Thank you so much for the insights, Sir! In the previous version of the GMAT, a lot of weightage was given to the verbal section when calculating the overall score due to the difference in percentile. Do you reckon that will be the same case in the Focus Edition?
Happy to help! Technically, the weightage given to the quant and the verbal sections was the same. Each contributed 1/2 to the score. In the new version, each section - Quant, Verbal, Data Insights - contributes 1/3 to the score. For a lot of test-takers though, especially non-native English speakers, the verbal section was relatively more difficult. This was especially the case with Asian test-takers where the average GMAT quant score was significantly higher. In other parts of the world, Quant and Verbal percentile rankings were more similar to each other. :)
The GMAT FE is question wise adaptive. The difficulty of the first question of a subsequent section is thought to be based on the LOD that you ended the previous section. However, it is also said to adapt from that point forward to how you answered the first question. So, the impact on your final performance of the second or third section should be minimal.
For now, yes. A 720 translates to a 665 on GMAT Focus. They both represent the 94%ile. Once actual scores start coming in and the GMAC updates its score concordance table, this will change. So keep an eye on GMAC's "understanding your score" webpage.
Hi, for an overlapping period of 3 months or so, both versions of the GMAT will be available. We will not know the exact timeline for this until the registration for the Focus Edition opens on August 29. But, assuming you are choosing a date within the time period when both tests are available, yes you will have the option of choosing the version you want to take.
@@Ar2358 That is correct. The registration for the new edition, called GMAT Focus, will open only on August 29. So what you have signed up for is the old or classic edition.
Yes. We plan to roll out our first GMAT Live Online Classes for the Focus edition from August 2023. Note: There is no new content added to be tested in the GMAT Focus edition. So, preparing for the existing version can be leveraged for GMAT Focus edition as well
525 is not a hard score to achieve at all. Approximately 65% of test takers achieve a score higher than 525. If you are applying for a program that specifically asks for that score, then it makes sense to aim for it. Else, we would recommend aiming for a 625+ score - achievable with an 80% accuracy or thereabouts. Of course, there are other factors that go into the score calculation - so 80% accuracy is simply to give you an idea of what to work toward.
I am planning to take GMat on september and apply for round 2 .Should i be waiting to take new test version or the old version ..? I have started preparing for
Unless sentence correction and/or geometry are 'no go' zones for you, I think you should continue preparing for the old version. If your mock test scores after your prep indicate that you have been losing points because of either of these two topics, you should consider taking the Focus edition. Have a tighter prep schedule. It always helps. Stretching prep to more than 6 months takes out the intensity that may be required to score high.

@@Wizako Understood, thank you so much for breaking it down! 🙂
Is it true the Gmat fe is now section adaptive? That the next section will start with a difficult question if the previous section went well.

If for example the cut off for a particular college was 720 in Old GMAT so it will be around 675 in GMAT Focus?

You get an unofficial GMAT score immediately after completing the test right
You absolutely do! The unofficial score can be seen on the screen as soon as you are done with the test.
