It was interesting watching you do a live build. Then having to poke the cables such as the fan cable and rgb controller to the other side. It would be interesting if motherboard companies thought about cable management before building a motherboard. Like having the connectors for rgb and other things on the other side you of the cpu. I amazed that cablemods has not gone rgb or you could print like linus media group logo on to the cables. I wonder if you mixed dbrand and cablemods together. I also wonder how you could optimise a motherboard to get the cleanest connections.
This is when I whip out the piles of paracord, the stacks of rolls of mil-spec teflon insulated aviation grade wire I got from my old employer when they shut down, the Hakko soldering station, the Chinesium hot air reflow station, and my old school wire lacing skills. Zip ties are so post 1970s! LOL :P
Of course they target ads... that's like the number one thing to do to improve ad ROI. They don't even need to 'watch' you... it's the video title and tags.
Linus, what about the pin matching problem, where some PSUs are pinned differently and will blow your system if the cables aren't pinned correctly??? On another note, I just today, did my yearly case clean out and management. Took me 13 hours for cleaning each fan (I have 11 total), oiling the fan bearings, moving SSDs to my small drive bay in the shroud, and remanaging my cables from when I added new stuff over the year. It's absolutely insane the amount of time you'll dedicate to making your PC look it's best. Also, I did notice a slight drop in temps after remanaging my cables and hardware.
I bet Cablemods marketing is toasting over a boost of 5 additional customers this month, After consumers seeing the price and all the effort to get the cables right.
I don't bother with cable management unless the right side is exposed (like a tempered glass right side panel). It's a waste of time, nobody is going to see it except you, and it just makes it harder to change something or troubleshoot when you have to cut all those little cable ties or unravel velcro straps. Cable ties can also put a huge amount of stress on cables, potentially deforming them.
Harder? With proper cable management it's easier. Cable are already where they should be. Motherboard swaps can happen in minutes since you're not chasing cables everywhere.
Loose cable ends in an open case (where you can't just tuck them into the power supply shroud) can touch fans and make noise from the fan's vibrations. Or, if they get pulled into the blades, you could wind up either getting a new fan, a new cable, or both. And if it was in your CPU cooler's fan, you might be replacing the CPU.
You're correct, you should clean and tidy cables on the front where all the fans are, but there's very little reason to on the back unless it's going to be visible. Just forget to mention that bit. :/
4:32 To suggest putting cables behind the motherboard itself is stupid. Really, really stupid especially for asthetics of a part of the case you're not going to see anyway! The risk of shorting due to the wire insulation getting pierced is extremely high. I've seen this happen numerous times to other builders and i've learnt myself this mistake. Even IF you don't use thick cables, you're still likely to stag the wiring on the solder points and short it just from putting it in. Or working elsewhere on the machine and unknowingly pulling the wire - either during the build or in the future when you upgrade a component and long forgotten about the risk. NOT a good idea. Stupid, stupid stupid.
Wow! I can't believe they are actually talking about this. Having worked on large mainframes, here are the rules to follow. Tie-wrap cable ties are a error waiting to happen. If you can't easily move the lock-tie then it is too tight and it will eventually cut the cable or cause an intermittent failure. Long clean straight runs are BAAAD! The induce cross talk in the cables and induce random glitches and corruption. When two or more conductors are in close proximity they will become magnetically linked and induce transients. Everyone say it with me, "Transients Baaad". Never run Data and power lines with each other. What might be a simple AC transient spike that the power supply that is designed to handle, can be induced into a data line. AC spikes can easily hit 75 to 100 volts just by turning off some item. These than can be induced into a 5 volt data line and POOF! Data lines under boards very bad. Not all manufacturers sand the points off of the bottom of the board. As time goes by plastics degrade and stiffen up an can heat up. Fans collect dust and vibrate and guess what, as the vibration continues the little pin like points can work their way through the insulation and POOF! All of these are bad for you and your hard won data.and PC hardware. You can even go as far as never coil a cable. This makes a great air core coil transformers. I have seen what happens to a group of computers that had one failure get induced into 4 others. Not pretty, very expensive and costly for a business that was down for a week. So all I can say is think twice before becoming a neat freak and making your system flakey.
Step 1: plug in power supply Step 2:start hooking things up and making it look good Step 3: get stuck on second to last and yeet the power supply into the oven
I spent a Saturday cable-managing my home theater cables. Wire loom, velcro straps, power strips screwed onto the back of the rack, etc. Everything looked great. 3 weeks later there was a problem with a Sat receiver. The Tech Support person told me to un-plug the receiver from the power strip. Something like 7 identical black plugs feeding a thick wire-loom of AC power cords and I had to guess which one.... Murphy's Law of Cable Management: Within days of doing cable-management, some part will fail requiring you to tear apart your careful wire job.
I thought I was one of very few who actually run cables between the motherboard and tray. Extra Pro Tip: RGB LED strips near the edge of the motherboard between the motherboard and tray look sweet AF! Yes, that requires running them BEFORE securing the motherboard too. Just inside the standoffs usually give it enough space from the edge to get a nice glow without the separation of individual LEDs. No, my components do no get any warmer, nor is there enough heat from the LED strips to cause any issues either. I ran strips behind my Asus B350 and my current Asus X470 boards. Both boards have run an OCd R5 1600x, G.Skill memory @ 2800 MHz CL 15 and a dinosaur of a GPU, the EVGA GTX 780 TI Dual Classified. Which I'm happy AF to say that I'm finally upgrading to an Asus Strix 1070 TI. Bought today at an awesome price (I couldn't pass up $350 USD) and should be in my rig by Monday. I know the person I'm buying it from and I'm the IT that works on his rig. I just have to wait on him to get his 1080 TI. :-)

Thx you have inspired me to build my own gaming pc for my 12 birthday i have been watching you for a few months keep up the great work
You've pulled the "Thanks for watching..." ending early gag too many times now. Give your writers some coffee.
i think Linus is the only youtuberIi know that promotes you to click dislike if you didn't like it. that shows that he's actually accepting to criticism
377 $ on cables, woa...
I thought that was a bit crazy too!
I can get a full set for 50$
- 24 Pin ATX Extension Cable x 1
- 4 + 4 Pin EPS Cable x 1
- 8 Pin PCI-e Cable x 2
- 6 Pin PCI-e Cable x 2
- 24 Pin Cable Comb x 4
- 8 Pin Cable Comb x 12
- 6 Pin Cable Comb x 8
It has alot of colors but sadly you can't customize it
God this is so much better than recent content. Still love these guys though.
LOL :P
I got a cable management ad when watching this
JoeyLovesTrains the who thing is a cable management ad...
Of course they target ads... that's like the number one thing to do to improve ad ROI. They don't even need to 'watch' you... it's the video title and tags.
JoeyLovesTrains I got an ad that tells me I should attend this guys business class so I can make $343 a day
Linus, what about the pin matching problem, where some PSUs are pinned differently and will blow your system if the cables aren't pinned correctly??? On another note, I just today, did my yearly case clean out and management. Took me 13 hours for cleaning each fan (I have 11 total), oiling the fan bearings, moving SSDs to my small drive bay in the shroud, and remanaging my cables from when I added new stuff over the year. It's absolutely insane the amount of time you'll dedicate to making your PC look it's best. Also, I did notice a slight drop in temps after remanaging my cables and hardware.

Cable mods is a very respectable sponsor.
We appreciate the kind words, thank you!
"Yes- I've bee putting this off for ages, I'm gonna do this!"
Sees $377
Umm... 😒
I bet Cablemods marketing is toasting over a boost of 5 additional customers this month, After consumers seeing the price and all the effort to get the cables right.

You guys should update this video
I don't bother with cable management unless the right side is exposed (like a tempered glass right side panel). It's a waste of time, nobody is going to see it except you, and it just makes it harder to change something or troubleshoot when you have to cut all those little cable ties or unravel velcro straps. Cable ties can also put a huge amount of stress on cables, potentially deforming them.
just don't tie them too tight
so you would rather spend time untangling spaghetti
Tbh i needed this

To suggest putting cables behind the motherboard itself is stupid.
Why is the code "BYECOLTON"?
Andrew P I was wondering that too
maybe because he's making that joke for ages now?
CABLE MANAGEMENT = LIFE
Its ok i just downloaded some cable management
"I was russhin" Hahahahhaha
He was Russian? 🤔🤔
This is really going to come in handy thanks guys.
I hate how into this I am
NEW, SWEET! This posted while i was chillin to wan show with dennis.
BRING BACK NICKY V!!!
Watching him organize his cabels was oddly satisfying....
Microsoft aproves that downloading ram increases performance by 35%
Pro tip, get rid of anything like Molex and SATA in your rigs, just get NVMe and the bare needed stuff for pump power etc.
Step 1: plug in power supply
Step 2:start hooking things up and making it look good
Step 3: get stuck on second to last and yeet the power supply into the oven
I spent a Saturday cable-managing my home theater cables. Wire loom, velcro straps, power strips screwed onto the back of the rack, etc. Everything looked great. 3 weeks later there was a problem with a Sat receiver. The Tech Support person told me to un-plug the receiver from the power strip. Something like 7 identical black plugs feeding a thick wire-loom of AC power cords and I had to guess which one.... Murphy's Law of Cable Management: Within days of doing cable-management, some part will fail requiring you to tear apart your careful wire job.
And the last issue:

Before even clicking the video I knew it was a sponsored video from cablemod. Linus is the type of guy to sell his soul for money and fame lol
377 Canadian rubles ?! Yeah... no.
I think it’s USD
Oh yeah, you're right... that makes it even worse.
Instructions unclear: Cables literally disappeared
cableless
Just put my machine together last week.
Where the heck were you guys with this then! Lol
Sweet vid, thanks for the content.
Cheers.

THANKS LINUS! NO MORE "GAME 1" FEELINGS ON MY DESKTOP NOW
"... Cable manage like a pro." I've seen pros do cable management on my work desk the other day... It was awful.
Thanks Linus, watched the video and found it most helpful.
