You don’t need to open your inventory to use health or stamina items just hold your skills button down and hit up on D pad for curatives and down for stamina

Yeah this is true, I personally like the pause effect of opening the menu though so I know I have done it in time, maybe because I'm on PC and its easier to just press Esc I find.

I used to do that until I died because I didn't have any healing items in my inventory and didn't expect to NOT heal when I did it. Lost to a dragon fight at lvl 15, wasted like 30 minutes. I'm hitting the pause the button now because at least if I don't have any healing, my allies might, and just 1 hp healing is enough to stave off a death.
