_6. Common Sense_ Well, this could be the determining factor of my success! On a serious note, my AC condenser isn't leaking, but needs to be replaced because the previous owner somehow caved it in; is there a safe way to do this at home (you mentioned a recycling machine)? Or am I better off taking it to a shop?
Scotty I live near Houston and need a condensor replacement. I can do the bolt on stuff but I don't have a vacuum or enough refrigerant. can I pay you to do it? I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty and would love to work with you. Even if you didn't want to do that it'd be a great honor for you to do a burn out in my truck!

Thank you so much for this! I love your energy, your dynamic voice, and easy-to-follow instructions. A deer took out the front of my van.Insurance wrote it off. I'm not ready to let it go for just hood, core and core support repair. So...here I am in my driveway figuring it out and feeling like a kid playing with Legos. Your vid is really helpful! THANK YOU!
dude im so glad i found this , i almost payed some one 500 dollars to do something i could do my self , i had a feeling the mechanic was pulling my leg and wanted my arms as well! so a little research and some instruction im on my way to some A/C.
Hi 🙂👍Skotty Kilmer, I like to say hello, I am not a mechanic but, I learned from your advice and I like to fix my own car, I like all your videos and I am proud of You and Thank you for contributing a bit of sand.
Scotty, thanks for showing how it's done. Over here it's illegal to work on your A/C system without a licence, so thank you for showing me just how simple it is! Enjoy your vacation!

go to the scotty kilmer channel on youtube, then scroll down to the recent upload section and they are all there in order, the first one being the latest. I put a new one up normally on tuesday mornings.
if the plug going to the compressor clutch has no power, your AC does not work at all, must not be very hot where you are. Many things can do that, but start by hot wiring the compressor from the battery, and if that works, just run a toggle switch to run it then, fast easy fix
yes, probably it, pressure test the radiator to find out.If you like my car help, be sure to watch my live car talk show every saturday morning at 10 AM CST on google events. Going to be doing this soon on my 98 Neon. I've heard that if for cost or lack of supply if you can't replace the filter drier at the same time that if you keep vacuum on the system for a really long time like 10 hours it can pull most of the moisture out of the filter drier.
Oh no, Scotty, that's awesome you had sometime to take a Vacation, I was just kidding, Im your biggest fan,, You inspired me to be mechanic every tool , air tool N compressor, even scan tools, gloves I have are just like yours, last but not least, big moving air fan its hotter than hati's here to haha , Didn't mean for that to sound like that. I hope you had fun on your trip. #1 Fan Savannah,GA
I love all your videos u show people how easy it is to do with other people cars thank u appreciate the view your good at what u do keep up the good work.
If the rotors are warped they can cause vibration when braking and cause uneven pad wear. If your car has ABS then the CV half shaft needs to have a tone ring on it for the system to work properly. You can get them with and without. No big deal to use one with a tone ring on a non ABS car but ABS system needs one so you might want to check if they used the right CV half shaft.
evacuate the system and fill it with a factory load of refrigerant. Just sitting, all systems leak out the rubber seals.Use them, and the oil inside the ac lubes the seals so they don't leak.
my friend had the same problem on his 92 4runner. checked the balance of the tires, tires itself, and bushings, everything was good but still shaked. Ended up being the brakes. It has the 4 piston brake calipers and the rotors were warped causing pulsation.
ii have rewired a hot on many ac pumps I came across a pump with 2 wires going into it can those be rewired as well Cadillac or vw not sure now which it was have a good vacation mr kilmer
Hi Scotty, good job.the condenser was easy to replace, which car was it? On my Golf 3 u have to tear the whole front of to get the condenser replace! Cheers Dan
i vacuumed both low and high line for 30 mins. the low pressure should be at -30. stop the pump and watch the low gauge for 5 mins. if it remains at -30 then that means there is no leak. then fill the new gas in.
Hey Scott I found out what was wrong... Where I fill the ac at.. That had a leak and I can c it bubble... So I bought the peace for $8 bucks... And then I put the ac refrigerant and it started working....it's my 99 Cadillac devill by the way.. With that said the ac got cold but not that cold.. Well I just wanted to know how muck refrigerant does it takes... Thanks for all the help Scott...
Great video! Very detailed. I almost think i should have tried to do this instead of big bucks to firestone....Thanks for the videos. I look for your videos first on this type of topic! Thank you for posting!
Scotty, Looking at buying 2002 cadillac deville northstar...103,000miles.. tran-y questions and oil consumption every 2-3000miles guys says they use or burn quart every 2-3000??? Transmissions oil still looks red Can I put that restore additive on this motor to help it? Whats you thoughts on additives for this motor? Thanks for your efforts
Hi Scotty! Great video. How did you know it was a bad condenser and not a seal? My Accord leaked at that same spot but I was hoping it was the seal rather than the condenser. Is there any harm in trying to replace a seal instead? If I do, is it still necessary to replace the dryer and do the vacuum pumping before recharging it?
Check the balance of the tires. Once they become imbalanced, you'll feel a slight vibration at the 60-80mph range. If all four tires are balanced, then you'll need to check the engine mounts and suspension components for any damage.
Scotty, have a question nothing to do with the actual vid. A friend's of mine 97 Accord start form cold at about 2K to 1K5 .... it slowly goes down, stays a little at 1K and then drop to about the half of the 1K range, I'd said, like 500 or 600RPM. Is it normal ? I guess noT. Where do you would see frist. Thanks Scotty. Nice vid as usual. Abrazos.
Question scotty,, sure need some help, my buddy has a 99 Toyota rav4 and we have replaced the timing belt with your video last summer, and since then its got cut again, twice and were, back in there, and seems like the belt isn't staying tight, and we put new spring and tensionor on there, and its still not getting the belt fully tight, Any Advice Scotty. Thanks Scotty, #1 Fan Daniel Savannah,GA
I have a mechanic quoting me just over $900 to do this exact job. Does that sound right or am I getting ripped off? I have a 2012 Ford escape XLT with a V6 engine.
You can find the condenser alone on the internet for less than 100. It would probably cost over 100, less than 200 if you also buy the pump thing and the refrigerant, but it would still be less than 900
Hey Scotty. Got the condenser and dryer into my 03 sonata. followed all your directions! worked like a charm! got a question about air temperature. when I run it on max ac recirculate the air temp is about 42 deg. when I run it on outside air....its about 50 deg. temp outside was about 85deg. you think its working properly? I put in the exact amount of refrigerant using the postal scale like you suggested. system takes 1.49lbs +or- .06. Thanks again for your great videos!!!!
Scotty, what do u think about the k&n filters? I heard the MAF sensor goes bad but i did some research on that and k&n says that they improved the filter. (I have a 10 odyssey)
Hi Scotty, the rear driver side shock is now broken and is leaking fluid about a week ago and is knocking sometimes over bumps, should i get it replaced or wait til the other rear shock goes and get the two replaced?
I have a 1995 Lincoln Mark VIII. The rear air suspension is very leaky and i'm thinking of replacing it with regular springs (I don't know how to do that) also the A/C is also broken. The heater and fan work but no cold air comes out when I turn on the A/C. What might be the problem? Also, there is a small fluid leak, how can I tell what fluid it is? And lastly, should I sell the car and get a different car or fix these issues and keep it for a bit longer? The mileage is only 86,000.
Older cars could use a shorter oil change schedule, but an abused engine needs all the help it can get. Replacing the oil every 3 months on a new car is wasteful, but preventive maintenance on older/more broken engines.
Hi Scotty, Firstly, many thanks for the wonderful Video. Secondly, I am just wondering if you can help me? I have Honda jazz, I want to replace the condenser and I know how to do that but I have couple of things to ask you about : 1- Why you put the "R134A REFRIGERANT oil" inside the new condenser and is it essential to do that? 2- I have picture for some wire just come of when I opened the condenser to check it, can I send you the pic to see if you can identify it? I doubted it's a sensor for the heat should stick on the condenser ? Is there some thing like that? Kind Regards
If you have R12 it expense if you can not get a couple of cans . I suggest getting a can of leak detector . They have them for R12 and R134. I bought mine R12 and install system for 30 bucks at a yard sell. I also see them on ebay as long as you can fill with R12 is if no one can see you put it in . I live in a simi rural area so I did it back in the driveway. Stay away from some of those convert systems there very flammable!!!!
Hey Scotty I was wondering if you live in the Houston area? Also if you do how much would you charge to replace ac compressor, orifice tube and drier on a 1999 Chevy silverado with a 5.3 liter v8.
Scotty great video, now I understand how this is done, how much should putting in a new Conde sor on a 2007 cost. I’m getting prices from $900 to $1500 here in Connecticut
That condenser looks like a nice easy job, I've some of those miserable jobs changing the evaporator in which the entire dash board has to be removed. Doing one of those looks like a nightmare.
As much As ive liked scotty vids, all car mechanics put these AC videos without full comprehension to the viewers. Many will replace the compressor and think that fixes the problem but I would actually recommend replacing all of your AC components, the compressor, the condenser, and the Receiver drier because if one fails it tends to cause the others to fail. Example, my AC compressor clutch will not activate, both because of the compressor failing, being rusted out but also damaged condenser fins. DO NOT ASSUME IT IS ONLY ONE COMPONENT FAILING. All of these AC videos do not give you the entire scope of the AC system, learn the entire system and how it all works together.
Well life is a balance of work and fun. To work for 45 years in auto mechanics and not look too old or creaky you need to go on vacation from time to time.
Hi scotty, maybe you can help me, i have a civic 2006 1.8, i have balanced and done everything to my wheels, but i feel i little "vibration" when high RPMS so i think my engine is doing it, so can you tell me where are the engine supports, and how do i check if they are ok or not? thank you
I just replaced my compressor, condenser, accumulator, and orifice tube and am having trouble recharging. My 97 chevy silverado is supposed to take 32 oz of 134a but will only accept about 20 oz. My gauges are reading normal at 35 psi for the low and 250 psi for the high. I checked the orifice tube to see if there was any blockage; it was clean. Do you have any ideas as to why the system will not accept the last 12 oz of refrigerant?
How do you fix a door lock actuator? Is it a rather simple task? I don't want to spend an hour removing the door panel to fix something that I can't. It's a 1999 Lexus RX300 btw, if it makes a difference.
i have a/c leak and cruise control out of order. i am in Irving/tx. i will if you are less that 50 miles away i will drive to you to have it fixed. i trust you million %.
I love u man! Thanks to you I now do my own work on my cars! I need help with my 1994 Honda Civic 4 cylinder v-tec that my ac compressor don't turn on. The fan turns on the clutch turns its fully charged. I don't know what else to check please HELP!!!
That was easy the big cost is one of those a/c pumps. I had a 91 camry with r12 2 years ago it was blowing warm I watched your videos back then and refill it with r12 . I got 2 cans and the fill kit at a yard sale for 30 bucks. Mine only took 1 can . To bad the car was totaled back in july 2102 and it left me and wife in wheelchairs . There is big hope she will be able to walk again Me there not to sure. Yes we're suing!! He said his dog jumped on his lap and he lost control hitting us at 70mph
Hi Scotty i haven't change my car engine oil for 1year almost? But im adding oil and checking dips stick always and its ok, but its smell like burnt and color is bad too. When i bought my car it was 100000km and now its 120000 any tips what should i do first? Sorry for my bad english. i'm from Japan but i DIY if i can
Hey Scotty I think it would be cool if you made a video on how you get your customers, how you advertise your name out their and your daily life as a mechanic.
Hey Scotty, I got a 96 C1500 Silvarado 350cu pickup. And the issue I have is the Plug that goes into the AC compressor. You see we pressurized the system and replaced the R-13 and it holds pressure. But the plug going into the Compressor has no power and in the cab of the truck, AC blows cool but not cold. We checked the relays under the hood and fuses in the cab. Am I missing anything on the system or is it something else I over looked?
AC air is very cold, outside air in summer is generally hot and humid. So when it hits a cold Ac evaporator, guess what? It creates rain, which then drains under the car. Normal if it's humid outside.
Hey Scotty, I have a 96 Nissan Sentra that's been leaking oil onto the alternator and serpentine belt. As a result I get lower than normal voltage out of the battery. What do you advise I do?
Hey scotty - I have a 1983 car and it's heater/air conditioning which doesn't work at all and I can't deuce what the problem is. What do you think? Thanks for the read, I am a big fan.
My frind has an '03 Focus, he constantly uses the AC. I noticed lots of dripping under his car one day, any idea if it's from the AC or if it's anything to worry about? It left a huge puddle when we came back out to his car.
Air reduces the effectiveness of the refrigerant. More importantly, you put a vacuum on the system to boil out water from the system, since that's what can lead to corrosion, and also reduces how well refrigerant transfers heat.
Ugh. I think I'm going to have to do this with my '04 intrepid. Overheats when AC is on in city traffic, temp fine on freeway with AC on, or any time that AC is off. Could be the fans too, so I'm reading. About to look at it tomorrow.
Scotty, I have a 2010 Dodge Caliber SXT. The compressor has been replaced. Once the freon is in there, it only last about an hour blowing COLD AIR. After that, the freon has leaked out. Do you think it is the high ac line. I put dye in it before the compressor was replaced, but the green dye only showed around the area where the freon goes in. Can you help me please.
Mr. Kilmer, if I replace the condenser and the receiver/drier myself, can i then drive it to the mechanic to have them do the vacuum and recharge? Or will that ruin things? The drive is about 10 minutes
@@dcbrot haha dang bro i jus asked a mechanic and he said it was fine to drive after u just wont get super cold air. Ima just replace it and take it for them to vacuum should all be good

I have Honda jazz, I want to replace the condenser and I know how to do that but I have couple of things to ask you about :
1- Why you put the "R134A REFRIGERANT oil" inside the new condenser and is it essential to do that?
All of these AC videos do not give you the entire scope of the AC system, learn the entire system and how it all works together.
expecting a real good video tomorrow Scotty, been awhile since we got a video ;)
It's in front of the radiator, even looks like a radiator, They just bolt off, but a lot of crap has to be moved out of the way.
I don't know what else to check please HELP!!!
many things can do that, pray it's just low on refrigerant, check that first. Realize they are computer driven complex systems on that caddie
Wish all cars had components this easy to get to!
You're Ace Scotty! Keep em coming.
Hi Scotty, are you enjoy fixing car or make a lot of money. Thanks for the video
How the home renovations coming on?, another great video by the way.
Where can I get a vacuum pump? Enjoy your videos. Great info.
dear Scotty, thanks for your useful videos. do you know how to replace a AC condenser in Peugeot 307 2007 and where it is located?
thanks
my two sons. But youngest is in 101st airborne, you could send it to them for helping the families of those killed in action.
Am I missing anything on the system or is it something else I over looked?
it's a customer's car, and now it's moved to florida with him to retirement land
Hey scotty do i have to acually use that tool that you suck out the air after I install the condensor? Or i can just fill with frion?
Should u pre fill the condenser. What about the drier if it's a separate assembly?
Thats awesome scotty thats the exact car that I need to change the condenser in. Looks like a piece of cake thanks to you
pressures would be too high and ruin the system
AC air is very cold, outside air in summer is generally hot and humid. So when it hits a cold Ac evaporator, guess what? It creates rain, which then drains under the car. Normal if it's humid outside.
Scotty do you have video on installing relay on a headlight? Many thanks
Drier built into the condenser? Seems like a good idea but what if the compressor fails. You have to replace the condenser too?
Hey Scotty, I have a 96 Nissan Sentra that's been leaking oil onto the alternator and serpentine belt. As a result I get lower than normal voltage out of the battery. What do you advise I do?
no, it only sucks what's right there at the port you are sucking from. Very little ever comes out that way.
first check it for leaking refrigerant by having ac gauges hooked up, e mail me the pressure readings high and low. That's where you start
Scotty Kilmer hi Scott I have a 1997 toyota camry le and my condenser leak how I know how to get the right part for it to fix my self
Hey scotty - I have a 1983 car and it's heater/air conditioning which doesn't work at all and I can't deuce what the problem is. What do you think? Thanks for the read, I am a big fan.
When he poured the oil all over the hole in the condenser I just about died lmao
About to look at it tomorrow.
lol omg the professional way on oiling that thing up
Enjoy your vacation Scotty.
Did you get an answer🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
@@jr.zz7162 nope. I never replaced the condenser either, and the Jeep has been sitting for a year. 😣
@@dcbrot haha dang bro i jus asked a mechanic and he said it was fine to drive after u just wont get super cold air. Ima just replace it and take it for them to vacuum should all be good
@@jr.zz7162 that’s awesome, thanks for the info. Good luck with your ride
Great video, fast and no nonsense. Thanks.
Scotty, you are the Bob Munden of auto mechanics :-)
