  • RepelWell is a spray-on fabric protector. Today I put it to the test on a variety of fabrics to see how it works.

    It’s amazing to watch these videos ,to know what’s out there cause most of the time I don’t see these things due to being in Canada. I’ve never even heard of this product but I’m sure it will come here in a couple months. Now I won’t have to look for it cause it doesn’t sound like anything I want to try now. Thank you for saving me some money.😋

    I wonder if spraying more of the product on the t-shirt and the pillowcase would have given you better results. It looks difficult to tell whether you actually got good coverage on the material with no missed spots. I would like to see you put ketchup or mustard on treated Fabric, and then try to wipe it off immediately. I'm curious whether or taking the condiment off immediately, before it has a chance to soak in, has any different results. Great videos, thank you!

    I think you should have saturated the fabric more with the spray maybe it would work better, who knows

    Great job with the testing to try and give the product the best chance of working. The brown pillow fabric may have been treated with a repellant from the factory. It seems like the benefit you get on the other fabrics doesn't justify the cost except maybe for the non-porous shoes.

    • @Freakinreviews
      @Freakinreviews  6 років тому +3

      Good point on the pillow! I originally tried a scrap of carpet, but realized it already had a repellant, too. It definitely works on some fabrics.

    Great demo as usual. I just wanted to say I have the 8 oz bottle of the Australian brand. I actually bought 4 of them because they were 4.99 a bottle on sale. I have only used it on my coats to repel the rain and it works great. Also, I used it on chair cushions and they are still clean. I didn’t dare to test it like you did lol. Keep the demos coming.

    Try using it on your car seats if its cloth and or the carpeted floor mats. I've used both fabric guard 303 and Scotchgard, they both work amazingly. For best results, try leaving the treated items in the sun for several hours and reapply once more before testing with water. Good luck and keep up the great work!

    On your final "white t-shirt" test it seems to work pretty well. In my opinion the question is not whether the ketchup just slides off, but if it is absorbed. I also wonder if there my be some "user error" in the application. LOL

    I don't know of any brands that carry a widely applicable hydrophobic material, but the idea is certainly real. Making it a reliable nontoxic spray seems to be hard, though.

    Didn't seem to be worth the money to me... and to have to put it on the fabric then wait 24 hours or more just to wear once then have to reapply after washing?? No thanks...
    for the shoes, the smear on then heat up candle wax trick may work better and much cheaper. ?

    wonder what would happen if he soaked the white t-shirt in repel well and then let it dry, as a final literally dumping the bottle onto the shirt letting it soak for 10 minutes or so then drying it so it penetrates the fabric.

    I’m wondering how it came out in the washer. Did the treaded side come clean or at least cleaner than the untreated side. Also I’m wondering how the treatment holds up to washing machine. Does it need treating after washing or does it last.

    RepelWell seems expensive and it didn't look like it protected the fabrics very well. I'd like to see a comparison between RepelWell and Scotchgard. I've used Scotchgard on occasions and have gotten very good results with it for liquids and fair results with grease and oil based stains. Plus I think Scotchgard is cheaper. Scotchgard does have a smell when you use it goes away.

    These product work by increasing the surface tension of the fabric that it is applied. Therefore, once the surface tension is compromised they do not work as well. It seemed to me that the sticking was much worse after you poured water on the shirt corrupting the surface for further testing.. I suspect that to do a real test that you would need to use a clean treated shirt for each test. After all you'd have to be a real klutz to pour water, wine, ketchup, mustard and salad dressing on yourself at the same meal. IMHO
