" has the same energy as "I'd rather not wear my seat belt cuz it's uncomfortable to wear and have the risk of unaliving if I get in an accident"
Funny enough, or not, very fat people don't use a seat belt because sometimes it gets really uncomfortable, or it simply doesn't fit them. During an accident, someone without a seat belt its hit with a force of their weight multiplied by 50. So a fat person without a seat belt on an accident? Dead.
if she was a dentist she wouldn't fix cavaties or tell patients to brush, floss, or use mouthwash. "your cavities arent caused by the fact that you eat/drink too much sugar, it's because maybe womehwere along the line one of your relatives also had lots of cavities. tooth decay is natural, and actually used to be considered beautiful in 1200s England!"
The emotionalizing of medical science should be a concern. If we allow medicine to become dictated by what makes people “feel good,” then what else will we start denying in the future?
They already deny vaccines. Here in our rich country of the US, all these people refused to vaccinate their kids. They definitely don’t give a crap if their kids die of whooping cough because someone lied and said it causes autism. I’m autistic. It’s genetic. Even if it was caused by vaccines (it’s not), It’s not as bad as dying from whooping cough! The scarier thing is definitely the lack of vaccination. Because they’ve ruined healthcare workers lives, small businesses, and many people dies because unvaccinated people took up hospital beds. Yet, they still refuse to be vaccinated. Selfish entitled people suck.
I work as a medical interpreter (so like not a medical provider) and i had a case once with a diabetic woman going into diabetic shock and they were trying to find her vain for an iv but she was so fat that they couldn’t it and the whole time i was interpreting for the attendant “stay with us ms so and so. Come on stay with us” Nobody shamed her for being fat but it literally put her life at risk. It was really scary honestly
That sounds really intense! I had never considered that medical interpreters would be present in situations like the one you described. But of course it happens. Hope you are ok after seeing people in such distressing situations, you're doing important work.
@@cinnamoslut There are cases in which the ambulance could not take a patient because the overweight made it very difficult for the doctors to put them on the stretcher, in worse cases that they could not go through the doors, which complicates even more being able to attend them on time.

If I hear “marginalized body” as a reference to people that have made themselves overweight/obese due to poor lifestyle habits ONE more time…I’m gonna lose it
I agree. But also remember that it takes a long time for people to lose weight. It doesn’t happen over night. So that doesn’t mean they deserve to be treated differently. You never know what people have been through or what they’re doing in the moment to better themselves
@@heyitmaggie2390I’m confused by your comment? the original commenter didn’t say losing weight wasn’t a slow process, or that it was hard? They said calling yourself marginalized while DOING that to yourself doesn’t count, and it drives them crazy.
I’m in med school in Sweden and one of the questions in my last exam was “What is the main reason why the incidence of esophageal cancer is increasing?” and the answer was literally just “because more people are becoming obese”. I think it’s crazy how we learn to help people be healthier but instead people think that we are against them somehow.
"Literally"? You used that word but that speaks to a oversimplification of the actual data. Since it's medical school, they use the very basic information from the books so it's going to be the basic dysplasia of the lining of the esophagus from acid reflux which is related to obesity and making the assumption that rising obesity rates caused this. I doubt they'd actually go further than that and actually educate med students on the association of highly fermented and irritating foods with the high incidence of upper GI CA and it's increase in world diets. So that would be a pretty bad school to ask that question and have the literal answer to be "because more people are becoming obese".
@@itsgonnabeanaurfromme Yes we are taught that. The question was why the incidence is increasing. A previous question was about ALL risk factors of esophageal cancer, but this question was regarding which risk factor that is contributing the most to the increase, which is obesity. Hot liquids, smoking, alcohol etc all contribute to increased risk of dysplasia but none of those are the biggest cause to the increase. It’s a short answer exam and it’s a basic level of pathology, however they did ask us about other risk factors as well.
My dad was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in early 2021. By the grace of God he still with us, but he has a TERRIBLE diet. He's a massive sugar addict.
Story time: I was playing “would you rather” With some friends- four of them happened to be doctors- and I asked the question “would you rather get diabetes or HIV?”…all of the doctors said HIV because these days HIV is actually more easily managed than diabetes. Mind blown.
@@courtonabudget I’d say medication access and health policies, which in many countries are horrible. But yeah, every highly profitable condition has the same issue. Sucks! But at least millions of people, partners and children are no longer in danger 💚
Yep that is what addicts do. Drug addicts do the same.. They get sober, have a program, then they think they no longer need it. Then they go back to there addictive thinking and something happens and they relapse. Well her problem was she wanted to be famous, which meant probably losing the weight as fast she could. Well she could not maintain it and is now blaming everything but her poor planning and not understanding a diet is not about starving yourself just to losing weight and then going back eating like normal. Instead it is about changing your behavior including your thinking and see food as energy instead of just pleasure to be used to escape emotions in life. Basically addicts will go from one extreme to the next and when it does not work they go back to what they are most comfortable with. Food does not make someone a addict. There thinking does which is why it is a mental illiness. Now days anyone can say they are a medical doctor even if they no longer practices or lost their license. They will just use there degree and you think the person is qualified. Having some common sense is important.

She says she would rather get diabetes than be miserable, when she already SOUNDS miserable... The temporary happiness that food brings is not worth it.
If she wants diabetes so bad she is well on her way to get it. And it is no bed of roses. Pricking your fingers all the time, taking insulin, being in a life threatening state. Etc.... I do not have diabetes but I am already at the stage where I have to prick my fingers all the time to watch my glucose due to being hypoglycemic and having insulin resistance due to an auto immune disorder. And in the future no matter what I do I will eventually become diabetic. I am already on diabetes medicine to help with the insulin resistance, as well as a specialized diet to help keep my blood sugars as stable as possible. So it kills me inside to see these dumbos and other idiots say they would rather have diabetes then be thin. Really? And I am sure it hurts those who actually have diabetes and even those who were born with Type 1 even more. 😮💨😑
She also doesn't know what she's talking about. I've been married to my diabetic husband for about 3 years now and we have had as many near death experiences due to us trying to lower his A1C. Before he knew he had diabetes his heart nearly stopped. You can't be happy or miserable if you're dead!
She has no idea how much more miserable she'll be as a diabetic. I'm overweight myself and I notice a definite difference in my mood when I eat mainly healthy food for a few days vs. the days where I eat out of convenience (junk food). Now I'm more motivated to eat healthier, because being in a better mood (or overall feeling) is so much better than those couple of seconds of joy that a cookie is in my mouth.
I love how she talks about extreme cardiac remodeling causing cardiovascular issues. Unless you're an Olympic level athlete, which we already know has its risks, you don't have any risk of working out so much your heart remodels you into being deceased
"You can change your behavior, you can't change your weight." LMAO WHAT Also she said that being obese has no direct correlation to diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, etc and then turns around and says she'd rather have diabetes than be "thin and miserable." 🤡
As a smoker myself, I could say that "I can't change my black lungs" too even through my behaviors I made them be like that, the same with fat people LOL

That woman said she rather have diabetes than be miserable is really insane. If food is only thing making you happy than you got a problem. And seeing people struggle with diabetes is honestly so sad.
Okay, I've seen doctors while skinny and also while overweight. They never listen. It doesn't matter what you look like. 🤷♀️ if you find one that does actually listen to you, keep them. They are a gem!
I was going to mention being thin. My doctor is obsessed with my weight because it can drop pretty low when I'm stressed, sad, or worried about something. And oh baby if it does, any complaint I have? "Your BMI is too low." Dizzy? You're too thin. (I think that one is obvious) Weird periods? Thin. Bruising? Thin. (Less cushioning). Even insomnia can be caused by being too thin (or too fat). (The too thin one is really wild. Apparently it's a combination of what you'd expect (being cold, not enough cushioning, hunger etc.) but it's also due to your brain telling you to wake up and HUNT.) And the reality is that he's absolutely correct. Not to mention if you're too thin or too fat, you're going to have a lot of hormonal issues as a result. Sure, they can look at your hormones to tell you what a lot of your symptoms are already telling them. And of course, they should treat acute symptoms. If you're running a fever, chances are it's because you have some sort of infection, bacterial or viral. Could your immune system be suffering due to body weight? Sure. But they're still going to treat the acute symptom. Signs of infection, injury, etc aren't going to be ignored. And if you get your physical once or twice a year, then that helps catch anything that isn't immediately apparent. Also, if your weight IS a contributing factor, and you refuse to do anything about it because "fatPHOBIA?/Skinny SHAMING?" and nothing gets better, it's audacious to blame the doctor. They told you what's causing this. They can temporarily treat the symptoms, but that's all they can do.
Lol true. I've completely lost faith in most medical practitioners. Go to a doctor that actually loves their job. Cause sadly most doctors aren't in it to help people.
Yeah, I used to get "lose some weight" as the solution through most of my 20s. Now I go into so much detail and explaining my non-weight related health issues that if a doctor ever told me only to "lose weight" I would literally tell them to either give me another possibility or I'd sit in that room until they did. I didn't pay $200 to see a doctor to tell me nothing.
@Slim Dusty so my issue was a torn ligament in my knee from overuse. The doctor tried to tell me I was too fat and that I had arthritis. I got an x-ray, surprise! No arthritis! This is the stuff I'm talking about. I didn't go to the doctor because my breasts were too large and my back hurt. Turns out I did too much activity (from gardening) and injured my knee. If it was up to them, I would have kept using it and injured it more. Also, I'm like a "mid-size" person. It's not like I'm waddling in at 600 pounds complaining of knee pain. I'm very active, but also I like desserts. 🤷♀️
@Slim Dusty my son's pediatrician, didn't listen to me when I said my son had colick because he must be allergic to something, he also had excema. I was SO sleep deprived it took me until he was 4 to switch doctors and get a referral to an allergist. Turns out he DID have a food allergy, and it morphed into an environmental allergy as he had aged. So he SUFFERED (and I did too honestly) because the doctor thought I was exaggerating his throwing up. I could write you a small book about the times I've been written off. I literally never go to the doctor now unless in severe pain. We take care of it all naturally at home as much as possible because guess what?? I'm usually right and have to find a doctor to do the test to prove it! Thankfully, like with my knee, there was an orthopedic doctor who was like, "You are 30 there's no way you have arthritis." 🤦♀️🤦♀️

As someone with diabetes, a DOCTOR saying they would rather have diabetes than be “miserable” is so ignorant to me. Makes ZERO sense. She’s in for a very long and miserable existence then. My grandfather died of diabetes (along with several other health issues including cancer) he was giving himself insulin shots four times a day and eventually became insulin resistant. As a kid the fridge was full of processed food and soda and he was widowed for 20 years. My grandmother helped him keep his diabetes in check so without her it was harder. He did live to be 87, but he would’ve lived a better life if he never had it in the first place.
Getting diabetes was the most miserable experience of my entire life. It hurt so bad that it caused me to change my entire way of life and quit sugar and start lifting weights and I got in shape.
I recently had to switch therapists because the whole reason I started was to deal with my binge eating disorder and she kept trying to convince me I didn’t need to change a thing. Even if I didn’t agree with my doctor that I’m technically obese, I hate the way my weight makes me feel (fatigue, asthma got worse, etc.) - my therapist shouldn’t be trying to convince me that I don’t need to get to a physically healthy place. SMH. She literally told me that because I’m mixed, my higher weight is better for my body. -_- She even shamed me for choosing an egg white wrap over a burger.
I think you will be better off with a keto, high protein, some fat, low carb diet. I have found that eating carbs such as oatmeal, bread and crisps, I cut those out my diet and no longer binge eat! Look up dr Ken Berry
The therapist thought those were the things you wanted to hear and as long as it helped pay their bills, they dont care if your obesity is hurting you.
My entire life I’ve hated people using type one diabetes stats to justify type 2, when they’re COMPLETELY different. I hate being lumped into it, especially because I was diagnosed with type one at 7 because my body attacked itself. I wasn’t fat or unhealthy 😂

@@itsgonnabeanaurfromme There's a reason they're split into different types. While type 2 can be caused by many things a major factor is weight. And if pre-diabetes is identified there is zero excuse to not work to become healthier. Even after diagnosis the earlier stages of type 2 can be managed without medication and just by maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Type 1 onset is much faster and must be medicated as the body produces no insulin at all.
Adults can get type one too. My dad at 40 who ate healthy his entire life got type one. His body attacked itself. But doctors were surprised because he doesn’t drink or smoke and was already at a healthy weight. He kept losing weight which was his only symptom.
Fat doctor UK is an angry and bitter individual. It's kind of sad. I would love for her to explain how she went from being determined to lose 40 kg to saying that losing weight is impossible and that there are no health risks to being fat. She is spreading dangerous misinformation, so I'm glad that you are raising awareness to counter her claims which are not founded in reality. Thanks for the video! ❤
They have an oath which it literally says "I will use those dietary regimens which will benefit my patients according to my greatest ability and judgement, and I will do no harm or injustice to them." They have beyond thousands of studies and factual information saying what obesity and a sedentary lifestyle will cause. So how are they not causing harm? Or are they saying as long as it doesn't harm you right now it's okay? They need to have these people go into wound care and take care of patients with gangrene form diabetes. That might give them a little reality check! Fun fact kids we don't just lose limbs from weight issues we can develop rot and infection.
I suspect some kind of psychological breakdown was involved, because they went from '40-something GP & married mum of two kids' to '13yr old internet edgelord' pretty much overnight. I've got friends in the NHS & the pandemic took a massive mental toll on them, as I suspect is the case with Chuckles here, but none of my NHS friends joined a literal cult to cope or lost their jobs as a direct result.
probably spent enough time in the online fat acceptance community. some people are just prone to believing ideas they are exposed to, especially if said idea justifies the way they are and would remove the need to change, which takes time and effort.
I am so happy to see people like this be called out. Body positivity/Intuitive eating had me gain 200 pounds. I've lost about 40 of that, but it's definitely the biggest mistake I ever made and all because I was fed up with dieting. :(
@@anguishedcarpetit means not calorie counting, not dieting, just eating as you feel you want to eat. Letting your body/hunger take the wheel and not paying attention to it otherwise. They say it’s healthier because you’re listening to your body when in reality you’re just losing control to cravings. It can be fine if you already stopped eating high sugar/fatty foods, exercise, and have a low appetite already, but that’s probably usually not the case.
I do think that we need to rethink diets since they fail so many people...i think you have to change your whole lifestyle basically. Congrats on the 40 pounds.
While I'm still overweight, I've lost 40 pounds in the last 2 years. (I have pcos, and had been trying to lose 10 pounds since 2009!) It took 20 years of doctors ignoring my health concerns because I was/am overweight. There has to be a middle ground. I don't want to be enabled either, I want my concerns heard and action taken when I'm unwell regardless of my weight. But enabling people and ignoring actually scientific evidence that weight is an absolute health risk is malpractice. I'm on my way to losing another 40! Body positivity is KILLING PEOPLE.
What you are saying is what needs done. To ignore being in these VERY high weight classes is perfectly fine is not helping anyone. The rose coloured glasses need to be off and have an honest "correlation" conversation.
yeah, i want fat positive doctors aka doctors who treat fat people like people worthy of respect while also acknowledging that being overweight IS bad for you, but also acknowledging that fat people can still be not well in other ways. NOT whatever mess this fat doctor UK is lmao.
So true. Similar issues, got my hysterectomy and hormones balanced and lo and behold, the weight came off. I eat about the same as before, I just try to be aware. I still have to diet and exercise to keep it down, but the difference is that actually works now. It didn’t work before.
"I'm a doctor so believe me" you can be a doctor who got straight D's and only passed the licensing tests with a score that scraped the very bottom of the passing requirement.
My psychiatrist heard my complaints about how awful some doctors are, and he told me a joke that rings so true: "What do you call a med student who graduated last in their class? Doctor." The one's that get top grades and glowing reviews from the people in clinicals and residency are the doctors we hope to get, but most people aren't that in any field of work.
The thing about these people is if they were truly comfortable with being fat, physically and mentally, they wouldn't be so pressed to try and sway everyone to their side.
In March 2020, I weighed 215 pounds. For no particular reason, (I wasn't thinking about losing weight) I changed my diet. I started eating way more fruits and vegetables. I got bored with prepackaged food and started cooking from recipes in cookbooks. My weight started going down. I realized that, without even knowing it at the time, I'd dropped out stuff from my diet such as potato chips and soft drinks. By December 2020, I was down to about 165 pounds. Two years later, that's still my weight. No starving myself. No frenetic exercise. I am occasionally tempted to buy chocolate and even give into that temptation from time to time. I don't, however, feel overwhelming cravings for the kinds of food I used to eat so much. It's really not that hard.
Same thing happened to me. Once COVID hit and everything shut down, I started cooking my own food and eating healthier (for the most part) and my weight started going down by a lot. I didn’t weigh myself during that time, but my family was noticing that I was losing weight but I didn’t believe them at first. Now I’m around 193; a whole lot less than the 240+ pounds (?) I was three years ago.
While I agree that making an effort is important, don't make sweeping statements like "it's really not that hard". It's not hard for you, but a few other are having a more difficult time. Some have severe depression and mental issues. A widowed working mom of 3 can't just be "bored with prepackaged food". This doesn't excuse all fat people. But saying it's not that hard because you had it easy isn't good.
the woman who said she'd rather get diabetes than be miserable, my first thought was "so you'd rather get diabetes, lose your eye sight, possibly have your legs amputated and end up with kidney failure" tf?
As a doctor myself, I must say it's actually the opposite. You're much more likely to get in trouble for telling the truth, if that truth happens to be seen as politically incorrect (or against the opinions that junk food companies and big pharma have paid your hospital CEO to have).
My last PCP told me she believed in HAES and I instantly lost confidence in her since one of the things I wanted help with was my weight. She's since moved offices and I have a doctor now who celebrates my weight loss with me. 57lbs down so far! 🎉
@@Richard.Atkinson I can tell (as the patient). Sometimes I’d be confused by how doctors I’ve seen would walk on eggshells. They’d be so careful about weight topics. Unnaturally sensitive. I didn’t even say or do anything. Yet, I can tell there must be enough others crying fat phobia and I suppose it’s gotten to the point of not talking about the reality. Even with doctors I’d seen forever and was well acquainted with, this was the case. Sometimes they wouldn’t even bring it up. I’d have to ask if my issue I was seeing them for could be improved with or could’ve been caused by weight. I was confused as a younger person, but over the years I started thinking they must think I’ll bite their head off for telling me my health risks including the ones effected by weight. That I must be part of this movement or have these opinions. I think the girls in college also said something about a Tess Holiday or some cover or movement and at the time I had no clue what they were talking about. It wasn’t as mainstream, but it must’ve been having enough of an effect to cause this walking on eggshells effect.
It's so frustrating that people will complain about their problems and then do NOTHING to solve them. If a doctor tells you to lose weight to feel better, then lose weight and it will make you feel better- or stay fat and blame yourself. My father was overweight and couldn't walk because his hips were bad. Doctors told him he had to lose weight before they could operate on his hips...kinda hard to do when you can't walk, right? Well, he went on a diet and did what he could, lost the weight because his health was important to him, and now hes gotten the surgery and can walk! It's not easy but it's life-changing!
There's a great video made by Ryan Beard, an obese person, about that. He said that doctors need their fat/obese patients to lose weight to discard the possibility of their fatness being the problems of their health. If after losing the recommended weight, the problem didn't get resolved by itself, then it's time to go deeper in the situation.
17:45 I finally found out where my dad got all his excuses from! He's adamant how strenuous exercise can shorten the lifespan or cause cardiac arrest, thus avoiding any kind of exercise. He discourages me for going to the gym a few times a week and my mom from long hiking/biking trips, because getting tired and sweaty is dangerously close to dying from heart attack or whatever. I keep telling him that doing a few squats is miles away from Olympic sportsmen going to the extreme heights of human abilities, but he treats sore muscles and shortness of breath as a sure sign of hurting oneself. My mom does light cardio and eats clean for decades now, and she remains slim and energetic in her 50s. My dad's explanations to that is "genetics".
I hate that. “Genetics”, ugh. My mom tried to tell me that there was no point in me trying to be on the skinny side because “that’s just not my body” and she’d “hate to see me strive for something I’ll never obtain”. In reality she just can’t put down the fork and if I lose weight then I prove to her it’s possible and she’s just making excuses.
So I am a 26 year old man. When I was 20, I weighed 450 pounds and had a heart failure due to my weight. And I am grateful for it- I got the wakeup call I needed and have lost a lot of weight- this morning I was 199.2. I share this because my doctor was candid with me that my weight was probably going to prevent me from living a long life. I fear that this new wave of doctors will tell the next person like me that they are perfectly healthy.
Honestly, I am thankful for fat activists. Sounds odd, but they really motivated me to work towards being healthier, I go to the gym at least three times a week now, and am working on bettering my diet. And seeing how uncomfortable they look, it just lights a fire under my ass to become stronger and healthier. And, three months in, I am already seeing results. So I am bizarrely grateful.
As someone who is obese, and in the middle of a weight loss journey that I’ve lost 50 pounds already from and I have a severe congenital heart condition that has literally killed me eight times that’s how many times I’ve been in cardiac arrest but I do a 30 minute floor Workout every night and I subscribed to a meal service to watch what I’m eating and working out has made my mental health so much better and if someone who has literally died because of their heart can do a strenuous cardio workout for 30 minutes it is possible to lose weight with your heart messed up
every patient should be listened to, but i’ll never forget telling someone i couldn’t do mechanized CPR techniques on their sister because she was too fat for the LUCAS device.
Thank you for making the comment on empathy for patients in the barriers they may face especially if sometimes it feels like some patients get dismissed to say it just lose weight when there needs to be multiple factors around to provide the framework to help them lose weight along with ultimately taking the plunge.
Man thank you for being and staying in the healthcare industry especially with how society is today! Living however they want and expecting the ER to have a pill to fix everything! I salute you and all the healthcare workers out there!
That mystified me, too. Smoking is a behaviour *which causes serious health problems.* Overeating is a behaviour *which causes serious health problems.* Don't tell me any of these people are sticking to a maintenance intake of 2000-2500 calories.
Who tf said that being thin=miserable like that woman in the intro??? Being thin/fit/not-obese is AMAZING. I feel so good inside and out with myself. These people and the excuses they tell themselves... Mind blowing
Exactly, they equate doing things that are uncomfortable and admittedly difficult, like sticking to healthier foods and exercising, as being miserable. Doing hard things is hard but in the end it makes people fee BETTER about themselves!!
Tbh I think it's because they became thin even once through unhealthy means. I was thin in college and late high school... because I worked out a ton, supplemented my lack of energy with cigarettes and unhealthy high levels of caffeine (hello hallucinations of the shadows in my dorm planning to kill me when the roomies go to sleep!), and I limited my solid food intake to whenever I was with anyone who was concerned about whether I was eating enough, in which case I chose my foods at those meals based on how much it would impress them. So yeah, I would gladly say that my experience of being thin WAS terrible and sad and full of depression and anxiety. But I would also admit as I did above that those problems I had were not because of my body size, though my dumb ass would have blamed the pursuit of thinness for my issues back then. Sadly, most people aren't willing to look that hard at themselves, though, and it shows with all these fat positive folks spewing their awkward and unfounded rhetoric to anyone who will give them a moment of their day.
dude, i've lost 60+lbs and i feel amazing. sure, i feel bad when i can't have a cookie bc i'll go over my calories for the day BUT psychologically people feel worse when they lose something than they feel happy when they gain something. homie is just experiencing the psychological pain of "losing" her fav foods, which is kinda sad if you think about it
I'm miserable but not because I'm thin, because I have depression. I eat what I like quite regularly but I have self control and I don't eat unhealthy things in excess. They're eating like 4-5 large meals a day and having a lot of fast food, I eat a high protein filling meal in the morning, a light lunch, and a heavier dinner, and I have maybe some chocolate or something as a snack/dessert one time a day at most. I'm happier with denying myself mass amounts of fast food burgers and chocolate and muffins and carbs that won't satisfy me than eating all of those things and gaining a ton of weight which would Not be good for my RA nor would it be good for my own self image or mental health. It's hard enough getting out of bed when you're sad, it's even more difficult when it hurts.
I’m on a weight loss journey. Dieting and exercising when I can. It’s tough for me. But it’s worth doing. I feel so good lying down at night knowing I had a good day to lose weight. I’d rather try and fail then fail to try.
My mom is in her 60s and was really upset recently that her doctor lectured her about watching her diet and to lose weight because her A1C was out of range. She's like ugh but I can't be bothered. It's funny because my mom was slim her whole life, and I was a fat teenager, and she would lecture me about watching my diet and exercising more (which she didn't do herself). Eventually in my 20s I lost it and kept it off. It was satisfying to hear a doctor say that to someone who always claimed they didn't have to know how to do those things because they were naturally doing it right... and now they want to ignore the doctor's advice hahaha
Mine is not at that point yet, but after two kids and nearly at 60 she did get out of shape. Also has high blood pressure. Doesn't believe the doctor anything, but hey, at least she gave me an eating disorder when I was a teenager 🤷🏻♀️ She always boasted about how she was so slim and fit. She didn't really add much weight, but I think she lost a lot of muscle over the years. Now I'm still trying to lose 7kg, but I can still live with the amount of weight I currently have.
Oh heavens--this reminds me of my aunt and her kid. Aunt was easily high 200s/low 300s and her daughter was chubby, but still growing and rather athletic at school. Me and dad would visit and my aunt would make her work out on the machine right in front of all of us before she could hang out. And yet, the last time I was around my aunt, she actually broke the folding chair she'd brought with her because of her weight. I barely saw her walk anywhere and she needed shade and was winded every time afterward. I'm sure her kid was overweight, but I was like "uh, lady, you really don't have much room to talk--why not work out WITH her?" They always lived in places with pools, but I barely remember aunt ever swimming in one.
Clothing stores a literally getting rod of smaller sizes to accommodate larger bodies. Bad life choices can accommodate for themselves but society shouldn't change for it.
Or it’s because realistically, especially true for America and the UK, ppl are bigger rather than smaller and they want to make more money, especially stores already being in trouble with ppl preferring to buy online instead of in store. They want to appeal to the majority and get ppl to come to their stores instead of ppl preferring to just stay home and buy online. Less ppl need smaller sizes so it does t make sense for them, monetarily, to sell mostly smaller sizes.
I've noticed this too. Its easier to shop in the stores for teenagers because I'd need an extra small in most women's sections nowadays. I've been a medium most of my life but now if I lost weight it'd be impossible to get clothes outside of the teens section I think it's good that bigger people have more options but are smaller people really this much of a minority? If so that's showing as a society we're failing our citizens. Glamour sizing is just putting a bandaid on the problem
I have chronic health issues. For the first time, my doctor mentioned that my weight is making it worse. He seemed almost scared to bring it up. But Jesus dude, it’s true and I needed to hear it. It’s a sad world when a DOCTOR is scared to give health advice
I appreciate how much attention you are bring to this whole topic , I'm not overweight nor am I healthy , I have a horrible sugar addiction and I'm struggling with changing my mind set . Your videos are extremely helpful and also inspiring, I don't drink soda anymore which is a new step for me , and I wouldn't have started forcing myself to cut my sugar down without these hard facts .
It’s interesting hearing this “doctor” say you can’t loose weight & I was 350 lbs & now I’m 290 lbs lmaooo. I understand not wanting to loose weight for yourself. But to tell people is not possible is CRAZY.
I have been obese. I have never had a doctor be rude to me about it. But it is their job to mention it, especially with my family history, so they did. 😊
These fat cultists have addict thinking. They can't tolerate anyone even mentioning their addiction. Addicts want to be coddled and enabled unquestioningly. They don't want you to intrude on their delusions with reality or concern for their health. They see it as a personal attack. There's a lot of overlap between addict behaviour and narcissistic behaviour, and these people exhibit a whole lot of both.
I haven’t had a doctor be rude about my weight either (I’m currently overweight but have been just into the obese category…still sorta on the cusp between the two). I have anxiety as well, along with body image issues so while I’m not as big as FAs, I do sometimes get self conscious about my body and weight.
I've noticed that IM the one mentioning my weight to my doctor's because I know I need to work on it. Not one doctor has mentioned my weight even though I am overweight. They look at my health markers like cholesterol and say I need to work on lowering it. I have never felt shamed from a doctor lol
@@pvrpl313 I was offered a choice. I could start on several medications, or I could try making things right naturally and lose weight. I didn't want to start on a lifetime of meds. So, forty pounds later, my blood pressure is down, my cholesterol is now normal, and I am no longer pre diabetic. Plus, my back and joint pain is much less. I have another 10 pounds or so to lose for vanity's sake.
I used to be morbidly obese (140kg at 178cm). I have chronic illnesses that started prior to my weight gain (weight started piling on about 6 years ago). So I have had many appointments with many different drs. I’ve never had a dr tell me losing weight will cure all my issues or refuse to investigate issues because I was morbidly obese. I’m sure drs like that do exist, but I swear not in the numbers people claim it happens.
I’ve came across your channel last year when I finally decided to do something about my obesity. I went from being over 300 lbs to under 200 lbs in a year. Watching videos like these helped motivate me to where I am now. I just want to say thank you for making these videos.
Not even overweight (anymore) but it's Amazing the change I notice in mental health when I cut out extra/added sugar, and exercise, especially when it comes to anxiety and depression.
When she said: "I am 2 years away from a doctorate... but grad school is hard...." Lol. As someone with a real PhD in Neuroscience, I find the psychology of science/fact-denial in the body-positive community fascinating. It is sad how people mis-represent or down-right ignore scientific research to fit their narratives - especially if they are "real" health care providers like that other lady. I am glad you are calling this out Michelle.
Isn't everyone a few years from a doctorate, and could do it if we wanted? She reminded me of the duchess in Pride and Prejudice who said of playing piano that she could have been a proficient, if she'd studied piano.
Going to college for psychology this fall and the thought of having to hold an intellectual debate or conversation with anyone who genuinely believes the body positive rhetoric is frustrating
@@somebodyelsesdog specializing in EDs should mean they should listen to you when you explain that over eating is an ED too. I mostly wanna work with children and families, so I'm sure I'll have plenty of ED patients
@@somebodyelsesdog but also I wanna work with mostly neurodivergent children, so the idea of intuitive eating isn't always applicable when your body doesn't always send the right signals to let you know when you're hungry or not
i’m a senior majoring in psychology & sociology and i’ve only had one (obese) professor talk about fat positivity & it wasn’t a very long discussion. from my experience i don’t think it has seeped into many college courses yet. you will mainly hear it in the context of treating everyone with compassion or eating disorders, not so much the scientific side, and it will mostly be off hand comments from a professor. psychology is very focused on empiricism so there is not much they would actually say about the topic as actual data and studies do not support what these fat activists are claiming. anyway i hope you have an amazing experience, i really like learning all about psychology and i’m sure you will be too! my #1 tip is to utilize all the resources that your uni has to offer ❤ good luck!
I appreciate your channel so much. I’ve recently hit my highest weight ever and I’m really freaked out about it. I went to a new doctor to be seen for the first time in 4 years, and my blood work was…completely normal. No diabetes, no thyroid issues, nothing abnormal. My doctor was super nice and encouraged diet and exercise and we’ll check back in 6 months to re evaluate if I need further assistance. Meeting with a new GYN next month to check my hormones to see if that may also be causing this, because I don’t want to live in this skin. Don’t get me wrong, I have the ability now that has some functional with my fitness, and I’m relatively strong, but I’m not happy with it. Worst case scenario, I’m hoping it’s not something like Lipidema
I was overmedicated by the State of New York to the point where my metabolism was damaged. Psych meds helped me for a long time, but now I cannot take ANY because of the acid reflux damage. I've been discriminated by doctors for being overweight when it was THEIR MEDICATIONS that caused it. I'm a gastric sleeve patient and once I had enough of getting sick, I left New York for good, never to move back. I eat a clean diet and I'm slowly losing weight again.
@@Michellemcd543 Thank you. I have since cleaned up my diet even more, and I stay away from fried foods as much as possible. I've had family members die due to obesity related complications, and that's 21 years I cannot get back. The UK doctor who says that being fat doesn't lead to health problems is delusional & needs an extended visit to a psych ward herself for such delusional dangerous behavior!
This is a real thing, some of these mental health medications do cause weight gain. I’ve seen it in family. Good for you for helping yourself to recover from something that you shouldn’t have had to deal with in that way. Big pharma is awful. Of course people need medications but sometimes the way doctors prescribe stuff it’s that they clearly just don’t care about the side effects.
I say this with all the compassion and sincerity I can muster. Seeing the difference between TheFatDoctorUK before and after their dive into fat liberation *really* makes me think that they experienced some kind of adverse neurological event.
Thanks, I think I found my new motivation for losing weight. I detest these lying/mentally ill, obese self publicists. Hate and spite will sustain me. 😊
The fat liberation "therapist" is honestly super concerning, I had a therapist who was overweight and she's never acted like this when we would talk about my body and ed and it's also weird she mentions like she 2 years away from a doctorate as if the 2 years isn't a alot
Not to mention she's acting like she can't be bothered to finish her doctorate. I hope she realizes that standards, studies, and theories change over time and the stuff you set down, say...five years ago, for example. Aren't always relevant TODAY. Can't always be applied today. Don't always matter today. A piece of paper declaring your accomplishment means nothing when your field demands ongoing education.
@@thatvalensteingirl I'm not defending her in any way. She's obviously rambling. but what you're saying is literally impossible. If that was the standard with all the research coming out every single day keeping up with all of it no one would be able to do any job or get doctorates or do any long term research. It absolutely requires constant education and learning, however expecting people to keep up with all of it at all times is a little wild.
It’s a common trope. They love the authority degrees give them but they couldn’t finish their program for whatever reason but they’re “basically an expert”. FatSaphicBro and Splotchmaker do this too.
I did have one neurologist who obsessed over weight to an insane degree and would spend 20 minutes of every appointment talking about. Some doctors can be really weird. I was like dude did you want to be a dietitian? Lol he picked the wrong field. All my other doctors have been pretty normal.
These fat activists are actually motivational, motivational in the fact they help me snap back to reality, stop blaming my circumstances and actually work on losing weight. I am approx. 30 kgs overweight and I don't want to live like this anymore. I am 1 and half months into my journey and I already see so many wonderful changes to myself and I'm much less miserable than I was before. I don't blame my previous self for not making any changes because I was going through a very stressful time at that moment but now that I'm finally out of that stressful environment, I can focus on my health.
My nutricionist send me to the phychologist because I told her I was having no energy at all. Turns out I'm diabetic. I wasn't even overweight, but it still haunts me to this day that I told her something was very wrong with me and she didn't take me seriously. Some doctors are the worst
Doctors often dismiss women when we talk about our symptoms. Doctors assume that women don't know their own bodies and aren't reliable to communicate their symptoms.
@@cosmicmuffin322 I don't think this is a woman thing, I think this is a bad doctor thing. For example I know a guy who nearly suffocated to death and his doctor shrugged and said "maybe you have long covivi?" After the 8th visit to the hospital unable to breath and his doctor doing literally nothing other than take his money, he went to a different doctor who actually cared enough to diagnose him and come up with a plan to keep him from dying. He's alive and no longer suffocating once a month thanks to a better doctor. There are some doctors out there who are only in it for the money and simply cannot be bothered with patients who have serious illnesses. Seriously, if your doctor is not listening to, or helping you, get a new doctor!
I love how these people say ‘thin and miserable’ like these two things are joined at the hip. I know plenty of healthy thin people and they’re not miserable
I had a boyfriend with type 1 diabetes and had it from a young age because of genetics. For that woman to compare her misery in being shamed for eating whatever she wants as being worse than diabetes is crazy to me. My ex was miserable and depressed. He was depressed that he had take many shots every day and tried the pump but it made him feel dysphoric and unnatural. It was sad to see and his mental issues and anger played a big role in our break up. He was miserable and he didn't have a choice in it.
I have a family member with type 1 too, luckily he has a very supportive family around him and is managing to keep his spirits high. He is a twig. He was a twig, he’s still a twig (he’s only 14). Comparing type 1 and type 2, is ridiculous!
I watched my grandfather die from complications from diabetes. I hope that she never has to suffer like he did. I hope she never has to sit in bed dying, watching her family mourn her in hospice as she's still conscious but unable to react/move just waiting to die. I hope she gets the true help and love she really needs. 😞 I could be insanely hateful but that won't help me mentally. So I wish her the best.
This actually surprises me. My mom was sick and I knew something was wrong, her former doctor gave her a slew of medications for her symptoms. When I asked, " what did he say about losing weight?" He said, "Well, yeah you could stand to lose some weight." New doctor calls me and tells me "She has to get the weight off, it's killing her." And proceeded to tell me EXACTLY what was wrong Hmmm
As an ex-smoker and someone who's actively happy while losing weight over the last year, this lady is hilarious 😂 just because you WON'T doesn't mean I can't 💅💅
I used to always say that obesity runs in my family. I've been overweight since age 12 to 19 with the highest i've weighed being 280 as a junior in high school. When I was 14 I had the same triglycerides and cholesterol levels as an overweight middle aged man. I hated the doctors for multiple reasons, but the number on the scale definitely didn't help. Recently I had to go to the doctors for a note excusing my sick leave at work and the assistant taking my vitals made a point to come into the room and tell me how great my vitals are. I had never had a doctor do that in my entire life, and it's motivated me to keep going. I started my second major weight loss journey Jan 2022 and am currently down 75 lbs. I care more about not yoyo-ing and keeping the weight off and to not only see physical improvement, but to have a medical professional validate that what i'm doing is not only beneficial but paying off really inspires me to keep going. I know I can be healthier and be better so in addition to my classic strength training I'm working on including calisthenics. I'm so proud of myself for being able to run a 10:19 minute mile (when I started I couldn't run longer than a minute) be able to do push ups, climb stairs without getting out of breath and finally be healthy enough to not have my weight be a topic of conversation at the doctor. Michelle I love your videos because it's so refreshing to have someone who used to be in my shoes tell me exactly how she got out of it and kept it that way. I didn't even realize that mukbangers could trigger binge eating or that I had a food addiction; your channel has been a godsend in motivation and just overall good info about healing your relationship with food esp with binge eating and how to hold yourself accountable when you fall off the horse instead of just saying "well i'm meant to be fat, there's nothing I can do to change it"
I just wanted to let you know, it's finally clicked for me!! At last I have found a balance in my life where in working out, studying and eating healthy/calorie counting! I'm 27 and so fat lost 7.5lbs and gained muscle! I'm so happy! My arms look bigger than my boyfriends and I love it! I'm so happy, I'm looking to get arms like you Michelle! Tysm for your videos, they really help motivate me!! Bmi is currently 31.6! Give me 6 months!!
My grandpa preferred "getting diabetes to being miserable". The last 5, up to 10 years of his wayyyyy too short life were far more miserable than he would have been eating better. He lost his ability to do almost anything- and he grew up incredibly strong and capable. He was in pain, his muscles atrophied, and he couldn't take care of himself. He died before he was 70.
She's so evil for mocking people by saying "I'd rather have diabetes and be happy" does she seriously not realise that diabetes KILLS? and it's miserable to have?

That woman who said "I have chose to be fat and happy rather than thin and miserable" is the most miserable looking person I have ever seen
The truth is that she is fat and miserable, when she can very well be fit and happy if she tried and actually put some effort in 😐
Why does she think she would be miserable if she were thin (a healthy weight)? More energy, less joint pain, less social stigma? Sounds absolutely miserable, yep.
And also being proud of choosing a detrimental disease like diabetes, not only is that disgusting to those who don't have a choice about that disease but also to the people who will footing the bill for your self imposed sickness.
FatDrUK is condescending and cherry picks information to an obnoxious level.
Fat Doctor UK spends all their time complaining on Twitter. That sounds like a very positive person if you ask me
As someone whose best friend suffered for years and died at the age of 40 due to diabetes (type 1), it's absolutely shocking to hear someone say that they'd rather "get diabetes than be miserable". Complete madness. They have no idea what they're talking about or how bad it can get.
It’s a really sad disease, it slowly takes more and more away from you. And she acts like it’s a minor inconvenience 🥲
I am so sorry for your loss
When I hear people say “I’d rather get [insert chronic condition] than adjust my lifestyle”, I tend to assume they don’t have a lot of experience with life altering chronic conditions.
I’ve struggled my whole life with chronic health problems. If there was something I could do to make them go away completely, I would do it in a heartbeat
Same. Hearing her say she’d rather have a chronic condition than just change herself made me cringe. It also shows how grossly entitled she is. Just like you said, I’d do ANYTHING to get rid of my condition and live normally. These people need a healthy dose of reality 😂
i know, its so disgusting and ignorant of them.
Problem has always been love ones around them also suffer.
It sounds weird but the fat acceptance group actually motivates me to stick to my diet and don’t make excuses. I can’t really explain it.
Sometimes the best motivation comes from the disgust one feels from watching the behavior of others :)
I finished this pretty late at night and saw I only had 5k steps on my fitbit because i've been sitting all day...literally went to the warmed up then hopped on the treadmill to do some sprints. all these people really motivate me.
Me too!!!
LMAO same here!!
Same! 😂 AITA if I love watching their “what I eat in a day” videos as encouragement to stay on track with what I eat lol.
The way she defends the sugar and fast-food industries makes me wonder who is financing her research.
Agreed: a legitimate doctor or scientist would disclose their funding sources. 😉

They’re also an addict. It’s like seeing a doctor with whiskey in their coffee giving a lecture and saying alcohol isn’t so bad.
I was wondering the same thing.
Very good point! She was more than a bit defensive at the mere mention of those industries
*edit 5/24/23 down 60 pounds and counting
**edit edit 11/22 down 75
Keep up, good luck!
My mom died at 59 from similar complications. I too had a reality check. Down 33 lbs, healthy BMI, cholesterol has gone from borderline high to perfect. Let’s 👏🏻 go 👏🏻
Congrats on your progress!!! 60 pounds is no small feat! 👏
i'm so sorry for your loss, but im glad it could evoke a change in you. i'm sure your mom would be happy she in a way helped save your life. keep going!

In some ways smoking reduces chances of death from cancer. Not because it’s beneficial for your health and doesn’t trigger cancer. But because smoking will likely cause you to die from heart attack before you even start developing cancer.

Yeah, but have you considered that extreme exercise is unhealthy? If you run 200 miles without rest, it’s actually bad for you.
Soo umm... that’s related I guess.

“I’d rather get diabetes than be thin and miserable” ..I don’t think people who are diabetic are happy and enjoys having it 💀
They’re happy until they lose their eyesight and legs and end up on dialysis 🙃

Well done.
It sounds like she has binge eating problems and feels like she can’t control her weight. Been there, got a therapist, my weight is in the normal range now.
Good for you man! After college I ballooned but I run and workout now could eat better though
you can’t change genetics but you can change your lifestyle to help manage poor genetics !!
Bravo my guy, that's an incredible transformation
"I'd rather be fat and have the risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc" has the same energy as "I'd rather not wear my seat belt cuz it's uncomfortable to wear and have the risk of unaliving if I get in an accident"
Funny enough, or not, very fat people don't use a seat belt because sometimes it gets really uncomfortable, or it simply doesn't fit them. During an accident, someone without a seat belt its hit with a force of their weight multiplied by 50. So a fat person without a seat belt on an accident? Dead.

I agree. But also remember that it takes a long time for people to lose weight. It doesn’t happen over night. So that doesn’t mean they deserve to be treated differently. You never know what people have been through or what they’re doing in the moment to better themselves
what about skinny shaming? how is that ok? I can't understand it and would never do it cos people should not be defined by weight alone.

It’s a short answer exam and it’s a basic level of pathology, however they did ask us about other risk factors as well.

yes!
Yep.

Very temporary because the feeling of being miserable comes back
If she wants diabetes so bad she is well on her way to get it.
As a 53 year old woman who was obese for years I can say with my whole heart, please don't get fat if you can help it. I'm not anymore, but only because having insulin resistant diabetes has given me gastroperises. Can't eat much these days. sick all the time. My stomach hurts all the time. I'd have rather dieted all my life than go through this. Lucky it was caught early. Can't be cured but it can be treated.❤❤

As someone with diabetes, a DOCTOR saying they would rather have diabetes than be “miserable” is so ignorant to me. Makes ZERO sense. What she doesn’t mention is once you have that diabetes, you absolutely cannot eat like that anymore if you want to live a long life. If you are eating the way you should with diabetes, you will have a healthy diet and lifestyle. Please don’t dismiss the seriousness of diabetes guys. Fat activism is dangerous and toxic. Believe science, not feelings.

RIght. Just know that WHEN you acquire diabetes, not if, you'll know what real misery is.

My cousin / best friend died at 38 years young, due to obesity issues. My man ended up with heart disease, diabetes, you name it… For those out there on the fence; don’t allow people to fool you into believing life is fly when you are morbidly obese. His last years were filled with suffering and shame preventing him from leaving his home.
As someone who has watched ½ my family be ravaged by diabetes and bad dieting it's crazy to hear someone proudly proclaim they want diabetes. Losing limbs, eyesight, random infections due to diminished skin healing isn't what I want for anyone
That's what she wants...
Agreed... have witnessed the same tragedies in my family and working to maintain healthy weight. Maybe they're just so young they don't know what they're talking about? I hope they understand before it's too late.
But why would you engage in a moderate amount of exercise when exercise has been shown to be BAD for you (when taken to extremes)?
@@fengari_leitmotifs it sure is
I recently had to switch therapists because the whole reason I started was to deal with my binge eating disorder and she kept trying to convince me I didn’t need to change a thing.

My entire life I’ve hated people using type one diabetes stats to justify type 2, when they’re COMPLETELY different. I hate being lumped into it, especially because I was diagnosed with type one at 7 because my body attacked itself. I wasn’t fat or unhealthy 😂
Lost a grandma to complications from type 1 when I was little. From what I understand she was TINY. I can't stand the lumping them together either, cause from what I understand she would have given almost ANYTHING to have a normally functioning body.
@@arianekelly2633 What do you mean "lumping them together"?
Type 2 diabetes has multiple genetic and HLA associations and loci. Type 2 diabetics have insulin resistance and don't have a normal functioning body.
Reminds me of another cult that appropriates the struggles of PCOS, infertility, the gay liberation movement, Civil Rights Movement, intersex conditions & women to score internet points & win the Oppression Olympics. 🏳⚧
One got her more fame and attention is my guess
Lying and being fat is a lot easier then losing weight. She failed
probably spent enough time in the online fat acceptance community. some people are just prone to believing ideas they are exposed to, especially if said idea justifies the way they are and would remove the need to change, which takes time and effort.
I am so happy to see people like this be called out. Body positivity/Intuitive eating had me gain 200 pounds. I've lost about 40 of that, but it's definitely the biggest mistake I ever made and all because I was fed up with dieting. :(
Keep at it!!! Glad you're making changes and hope all the best for you!!!!😊
What the fuck is "intuitive eating" lol
I’m so glad you’ve started on the road to recovery, all the best!❤
Body positivity is positively killing people.
@hespergamp - great work! 🥰👏🏼
That’s kind of scary to think about
My psychiatrist heard my complaints about how awful some doctors are, and he told me a joke that rings so true:
"What do you call a med student who graduated last in their class? Doctor."
The one's that get top grades and glowing reviews from the people in clinicals and residency are the doctors we hope to get, but most people aren't that in any field of work.
That's actually what's going where I live judging by the quality of care in my area
According to the data there isn't a strong correlation between a doctors grades in med school and real world performance.
I took the initiative and asked my Dr. for a Dietitian consult. That done, I've lost 23lbs, no hunger, no more back pain. 🎉
I can't think of a quicker way to lose your license than claiming you're fat positive as a doctor.
As a doctor myself, I must say it's actually the opposite. You're much more likely to get in trouble for telling the truth, if that truth happens to be seen as politically incorrect (or against the opinions that junk food companies and big pharma have paid your hospital CEO to have).
@@Richard.Atkinson Not discriminating is good, saying fat is good? No
Unfortunately the opposite seems to be true.

I doubt that ..
I've noticed this too. Its easier to shop in the stores for teenagers because I'd need an extra small in most women's sections nowadays. I've been a medium most of my life but now if I lost weight it'd be impossible to get clothes outside of the teens section
I think it's good that bigger people have more options but are smaller people really this much of a minority? If so that's showing as a society we're failing our citizens. Glamour sizing is just putting a bandaid on the problem
Mate, I agree to a point, but we also have to have into consideration that a size 46 (pants/trousers) its not the same depending the country.

So, forty pounds later, my blood pressure is down, my cholesterol is now normal, and I am no longer pre diabetic. Plus, my back and joint pain is much less. I have another 10 pounds or so to lose for vanity's sake.
That is the truth if your obese the only choice is to change your lifestyle or take a bunch of pills 💊
Fat Positivity Community: It's fatphobic to want to lose weight and go to the gym!!!!
Me: *goes even harder*
Fr though everytime I see this I'm just like gotta lift dem weights
"Omg that's so fatphobic you're saying you don't want to be like me"
YES BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO BE LIKE YOU
I’ve came across your channel last year when I finally decided to do something about my obesity. I went from being over 300 lbs to under 200 lbs in a year. Watching videos like these helped motivate me to where I am now. I just want to say thank you for making these videos.
That’s truly amazing you go rock star ⭐️
amazing work dude 💪
Way to go!!!
You’ll be schooled in HAES and “gender affirmation”
@@somebodyelsesdog specializing in EDs should mean they should listen to you when you explain that over eating is an ED too. I mostly wanna work with children and families, so I'm sure I'll have plenty of ED patients
@@somebodyelsesdog but also I wanna work with mostly neurodivergent children, so the idea of intuitive eating isn't always applicable when your body doesn't always send the right signals to let you know when you're hungry or not
JUST DO IT
i’m a senior majoring in psychology & sociology and i’ve only had one (obese) professor talk about fat positivity & it wasn’t a very long discussion. from my experience i don’t think it has seeped into many college courses yet. you will mainly hear it in the context of treating everyone with compassion or eating disorders, not so much the scientific side, and it will mostly be off hand comments from a professor. psychology is very focused on empiricism so there is not much they would actually say about the topic as actual data and studies do not support what these fat activists are claiming. anyway i hope you have an amazing experience, i really like learning all about psychology and i’m sure you will be too! my #1 tip is to utilize all the resources that your uni has to offer ❤ good luck!
May I ask your age? Most co-morbidities with obesity tend not to show up before 35yo.
Sorry that happened to you! :(
@@Michellemcd543 Thank you.
Oh no! Damn the State of New York! Sorry don’t mean to laugh it’s shitty
Your videos on crazy fat acceptance made me lose 15kg out of spite, thank yoooou
And it sounds like she’s not finishing. I’m guessing from what she said she wasn’t keeping up and is now blaming the school
"well I'm halfway done 🥺"
My doc is like that too, and she is definitely at least 50 lb over. I'm thin. Doc, please don't worry about *my* cheese intake, ok? LOL
Social media : Rise of lunatics and scam artists!
Thank you for shedding some light on this very serious issue, Michelle.
Fantastic work! Keep it up and stay strong you got this!
Do you mean dietician? Nutritionists aren't doctors.
@@darkydoom yeah sorry, english is my second language
@@brennipop7774 OMG I wouldn't have been able to tell 😮 Your English is soo good!
When I asked, " what did he say about losing weight?" He said, "Well, yeah you could stand to lose some weight."
New doctor calls me and tells me
"She has to get the weight off, it's killing her." And proceeded to tell me EXACTLY what was wrong
Hmmm
As an ex-smoker and someone who's actively happy while losing weight over the last year, this lady is hilarious 😂 just because you WON'T doesn't mean I can't 💅💅
Period as you should same here
Yeah, I lost weight by cooking myself real food and riding my bike. It’s been lots of fun.
@derp that sounds amazing ❤
Just got done at the gym seeing this pop up made my day even better!!!!
How are you now
My grandpa preferred "getting diabetes to being miserable".
