I bought a 105 gal. tank and put everything together with a spin on filter. Mine has that 12v but that works great for me. I also built a pallet on mine. Good job Mike. 👍👍👍❤️
I use a white 55 gal. plastic barrel w/ 12v. electric pump the inlet is hard piped into the barrel with the filter. Really convenient and easy to load it into the bed of my Dakota and get fuel. To unload I put my L3800 bucket flat on the tailgate then scoot the barrel onto the bucket, ratchet strap it for safety then put it where ever I want it. One-man operation no fuss no muss! The pump will drain all the 55 gallons out in less than 5 minutes, I know this as I times it and did some off-road diesel into my oil furnace tank. The barrel cost me $10.00, the pump came from Northern tool and it was $168.00. The 3/4" schedule 80 PVC I had for in the barrel. All else came with the pump but I did have to buy 1 - 1" SS hose clamp I think that was a little over $1.50. I made a nozzle holder out of 1 1/4" schedule 80 PVC that I also had. There you go, was a very low-cost project to accomplish, and have been using it here on my Virginia farm now for over 4 years. Still have no issues with it.
I got a 100 gallon storage tank from a friend of mine a few years ago but never used it. Yesterday I got with the program and built a pallet for it and just found your video this morning. With diesel weighing 7.10 pounds per gallon a full tank is 710 pounds, wow. Diesel fuel degrades over time and it does not take long either so keeping more than your needs require is not the best. I have a skid steer and a Ford 3000 but they are not used on a steady basis. Clearing snow in the winter and getting logs out of the pile to cut up for firewood is the bulk of their use. Grading the driveway to the house is another job for these two. For me 100 gallons is just too much so I won’t fill it. The down side is condensation occurring in the empty space which is really bad for diesel fuel. I think you made a good choice with the 50 gallon tank. I got mine for free so there is that.
Mike you should get a good fuel filter to put on your tank, you can pick one up at a local napa for a few bucks and save you lots of headache down the road with your tractor keeping your fuel clean. And with some solid fittings coming out of it you can get rid of that kink in your hose and it will last longer. Just some advice from a southern Ohio farmer. Keep the videos coming love watching!
Throw a grounding cable on it that you can drop out of the truck when refilling to prevent a static charge from building up as it is triple isolated from the ground as is. tires, bed liner and the wood pallet make for an effective isolation, nothing like a static shock as you remove the pump handle from the fill spot.
Its the same principle behind a Van de Graaff generator, you have a base that is in contact with the ground and a method of moving a charge to an isolated spot to build a charge then just need something to be an easy path to ground for the charge to discharge into. Filling a fuel can/tank in the bed of a truck has it isolated from the ground and as you refill it you have the most fuel vapor around so a discharge at the fill spot can ignite the vapor. A metal wire/cable bolted to the base of the metal tank that can touch the ground gives a safe path to ground preventing a build up from happening.
Thanks. And I understood the problem. It was the solution I was asking about. Thanks then especially for the second paragraph. So it seems the bolting to the tank could just be done on the base (where Mike was drilling the holes). But as for the part that hits the ground, do you have any recommendation for what that should be (to be weighted enough to stay on the ground while also guaranteeing that contact remains with the cable, right?) Also, Mike, if you're watching, can you add where you got the tank?
The pallet idea is good. You will need to move the tank and that will definitely make it easier. Having used hand pumps for fuel a LOT I would have went electric. However if you are OK with pumping go for it. You might change your mind after a while.
Hi Mike, good luck getting the fox. I had the same problem with one a couple years ago. They are hard to get. We lost over ten chickens before I finally got him. I was in only boxers and a t shirt the morning I got my chance. 12 gauge shotgun with number 4 Turkey loads worked great at about 40 yards. Take care my friend!!😁😁 Your friend Al.
Hey Mike & Millican. I watch your videos for hours! Foxes wiped my chickens out three years in a row, & started on the fourth!! I got a Great Pyrenees livestock guardian dog from a friend & put him in with my chickens & goats. Haven’t lost a chicken since! I have one male puppy out of a litter I raised if you are interested.
Yep here I am back in your neck of the woods, been over here about everyday in the past few weeks between Butler and Cheswick and Cranberry Township. Like the idea of a pallet for the fuel tank looks like it is going to work, and for that fox just keep on the job and you will get him
I hit a fawn when I was mowing hay one year. Cut a leg off, cut the belly open. The doe was at the end of the field watching it all. That was over 50 years ago still won't forget that.
They make a centrifugal pump with a hand crank that i believe will pump faster then the type pump you have. Also they are less troublesome. The old hand pump type you're using will eventually start leaking sooner rather than later around the piston packing. I always thought the centrifugal type I'm talking about you could takeoff the hand crank and power it with a 18or20 drill and fill up your equipment much faster and a "whole lot more better as granddaughter would say". Enjoyed watching, you have some pretty country up there Mike.
I'm looking into doing something similar for our tractors and equipment. What centrifugal pump would you recommend? I'm not familiar with them and don't know what brands/styles to look for. Thanks!
Hi Jay, i can't remember the name but i believe Tractor Supply has them. As i was telling Mike I've seen the kind he's using leak around the piston packing. They pump fine but after continuous use the leak. The centrifugal I'm talking about will serve your needs much better in my opinion.
I just don't brush hog in June, minimizes the chance that I'll hit a new born fawn. I'll brush hog in mid May, and then again after July 4th. I try to stay out of the deep grass during those weeks to avoid ticks and chiggers.
Mike just a add-on with little deer in the tall grass. Last year here in Nova Scotia a little girl was playing in the tall grass as the farmer was cutting the hay. He didn't see her and the mower/ conditioner got her. Despite air lifting her to a major trauma centre. She passed. The family was from Maine and up here visiting. Very sad. :-(
Hey Mike !! Great information!! Thank you for taking the time to share with us !! One thing you may or may not want is an automatic shutoff nozzle. They are pricey but you don't have to keep checking to see how much fuel you have pumped ! Just a thought. Again I appreciate you my friend !! Please be safe and God bless you and your family !!!!!! Eddy
My dad has that same pump by fill rite! Used for years to pump 110 race fuel for the pro stock race car he had. I have the pump now on my homestead for my equipment but it’s held up for 30+ years now! If it it built like my Dads was 30 years ago then it should last! God bless
Fox,skunks, neighbors cat(s),bobcat, chicken hawks(red-tailed hawks),coyotes, ol' Rover: all lined up to eat a batch of 50 chickens I had years ago. You hate to keep the chickens penned up in the chicken yard but man, every critter under the sun seems to love fresh chicken. I use to use a 55 gallon bbl and hand pump for fuel and then went to a 92 gallon tank and tool box combo with electric pump and filter set-up. My arm thanks me as does my back. Lost 2' of bed in my truck but it's worth the trade off.I've got 16 pieces of diesel engine equipment.... Also when diesel drops in price or I'm on the road and find some cheaper diesel it's nice to get all I can into that 92 gallon tank.
I have unfortunately hit a fawn and made me sick, poor little guy. I have a couple of 100 gallon tanks that I’d like to put on pallets. Mine are old ( back in the 70’s) so they don’t have a way to fasten them down, so I think I’ll have to make a bracket someway for them. Good inspirational video.
Mike, I also thought of a mini pallet when you mentioned mounting the fuel tank. First for ease of movement but more for insulation to eliminate static electricity when you ar at the pumps.
I like the new tank and pump. Let Melissa pump the fuel for you, I seen her pumping weights and she can handle it for sure, I don't know about you. Lol😂 Last year I had a red fox getting my mallard hens off the nest. I have cameras around the house and seen him coming and going over the fence the same place. I put up a driveway alarm and the next night it went off at 1 am. I had the gun ready and I got him. I don't know if that would work for you, maybe you could set it at the edge of the yard. I think it will work 100' or so. I got it at lowes for $28 and so happy I did. He won't stop until all your chickens are gone. I will send you the video of me popping him.
Mike I would take and paint the type of fuel ⛽️ you are going to put it in your tank so that when you go to refuel, whoever is pumping will put in the right type of fuel in the tank...⛽️ 👍 ⛽️ 😀
You can get power off your trailer plug. I use it to power my 12 volt pump on my fuel tank like yours. Just hook the wires to your parking lights and the ground wire. 👍😀😎
Pretty cool idea if you have a lot of things that use diesel fuel (or whatever kind of fuel). At the moment I only have my tractor with a ~6 gallon tank that uses diesel, other than that I have a couple of ATV's (John Deere Gator and Polaris Ranger) that run on gasoline. My thing is, I hate letting gasoline "sit around" long, especially if it's not ethanol free. Ethanol is a real killer of motors whether it's 2 stroke or 4 stroke.
I'm surprised that they did not ship a fuel safe Teflon tape with a fuel transfer pump (should be pink coloured). May I suggest you add some strain relief springs at the ends of the hose to eliminate kinks. You'll find the hose will break down fast at these kinks especially with this equipment exposed to the elements.
So jealous of that flat tailgate, LOL. Doing that on the tailgate of my 2016 f250 with awkward ladder handle bulge would not be as pleasurable. Thanks for sharing!
i need to upgrade my fuel setup. my furnace burns oil and i've been filling it myself for a few years with offroad diesel. i save a lot of money vs delivery (~40 cents per gallon) but the 5 gallon cans i use now gets old quick (i frequently forget to fill the tank, so i have to go out at 3am and dump a 40 pound a can in...). i'm thinking about getting a couple enduraplas tanks, a 100 gallon and a 25 gallon. keep the 100 strapped to my truck through the winter (serving as ballast) and the 25 gallon on a garden wagon. only thing stopping me is the $1500+ investment...
Great video, Mike! We don't have many foxes in Oklahoma, but the coyotes around here are problems at times. I imagine with the number of tractors you have, you need something better than gas cans. My little tractor, 2 lawnmowers, and 2 ATVs keep me scrambling with the small cans.
I was going to make a similar setup with a 55 gallon drum, but I like the look of the tank and baffles would definitely be a plus when in the back of the pickup.
Great video Mike we had a raccoon get some ducks last week and we never even heard them holler we did the same thing with a tank that we got from Rural King too we got the hundred gallon with the 12-volt pump and it's not too bad to move around with our small skid steer when we want to fill it up but I think I'm going to clean it out now that we have the Kioti and start using it for diesel instead of gas we just don't use that much gas anymore but great video keep them up have a great and safe weekend ! Kioti Curt. 😉👍🚜
Looks great!!! What that hose. It is kinked and you could ruin it. Wouldn't want to see you have to buy a new hose. A spring type strain relief might help.
LOL, no better way to ensure those metal speed squares stay perfectly square than to throw 'em on the ground a couple a times, lol. Sorry for bein' a wise guy Mike, too many years makin' a living with those tools.
I'm looking for a similar square tank for the same purpose. Barrels are too hard to secure to a skid up my very steep driveway. Mike - Where did you find this one?
I think in pa you can't haul more than 100 gallons of fuel at a time. If you are over 100 gallons you might need some sort of permit. I could be wrong though.
Quick question about the 5 gallon fuel jug. I can't seem to find the video where you showed it. I was wondering if you could do a video on emptying a jug of fuel into the tractor see how long they take to empty out. It looks like it uses a larger hose than other brands. Thank you! Keep up the great videos
You need one good stock dog that will protect your chickens and property. How ever a good stock dog is no family pet. I have one and have to put it up when someone comes to visit. And I also have one good family pet dog.
Love the tank Mike. Great choice on the pump. Less complexity and it will work anywhere. Not sure what the laws are in PA, but if you go with off-road/red-dye/aggro diesel you can sometimes get subsidies and tax benefits, because the state treats you like a farmer doing agricultural work.
Late coming I know. But I would like to see some of that fuel run through the Kubota. Any chance of a side by side comparison with the rk37 and the Kubota. Looking to buy and would like your thoughts of the ups and downs on both?
I really enjoy watching your videos. I just watched #175 "My Fueling Solution1" and would like to do something like that for myself. Could you tell me where you bought and how much the fuel tank? Living in NE PA.
Are the gas stations going to give you a hard time filling a container in the bed of your truck? For some reasons, I seem to remember them asking people to take the containers off the truck. Awesome solution and I would love to see a video of you going filling it up, taking it off with the pallet fork :)
That's because of the possibility of static discharge igniting the fuel vapors. If he gets a ground strap, as Andrew H recommends above, he should be fine.
Good job on reasons for your fuel tank specs. I totally understand protecting your chickens and it must be done. I have no chickens and love my foxes and promote their sticking around because they truly control garden pests like rabbits, squirrels and mice.
I just bought this same tank and pump, however my tank doesn’t have holes drilled in the tabs at the bottom like yours does. Unless you drilled those holes off camera. I got it at my local #RuralKing in town.
Is there some sort of indicator to show the fill level of the tank? If not, then, other than sticking a yardstick into it periodically, how can you tell when it's time to fill it up again?
Yeah, that works well for tanks without baffles, but with a baffled tank, the "hollowness" of the sounds can be very deceptive. I guess if you hit it at the exact same place with the exact same energy each time, you can learn to interpret the sound by trial and error over the course of several refills. Knuckles are certainly better than an external sight glass which has breakage and/or leakage risks.
I had to laugh with her joking about smashing her finger. My wife would do that also but be mad if I did it to her. I like you solution though. I thought about putting a truck tank in but don't want it all the time. I will be watching to see how you like it.
Really like that tank, I'm gonna work in the bush with my tractor and tha closest village will be 25 to 30 miles. Is there another vid with that tank ?Thanks
The decision of tank size is appropriate. The hand crank pump is a waist of time and energy. I don't have many regrets in life. However, I do regret my years of sliding on my knees on concrete without knee pads and unnecessary shoulder strain moving heavy objects. Any tractor that you use has a battery to start it correct? Even a couple cheep clamps for connecting would save you a lot of time and UNNECESSART STRAIN for very little cost difference with electric pump.
ok Mike - you still happy with this fuel setup? (thinking of copying it) -- I dont want a 250 gallon tank sitting around and I'm tired of hauling 5 gallon cans.....any changes you'd make from this video setup? -- have a filter on there ?
Ruger Mini-14 Ranch Rifle in .223 cal (5.56) will DEFINITELY DISSUADE those fox and/or coyote from attacking your chickens. There ain't NO WAY that a single shot bolt action is gonna do the job.
I bought a 105 gal. tank and put everything together with a spin on filter. Mine has that 12v but that works great for me. I also built a pallet on mine. Good job Mike. 👍👍👍❤️
highly recommend adding spin on filter to the pump.
Thank YOU for sharing part of your life with us!! That's something I never experience in my part of the world.. Las Vegas.

Good morning Mike.nice install.smart move.good thing you have Melissa and her strength to help when you need it.Have a great long weekend.
Andrew H Can you offer more info on that, Andrew (or Mike) , for someone not familiar with it? Very interested in this portable solution.

Grounding strap yes. Also turn the pallet upside down to protect the bottom of the tank from the pallet forks .
I just don't brush hog in June, minimizes the chance that I'll hit a new born fawn. I'll brush hog in mid May, and then again after July 4th. I try to stay out of the deep grass during those weeks to avoid ticks and chiggers.

Laurie Harding, oh my that's horrible
We have been having absolutely outstanding weather here in Williston North Dakota like you!! Thank you for another wonderful video!!
Those pumps are a pain after time pumping. Put a 12v on it and run a pig tail to your trailer light hook up. Same with your side by side.
Ya Mike that tank should be just the right size for your needs.....good thinkin....
Looks handy and versatile. Having forks opens up so many possibilities.
Mike I’m pretty sure I know you. I like watching some of your videos gives me some ideas to do around my place.
Mike I would take and paint the type of fuel ⛽️ you are going to put it in your tank so that when you go to refuel, whoever is pumping will put in the right type of fuel in the tank...⛽️ 👍 ⛽️ 😀

That pump seems to be very popular. Where did the tank come from. I’m going to also add in a filter with water separation.
I like it Mike , I like the pallet idea too , just got me some forks this week !! Thanks

Love to see the little Fawns and thoses dog they have rouf life .and your tank strap it more .
Love the guard dogs at the ready!!! LoL. Nice fuel set-up, I think it will work for you.
For a minute, I thought Stanley and Ruger were Pittsburgh's vaunted Steel Curtain Defense! He should rename them L.C. and Mean Joe....lol.
Those are two of three goldens we have, all different personalities but all have the same schedule, eat, play for 5 minutes, nap and repeat

Just as the saying goes
( with age comes wisdom)
Good job !
Nice set up. You can tell you put a lot of thought into it.
I see the guard dogs are at the ready over your right shoulder.
Looks great!!! What that hose. It is kinked and you could ruin it. Wouldn't want to see you have to buy a new hose. A spring type strain relief might help.
Great video! I liked the way you made your pallet for the fuel tank
Nice little fuel tender! should work out good for your operation
The smaller tank will help assure "fresh" fuel. As always, good job with the video.
Nice pallet idea, those dogs could keep the foxes away if they wake up! 😂
Looks like a handy setup ! Hope it works well for you .
Mike, I instinctively tried to blow off your drill shavings from the pilot holes at the bottom of the tank, through my phone. It didn't work.
Damn Mike, Goldens are the best apparently not the protectors of your back yard flock but as companion's!

Can't wait to see this in action and what your thoughts on it after a few months of use.
I think in pa you can't haul more than 100 gallons of fuel at a time. If you are over 100 gallons you might need some sort of permit. I could be wrong though.
I have that same pump on a 45 gal drum it works good
Quick question about the 5 gallon fuel jug.
Awesome idea with the pallet. That will make life so much easier to be able to pick it up with the forks. Great idea and execution as always Mike.
I recently got the DeWalt drill and impact set and I'm looking for a socket set to use with the impact drill. What's the set you are using?
Great
Love the tank Mike.
Nice Set Up!!👊
I really enjoy watching your videos. I just watched #175 "My Fueling Solution1" and would like to do something like that for myself. Could you tell me where you bought and how much the fuel tank? Living in NE PA.
Is it a double wall tank? I’m guessing no... probably would make the tank too heavy to be portable.
Hi Mike, sounds like you need some night sights to catch that fox. Have a look at my mates channel. It’s called Robin Foxer . Cheers. Rob.
I’m thinking that with all the attachments you can get for a skid steer, aren’t tractors becoming obsolete?
You'll get good use from your portable tank. 🏆
Sounds and looks like a great idea!
Quck question do you chip wood or what do you do with branches and trimming from firewood production?
Grapple and Burn pit, but also make some brush piles for the critters as well
I just bought this same tank and pump, however my tank doesn’t have holes drilled in the tabs at the bottom like yours does. Unless you drilled those holes off camera. I got it at my local #RuralKing in town.
It came like that with the Tabs and holes drilled
Outdoors With The Morgans I guess I can drill some holes right? What size are yours?
Yes Im sure you can, I can't remember right now what size but 3/8" or even 1/2" should be good I guess
That should work fine and no more of those safety Sally nozzels on the 5 gal cans.
In the first 20 seconds you can see a pair of eyes in the grass over your shoulder!
Is there some sort of indicator to show the fill level of the tank? If not, then, other than sticking a yardstick into it periodically, how can you tell when it's time to fill it up again?
Peter K, knuckle on the side
Can it be used for gasoline? Or only diesel?
Good stuff enjoyed that
looks like a sweet setup
Can you add links to the tank and pump? Thanks
Nice idea!
Do you have any idea of how much tank weights when full of fuel?
Have a nice weekend!
Portedadrien, I'd guess just about 500lbs
Thank for your rapid reply!
What is the company of the tank?
JOBOX, I bought it at Rural King and it was the lowest price by far $219.19
Thanks,
probably buy one it seems to be very versatile
Diesel I'm thinking 6.934 lbs per gal. . I Google it.
Another great one Mike.
ok Mike - you still happy with this fuel setup? (thinking of copying it) -- I dont want a 250 gallon tank sitting around and I'm tired of hauling 5 gallon cans.....any changes you'd make from this video setup? -- have a filter on there ?
Hey Mike! So, it’s 2021, anything you’d change on this? Also where do you store it in the winter?
Dogs out cold...lol.... 275 gal tank in your garage have company deliver it to you
Nice set up 👍
Thumbs up
Ruger Mini-14 Ranch Rifle in .223 cal (5.56) will DEFINITELY DISSUADE those fox and/or coyote from attacking your chickens. There ain't NO WAY that a single shot bolt action is gonna do the job.
Doe puts these fawn down at a given location then leaves to eat. She will come back and get them later.
yep, and she picked a bad spot right there
you will want a filter on your tank
What kind of tank is it? Are they easy to find? All the ones I’ve seen so far are drum type
Shawn, is a JOBOX square 50 gallon tank, I bought it a at Rural King for 219.99, by far the best price I've seen
Outdoors With The Morgans it sure is. Everything I’ve found has been $350 and up. That’s a great deal. Thanks for the response!
Do you purchase your fuel from a station where you pay road taxes or from a co-op where you can buy fuel for off- road equipment?
malamberson, theres a gas station nearby that sells off road diesel
My bet is that that hand pump will not be on their long. 😆
