I watched this during its live showing on tv 11 yrs ago and I thought to myself this was one of the best double routine i've ever seen, maybe its cause I love the song as well but these two girls did phenomenal job really, today I was searching for it forgotten the girls name so I kept looking and digging!! finally if ound it!! thanks now I'm feeling like i went back in time. Still LOVE IT. what happened to these girls? I loved their dancing.
I love awolnation sail. I decided to play it in my car today and halfway through I remembered the first time I heard it was during this performance so I had to look it up when I got back home. It may be the similar moves over and over, but with the song and technique, I think it was an awesome performance.
Both have had amazing careers so far! Audrey Case and Tiffany Maher. Audrey has several other dance videos on UA-cam and competed with Royal Flux on world of dance. Tiffany danced back up for J-Lo at the Super Bowl, was on television show about a dance team (can’t think of the name) and has been a teacher on the competition circuit.
This was originally choreographed for 3 dancers until the other one fell ill so they may have had to do with what they had. Either way it's an amazing routine!
you shouldnt be feel less of a dancer just because you see a better one. you should be seeing what they do well and if you like it enough, incorporate it into your own techniques
I mean, I love this, but I think there is an unnecessary amount of leg extensions/leg mounts. I counted at least 12. I think it starts getting old after the 4 mark.
Wow years ago when I watched this part I thought of the same thing: Janelle was cute and good at her belly dancing but NO WAY she can keep up with these two
I don't know why but I've watching a lot of sail choreographies this days and all of them wore from unknown people, that's the first one that I see thats it's from a professional, and I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I think that this is the worst I've watched. Don't get me wrong when I say this, they're amazing dancers and the choreography is incredible too, but it's not about dancing anymore, this performance isn't more than a product for television. I don't know, it's probably me.
I get what your saying, though I don't agree its the worse choreography, it takes a lot of skill and practice to achieve those lines, flexibility and strength.I think every choreographer has to ask themselves, is dancing a sport or a art. Especially in this dance. I like to think of it as art that has elements of sport, but this dance seems to have more sport than art. ITs beautiful but any gymnastic dancer could do that. My fav. was Lauren some season ago, physicality and expression at its best.
Actually Ellie, while you do have somewhat of an idea that's typical in regards to how people will interpret jazz and contemporary dance differently, when it comes to learning and performing each style of dance it's not so much what it's really all about. Jazz and contemporary dance can a lot of the time look similar, especially nowadays because of more postmodern routines but the important key factors to focus on differently between the two are the body, the music, the choreography, and most importantly the use of gravity. Jazz is very controlled dancing, it's very popular with modern tv dance because it is very upbeat full of energy and needs a lot of agility to go along with the amount of fancy foot work but it can also be slowed down with more slow and rigid movements, you see the most important difference between the two are to start with, in jazz dance the bodily movements are very sharp and tight and the way it will interact with space, it never gives into gravity and will stay focused within a specific area at a time, while the body can use gravity during a moment of being lifted up or going downwards it always is kept in balance, if you watch their bodies it appears as if they're moving with or pushing against gravity with an illusion of resistance, the other important factor is musically jazz is in a strict relationship with the music, the music does tend to have a more fast tempo and upwardly beat but it's the movements that are what's always dependent on the music and the story telling that goes hand in hand with it ..choreography typically is easier to learn as well but using free-style interpretation and experimentation is more limited than contemporary dance because in contemporary dance the music isn't restricted to one style at all and while the music can be apart of the story it's never in control at all, the movements are not limited or dependent of it at all, the body is what's in control of telling the story and the movements are what's really different from jazz as well, they're much more fluid and give an effortless appearance, the body gets to play with gravity and it can go within all areas of space within a small amount of time, there's a lot more ground work in the performances and the body looks as if gravity is picking it up and pushing it down with little to no resistance. Its as if the body will one moment lose it's center of gravity then just as quickly restore it...It is a bit more challenging to choreograph only because its typically more of a personal creation that's interpreted but there's a lot of freestyle so there gets to be a lot more experimentation also... since the body is telling the story the importance of showing vulnerability and emotions is crucial and it can portray many feelings..anger, sadness, happiness, love etc, it's not necessarily ways slower than jazz even if it does tend to appear that way but that's mainly because it doesn't focus on the same type of high energy foot work and fast sharp like movements... They're both beautiful styles of dancing
Heather Smith I have been trained in both styles, it was merely a very quick answer that wasn't thought out well. Your response however, is extremely impressive.
therewasanellie thank you, :) I was hoping you weren't thinking i was trying to insult your original response or discredit it, I was just going into more of a detailed explanation because a lot of people don't know the difference and typically only see it as your first response alone, I did jazz dance for 7 years and it's weird because I had a lot of difficulty with contemporary dance which you would think would be easier but I was so use to keeping my body controlled and tight and on count and balanced but regardless if you created your routine or music or movements all of those things are still always being controlled and contemporary was opposite, to try and do the opposite and just let go of your body and give it this freedom and fluidity and of course the hardest being able to trust yourself or your partner to give into gravity is an awkward feeling lol it's like learning how to fall and not instinctually try and stop yourself but instead you just trust your landing and your body to go where it wants to go
I have the opposite problem. I am good at contemporary but I have problems with Jazz because I have trouble with balance, which doesn't effect me much in contemporary because if I fall, that can easily be turned into another move xD
One of my favourite performances of all time!
They did 30 right leg extensions, splits, split jumps, arabesques and turns
Absolutely AMAZING!!! I can't get enough of this video, the synchronization between the two of them is fantastic, the dance itself is breathtaking!!!!
WHY IS AUDREY SO PERFECT UGH
I loved Tiffany but Audrey was the best
i will always love this routine!
This was originally choreographed for 3 dancers until the other one fell ill so they may have had to do with what they had. Either way it's an amazing routine!
welp there goes my dance self esteem lol
haha lol
you shouldnt be feel less of a dancer just because you see a better one. you should be seeing what they do well and if you like it enough, incorporate it into your own techniques
😆 they're adults right? You'll be like them when u get older
Love the choreograpghy, music, clothes everything. Best routine of the season :)
I mean, I love this, but I think there is an unnecessary amount of leg extensions/leg mounts. I counted at least 12. I think it starts getting old after the 4 mark.
It part of the style dances
I just can't stop watching this!!
This was choreographed for 3, janelle issis was supposed to be in this routine but she got sick..i think. But good job to these girls
I've watched this constantly for the past year, and I still can't tell who is who.
My favorite!!!
Awwww. Get well soon Janelle, the 1st Belly Dancer in SYTYCD History.

this is amazing!
i love the cut for this! where can i get that cut!?
I'm wondering about the same. Have you found the version with this cut? :)
Does anyone else feel like this routine kinda catered to Audrey?
I’m doing this exact dance for my show. Don’t worry it’s not a competition no copyright
tbh it was really pretty but it was just them showing off the fact that they can do their right splits?? just a lot of leg raising ://
and oh my oh my that move at 1:09
Chills.
lol. couldn't tell which one was audrey :(
+Patricia Silva and tiffany has the sharper moves
Can someone explain to me the difference between Jazz and Contemporary? :/
Contemporary is more free flow....you can tell from the music. Contemporary music can be just water sound or some people talking behind, or any kinds.
I wish I could dance like that :(
name of song please!
sail - awolnation
thnxs!
Showing off flexibility, tricks, etc.
I think that someone thought that Janelle just couldn't keep up with it.
Wow years ago when I watched this part I thought of the same thing: Janelle was cute and good at her belly dancing but NO WAY she can keep up with these two
anyone lese think janelle was planed to not be n this popurposw?
They werent very well in sync
This was a dance originally choreographed for 3 but the 3rd dancer got injured
I don't know why but I've watching a lot of sail choreographies this days and all of them wore from unknown people, that's the first one that I see thats it's from a professional, and I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I think that this is the worst I've watched.

Not enough extensions.
prob the hottest thing i've seen in a while

They did the same thing over and over again..nice technique but it was boring
Those legs!
God, Audrey is amazing. So much better than Tiffany. She should have been gone in the first couple of weeks. Great choreo.
Ih no she triped a bit..
no....
Can someone explain to me the difference between Jazz and Contemporary? :/
Jazz is more upbeat and fun, contemporary is slower and more heartfelt... contemporary shows more of a deeper message.
