- Today I'm sharing a very special walk-through of my Mom's 2020 December Daily® album that she's been working on for the last few months. My Mom generously gave me permission to share her album here - it's a wonderful example of a words + photos focused album that is really rooted in the season of my parents lives at this point in time. Her and my Dad's writing is something I will treasure forever.

What a gift. The love that you have for your parents just radiates. Your Mom reminded us all that it isn’t about the “stuff” but the stories.
I think this is simply amazing.

What a treasure. I wish I had had my mother write things down a few years ago. She just turned 81 and can't remember a lot of things anymore. I know there are stories behind our Christmas traditions and they are lost now. I'm so sad about that. I need to journal Christmas traditions for my own children so they will have that when I no longer remember.

Patti - This collection embraces all the love you have in your life. Your gratitude shines through. You’ve inspired me to showcase the cross stitch I have also. My mother stitched the Santa ME for me too. I also have the ME alphabet and numbers that were stitched for my daughter as a young child. I have many Prairie Schooler Santas. They are arranged in triptych frames. My dad made a large metal star, with lights on the tips for X-mas. So many treasures from a crafty family. Thank you for sharing Patti & Ali. It was a delight!

Thank You so much for sharing Ali! I echo so many of the comments. This is one of the most inspiring videos I’ve seen. I recently found your channel in December 2021. I recently became a “pseudo” empty nester with both girls off to college. I use to scrapbook in the late 90’s/early 00’s, but it became overwhelming and I just stopped. Now with the girls away, I want to document and tell the stories. That’s when I found your December Daily videos 😊. I love paper crafting, but with so many ideas, it can get overwhelming. I’ve saved this video so I can watch it over again and again. Your family is beautiful and it gives me inspiration to focus on the story. Bless you 🥰

What a treasure!!
This is the second time I have watched this video and it is just delightful. First, it captures the heart of the December Daily project. And it doesn't mean it has to be done in December it just needs to be told! I came and watched the second time because it also captures the heart of Week In the Life - the everyday documenting. The handwriting, the cross stitch Santas, the details (oh the details)....such a treasure.

I especially loved this walk through as I’m the approximate age of your parents with a love of cross stitch, which also began in the 80’s and married 52 years. I documented my granddaughters first 10 years with Project Life. So you know stories are very important to our family. Last year our daughter gifted us with a StoryWorth subscription to tell our stories when we were growing up. Your mom’s December Daily has resonated so very much with me and has given me an idea for a gift to our daughter & granddaughter for next Christmas. My husband is the greatest writer/story teller so he will be an import voice in our book, as was your Dad. Thank you so much for sharing her book! I know if we lived on the Oregon coast we would be the best of friends with your parents!
Wow wow wow, Amazing. This is so Amazing. Your mother is truly the Queen of Storytelling + blending the traditional (the good old days Style scrapbooking) in the New Style format. Brilliant. The way she tells these amazing stories are just AMAZING. Visually, she let's you know what the story is about. Then she goes in detail in her Journaling. You say that this is not a crafty album. Maybe not in the ways like the modern techniques, but this is a balanced, crafty, well-thought-out, filled with emotions way of storytelling, I was so afraid we were losing it. Thank your mom & dad for me. And I would love to see more of her work. If she would like to share it with us ofcourse. Sending much love and especially my prayers for their health. 💯❤🙏❤

Ali, your Mum and Dad have truly created a gift like no other. Many years ago, I emailed you because I was divorced, single (with no children) and had bought a small house in the country and I really wanted to do my first DD. I was so concerned because I thought that I would have nothing to document. But you encouraged me and said that the stories will come. And you were right. I told told the story of my life that December, and it gave me such hope and a window into my life, that season of life. So, hearing you talk about the ‘season of life’ that your parents are in now, it’s very special for me to hear. No matter which season of life we are in, there are always stories to tell and photographs to be taken and documented. Your parents obviously have great love between them, their family, friends, the outdoors, where they live, what they do and it’s all laid out so beautifully. I especially love her documenting the cross stitching. Those stories are the ones that are small but they are SO important. Your Mum has very beautiful handwriting, just as you do. It’s easy to see where you get your wonderful storytelling from. Your parents both have that gift. Thank you so much for sharing this with this community. Christine
Oh this is just lovely. I haven’t done December Daily before since my kids are grown but I love the idea of going back and just recording the traditions we’ve always done in the past and why and include recipes etc. given me lots of ideas and things to think about - thank you!

Ali, I watched this video twice and I seriously do not know how you got through this without crying . . .I was crying!!! The words, the stories and the LOVE that your Mom put into the album are just priceless. This made me really want to write stories - instead of just captions - in my December Daily Albums and in my general scrapbook albums. Sharing this has given me some wonderful ideas to use in my December Daily albums in the future. This was absolutely wonderful and perfect in every way and I thank your Mom for letting you share this beautiful album with us. We all see that you get your love of stories from your mom. What a beautiful gift . . . and now I'm crying again!! Thank you for sharing. Thank you, always, for your continued inspiration.
Thank you for sharing with us! I did my first one this year and as a 66 year old grandmother have come to realize how special our stories are. BTW, my husband and I spent about two weeks in Coos Bay camping near Light House Beach. What a wonderful area it is. I’m looking forward to returning in the future.

This is a great reminder to focus on the stories- it’s easy to get caught up in wanting to do all of the things and lose sight of what’s important. I started my first December Daily in 2020 and haven’t finished- this has inspired me to just get it done already :)
Me too! I worked on mine some today and I so need to focus more on the writing. When I was young I used to think of myself as a writer and I've so lost that in my working years.

What an amazing love letter to your family. This is such a treasure and a gift. I got emotional as you were talking and flipping through this. My parents are older now and they mean the world to me. Thankfully, my mom is a scrapbooker so many of the stories of our childhood, etc are documented, but I don't think there is much (if anything) about my parents' life as individuals or as a couple (they've been married 53 years). This is such a GOOD reminder to document ourselves. I do a lot of that in my story telling and I'm hoping that my son will find it to be as big of a gift as I would if I had the story of my parents' life. Thank you to you and your parents for sharing this with us.

I am so very thankful that you shared this wonderful album your Mom put together. I am approximately the same age as your parents, with a love of cross stitch that began in the 80’s, love of the outdoors, have two homes, one on a lake. And who appreciate the stories told in memory keeping. In fact I documented the first 10 years of my granddaughter’s life with Project Life. It was so rewarding to me when as a 2 year old she would often ask me to put her book on the ottoman so she could look through it. I had the pleasure of caring for her daily her first 2 years and one of my most treasured books is the one I gave my daughter after her daughter’s first year of life. In the book I documented many stories and had at least one picture a week of her first year. This album now gives me an idea for a gift for 2022! My husband is a great story teller so he will definitely be a part of this book I plan to make. I know if we lived on the Oregon coast we’d be friends with your parents! Loved your Mom’s album!

This was so fun for me to see. I am about the same age as your mother. I have been following you for just a few years. Bought some product. Kept notes for about 3 Christmas seasons. Wrote a story or two but can’t seem to make the first step. I love her documentation and yours as well. Get ideas and inspiration. Now I need to take a first step in action. This is a beautiful album. What a keepsake for her family. I have done lots of cross-stitch and am in awe of this collection. So much work! It is beautiful! Love all the stories! We live in Salem so feel a connection to you all. I see we ( your parents and us) were married in 1970 and "celebrated" our 50th in 2020, the year of Covid lock-down. I did an albums on that.. I just recently discovered your channel. So enjoying it all. I purchased an album and am collecting pictures and etc. for my first December daily. ❤

that was so beautiful Ali, thanks for sharing! I feel the same way of wanting to have my parent's stories...especially as I get older and my memory isn't what it used to be (even at 44, as I forget what I was going to get from the pantry 2 minutes earlier lol!). B/c my mom was alone at Christmas last year b/c of covid, I wrote out a prompt a day related to Christmas to have her write out some of her stories and I was so grateful she took the time to do it...it's something I will keep always and now my kids will have too and they can hear her voice in each story.

Oh Ali ! I can’t with this. I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT This it’s her stories and her memories and it’s so special. The crafter in me loved all of her crafts especially the cross stitching!
This is so fabulous! The amount of time and care put into all of her Christmas cross stitch is amazing. I love how she took the time to photograph all of them. Flowers in the yard in December is such a treasure.....as I am currently sitting under a foot of snow that fell yesterday and it's brutally cold out so I love seeing flowers this time of year. I had no idea you could grow poinsettias outdoors in the top half of the country! The crab/fishing story from your dad is really cool. Sounds like they live in a beautiful area with such a variety of nature from animals, sea life, birds, and flowers. Really love this approach to December Daily. What an incredible gift you have continued to give to each other, Ali….the importance of “gifting” not things; but rather love and tradition of the family moments that truly matter. Your mom’s album is a treasure for sure! And to have had her put all those words to pen/paper is so magical…yet it could be you, who inspired that in her - or was that her in you?
