Les Oakes - A celebration of his life
Les died as he lived - a man, who always lived flat out to fill every day with 24 hours of life.
He was a dealing man, Heavy Horse showman, collector, architectural conservationist, philanthropist, a celebrity amongst his peers. In short he was a giant of a man.
Thousands lined the streets of his hometown Cheadle on the day of his funeral.
Every one of those present would refer to Les as one of their best friends.
He was held in fearful dread by bureaucrats especially planners, and men in suits, but most of them secretly admired and envied Les his freeborn ways.
Auctioneers knew that if Les was in the bidding room it was going to be an entertaining, though challenging day.

I never knew or met Les but my wife and I had the absolute privilege of viewing his collection/legacy - many thanks Dave, we’ll never forget the marvels we saw that day, god bless you all
