I have only worked with Aegissub to soft encode the lyrics, since my mother is a sign language interpreter, and I can understand German and English, I've been around the translating solely for others' understanding crowd. So, now seeing people like you creating more artistic subtitles to match the feel of song/visuals (however you do it), has been a whole new world and quite awesome inspiration for using subtitles in new ways I hadn't thought of yet! I wish I could give you some pointers with the customizing part, to help you out, if you were to ask, but as I said before, I don't know it yet.
