  • Thomas Hill drives into the paint in the closing seconds of the game: creating a high percentage shot, drawing the help and giving Christian Laettner room to crash the boards. After Laettner made his free throws, U.N.L.V. could only force a long Anderson Hunt shot as time expired,

    The ending slays me. UNLV calls time out and comes out with THAT set? Like TARK could coach a defense but could not draw up one play knowing his personnel to make them succeed. I understand Greg Anthony had fouled out but honestly UNLV was checkmated when LJ had the ball and Laettner fronted him. It's like they had no plan B if LJ didn't have a shot.

    Those UNLV teams were awesome to see back in the day …one of my favorite teams all time, college or pro. Still shocked they lost, but in retrospect, Duke had the best player on the floor in Grant Hill … we just didn’t wanna believe it.

      @@blessedvirginmaryisqueen8448 that’s a great question … loved Larry Johnson at UNLV. Larry had more time at the college level than Grant, Grant was just a freshman. LJ was a dominant PF, but Grant was special. I didn’t know it at the time, but he might have been able to uplift his average teammates’ games as well, like how many great players are able to do. Grant Hill got hurt in in his final years with the Pistons. But his game when he was healthy was MVP like with Detroit. LJ got hurt too, became a shadow of his former self.

    I miss watching how competitive my UNLV Rebels used to be, when I look at old footage of our ‘90 National Championship, and the past dominance in the Big West Conference, it’s depressing to see how far this College Program has fallen since the Late Jerry Tarkanian was removed from UNLV as our Head Coach.

  • @josephdelledonne2098
    @josephdelledonne2098 Рік тому

    I'm Vegas born and raised and was so upset when this happened. They hadn't had a close game all year, and I think LJ didn't know what to do. He was worried about the clock, and if he drove could he get a good shot up in time to win the game, is shooting the 3 the better option? People say he passed up on that, but even if you're a good 3 pointer shooter (which LJ wasn't ge was an inside power player) hitting a game winning 3vis not easy. You're way out there. I remember reading an article some years back where Larry said he blames himself for not taking the shot. If he missed he would be okay with it, at least he would know, and at least he wouldn't have been afraid. Like I said though, LJ didn't know what to do, and I heard it was because they're point guard/leader wasn't in the game; Greg Anthony. Also, like with Webber, LJ had no business brining the ball up, if Anthony's in the game that doesn't happen and maybe LJ has a post up opportunity. Great game plan by Duke.

    What a weak foul call. In the final seconds of a tie game in the final four....in 1991?! That's a pretty weak foul call today, but in the 90's when much more contact was allowed? Way to decide the game ref.
