Glad you’re enjoying your new bike brother takecare out there to many people on the phone putting makeup on eating a pasty I nearly get killed at least once a week !👍🥟👍
@@MarkSpry-s5s I haven't ridden much since before Covid, the increase in traffic and the poor state of the roads.. potholes everywhere, has been a surprise. Even going out at 5am on a weekend.. there's still lots of traffic about.. no idea why, didn't used to be the case.
Love mine . Has got even better with 2k on it. Made some bobbins like yours, made them expanding with a tapped bunge. Also did the same with foot pegs. Have a Myford ML7.
Good to know, its had its first service now, still waiting for a bracket to fit the flyscreen, dealer has the flyscreen, but Norton slow with spares. On the motorway I wish I'd gone for the CR with clip ons, as you are a sail in the breeze, but that's only a small percentage of my trips these days, so overall happy with the SP bars. Nothing has gone wrong.. yet. Yes, a Myford comes in handy..
Hi Bevel Head. I have a CR and I'm loving it. I was unfortunate to drop the bike whilst stationary in the garage. I feared the worst. I thought for sure the lovely stainles exhaust would be ruined. To my delight the rear pegs, which were folded up, saved the exhaust as they protrude just enough to keep them off the floor. Just a new clutch lever and I was good to go. I would concider putting a crash bung in there which should look ok.
You were lucky there, could be wrong but don't think the pillion pegs stick out beyond the silencers, at least when they are up? Been thinking about fitting front spindle crash bungs. Pity no one makes crash bars to protect the engine cases.
To be fair the OEM fasteners are mostly stainless, only wanted to make something as I'd removed the pegs. For such a low volume bike, doubt it would make sense to manufacturer special fittings/fasteners. Gives me an excuse to tinker with it lol. Next month Norton will announce the first of their brand new range, could be death nell of the 961 sadly.
Not at all, I think Norton got it about right when it comes to the sound level of the exhaust, pleasing ,while not being offensively loud. Wind noise is far more of an issue for me on a ride, therefore I always wear earplugs, and have done for many years. These days the silencers don't do all the work, its the catalyst that quietens an exhaust more than you may think. The silencers on the TVS Nortons look very 'unbaffled' so I guess there is room for more baffling. Though earplugs would be a lot cheaper..
I made them on a friends lathe, so tricky to make a lot more, though could ask him if he wanted to make a few. Or there is someone on FB who is making something similar. called ''Fozzie Forsdike''. There is a thread on the Access Norton forum about this with more details.. www.accessnorton.com/NortonCommando/2023-961sp-rear-paddock-stand.37986/
for the washers, if I did it again, I'd just buy a few alloy countersunk washers off Ebay instead, they come anodised in different colours and sizes. The ones I made are 32mm mm O.D, while the exhaust mount uses a 8mm bolt.
The cap head bolts are recessed into the 'washers', I prefer the look over mushroom headed bolts. One day I'd like to convert the bike into a true single seater, no pillion seat cover or pillion peg frame brackets..
A friend kindly allowed me to use his workshop to make the parts, so can't really ask again. However, if I was doing the job again, I may take a different approach. The easiest option is just to use a stainless penny washer in place of the peg, which matches the look of the exhaust mount nearby. Or you could use aluminium countersunk washers, often used on fairing / panels, which come is different anodised colours and sizes, while being a little thinner than those I made. Lots to choice from on Ebay. The bushes I made to go into the frame aren't really needed, since the washers won't be under any load.

To be fair I do about 350 miles a week on the bike! So don’t let me put you of Lee!👍

And everybody seems to be mad has hell with no patience

Well done - nice mods - Norton should get your advice on tidying up ‘lazy’ fittings….

Do you find the TVS exhausts too loud? I think they might need baffles for longer rides, do you think it would be feasible to add them?

I’ve just got the same bike. How much do charge for making a set of bobbins.👍

i would like those two mods for my new 961 but i am not an engineer, bugger!

Norton should apply your common sense artistic approach.
Mushroom head allen bolts would have looked even better.
