  • Today I'm going cuttlefish fishing with my Hobie Passport 10.5 kayak
I will compare 2 squid jigs. The first is the Seika Squid Jig VLP size 3.0 in black.
This is part of the series of squid jigs distributed by Tubertini and selected by size and color by the multiple boat fishing world champion Marco Volpi.
The second squid jig I will use is the Egiking 3.0 with Coral Trout orange coating.
These are Owner Cultiva squid jigs that feature a UV active cloth.
On both squid jigs I put a FullBaits gel, a very powerful booster for cuttlefish with a monster crab flavor and the addition of pheromones to make the squids unique. It irresistibly attracts cephalopods such as cuttlefish, octopus and squid. It has a strong and persistent odor that is very tenacious on the bait.
The Seika has a very strong solid black coat that has not been damaged except for the area of the muzzle just in front of the eye.
Conversely, the coating of the Egiking was found to be much less resistant to cuttlefish attacks, although these were fewer in number than those of the Seika.
From the price point of view, the Seika with 4.5 euros is in the economic range, that is that of squid jigs up to 5 euros.
The Egiking, on the other hand, costs 8.90 euros, about double the Seika, and is placed in the medium price range, between 5 and 10 euros.
As for the hooks, both squid jigs have an extremely sharp double stainless steel hooks setup. The Egiking one is slightly larger. Lead is shiny for both. Both squid jigs proved to be effective in catching cuttlefish.
Which one to choose? Well, for price, cloth resistance and effectiveness in terms of catches I would say the Seika Squid Jig VLP. Let me know your opinion in the comments.
Since I compared two different colors, since black was not available for the Egiking, in the next video I will compare the Seika VLP with another black squid jig.

I put egi lure minimally 40 cm above the weight. Sometimes even 80 cm above the weight. You put it directly on the ground haha
    1. Do you search on the grass, rocks, reef, sand or mud ?
    2. How far do you have egi lure behind the boat ?
    3. When you see the rod bending, do you twitch the rod to hook it harder ?

Hi Jure. I fish on sand. The distance of the squid jig from the kayak depends on the water column and the speed. I generally adjust this distance by slacking the line when I feel that the squid jig is not on the bottom. And yes I twitch the rod when I feel the fish on. You'll see more about the action in the next video.

Terrain that has mixed sand and grass is the best for cuttlefish. Here i have mostly mud and big rocks, so i catch maximum 3 per trip and lose one egi lure haha. Last 4 trips i did not catch any. It is very strange, because, now it is their time.
In dalmazia we have a saying:
"u pola marcha, sipe i orada"
In italian i think it would be:
"a meta marza, sepie e orata"

@@i1bike yes, now it's time for the biggest cuttlefish that come next to the coast for their reproductive time. When you have rocks the risk to loose tackle is high. One more reason to use cheap but yet effective jigs!
