Unpopular opinion… an unopened box is an unopened box and that’s what you are buying. When you open it you are accepting the risk of the cards being ruined like this. I don’t think the seller was in the wrong here. These cards are known for being easily ruined by the gum.
This shouldn't be an unpopular opinion. It should be understood that's the deal
I agree you can not buy a box this vintage and expect anything other.
Dude, I don't think I can watch you rip the back off a Hank Aaron or any other vintage card like that anymore. How about at least giving your gummed up packs a blast with a hair dryer/heat gun first? That's what we did at the card shop back in the 80s whenever this happened. It doesn't stop the stain but lets you peal the cards off each other at least without totally destroying.
I've heard that putting them in the freezer will work sometimes too.
Peel 😊
9mths later...i laughed@@1949LA-ARCH
Seeing Jabs rip the hank aaron was literally torture
I was about to comment the same thing 😭
It hurt me so bad
I died a lil inside
Absolutely no need for it. All he had to do was heat it up a little to separate it. Yeah, it would still be stained, but he didn't need to destroy it. And ripping the wrappers? Wrecking the box? No need at all.
@@ChadTower Yea i think he was just a little mad and didn't really care at this point
My heart sank when that first Hank Aaron split apart.
As painful as this was, I really like seeing these old cards coming out of packs. Thanks for seeing this one through, and I hope you never have this sort of bad luck again!
I was thirteen years old, that sunmer of 1972, I visited my uncle who resided in the South Bronx New York. My father's best friend was Pedro Rodriguez a renowned dentist, ine I met one of his client, Jerry Kenney a shortstop of theNew York Yankees. I met him at Pedro's office, he gave us ticket near to the Yankees dugout, met Felioe Alou. and Ron Bloomberg. Beautiful memories.
😭 i can’t watch past that Hank Aaron. It’s to traumatic 😱
A moment of silence for that poor hank Aaron card 😔
RIP
It was nice to see the vintage cards. Sorry it didn’t work out for you.
I appreciate the humility in opening the box and making the video. Thanks for being a great ambassador for the hobby we all love.
3:00 for the Hank Aaron (RIP)
Should've kept it sealed. This is a relic that you don't see very often. The gum from this year was well known to be very problematic.
Hindsight is always 20/20
Baseball proverbs say “hobbyist who eat the stale gum of vintage wax, will have better lucky next time.” 😂
This may be the saddest opening video ever.
Lol I think this is hilarious!!! Finally got to see him spend real money on cards... perfect outcome
Man, you must have a really sad life.
No but usually his videos of him going picking through bargain bins trying to get the cheapest price you can on cards With little value
I collected up to 1971 and was sent to Vietnam in 1972. Which basically ended my collecting for a while. Had to grow up fast. Thanks for the video. Brings back memories.
Ouch something we all take a chance on though. Gum, bricking, etc.
love that Buck Martinez! he is a legend here in Toronto and his voice is either a love or hate, I love!
Sorry about that box. My favorite card even with damage was the roberto clemente. Hard telling what he would have accomplished if not cut short. Matters even worse was on a humanitarian mission.
I LOVE the font on those packages man...TOTALLY GROOVY! (Definite "keep on truck'n" vibe).
When Jabs hits 100k he has to eat a piece of gum 😂
Face reveal at 100k
@@ryansizemorejr agree
Jabs has shown his face already in numerous videos
@@1CrispyCracker can you give me link plz?
Reds fan so I liked all of the Reds cards especially the Bench, Bench in action and the Sparky Anderson.
I would definitely send a few bucks your way for the Hank Aaron cards even though they are damaged. Sorry that happened but it was still enjoyable to see these cards
These vintage openings are awesome videos, with or without gum!
Tough break Eric. Hopefully you’ll have better luck down the road on another vintage break. Aaron would of been my favorite if it wasn’t ruined.
To bust wax from 1972 would be such an honor, I would keep every single one of those cards and treasure them all until the day I died!
Seeing that Hank Aaron being ripped brought actual tears to my eyes. So sad 😭😭😭
Glad i watched this and know not to waste any money on 72 boxes.
I felt sick when that Hank Aaron got torn. Gonna keep watching and liking.
One of the most fun times I've had watching you opening the box of 72s. Very cool and thanks for your generosity in sharing.
'72 was the year that I first started collecting. I was 8 years old, and to this day it's still my favorite set. It really sucks that the gum melted and you got ripped off like that, you hit almost every star card in the series. The Hank Aaron/Aaron in action cards are 2 of the hardest to get in a high PSA grade due to the centering.
That Roberto Clemente is in way better shape then mine! Love your videos
This mad me sick and I had to leave work early
I love see the old card even in bad shape.
Thank you for bringing up A. Bartlett Giamatti. Baseball could really use his leadership about now.
You should have just let the Hank Aaron stuck 🤦🏽
Sorry about the big bust. It’s too bad with the gum stains. Hope tomorrow’s video gets you a 5,000+ hit so you make your money back.
Some day the 80’s cards will be the same too
First year I bought cards as a kid in Chicago. So I'm gonna pick Billy Williams. Your video really brought me back.
My favorite card was the Reggie Jackson card
Giants fan here, I liked the McCovey card... if you’re willing to let it go, let me know or any other giants you found
Ouch, I wanted to cry when that Hank Aaron got shredded , thanks for the sad video Erik, lol 😔
My favorite card was the ted Williams
On the that Tom House Rookie card, along with Rick Kester, and Jimmy Britton, well the picture of Rick Kester Is Jimmy Britton (middle), and vi-sa-ver-sa! True. Jim Britton was the father of my childhood friend Mark Britton, the son of Jimmy Britton. Jim Britton was a giant to us at 6'5"! Nice man. Jim Britton's real true Rookie card was 1964. He was on a few Rookie cards of different year cards.
He’s not eating the gum today??? Man I wanted some ASMR.
I love seeing all the Big Red Machine cards.
I was two in 1972 & all I can say is , Man!! All of those Stars , HOFers 🩻
That's why I will never buy a whole box of any old wax with gum
Thanks Jabs for loving my comment your the best I can’t imagine getting back into cards without your videos and my dad liking cards when he was a kid
It breaks my heart to see the condition of these cards. I can only imagine how it made you feel. You do not deserve this to happen to you. You are one of the rare youtubers that is so fair to all of us. You do giveaways all the time and I cannot even count the amount of times that when you felt someone was ripped off during a break, you take from your own stash to make it fair. I am so so sorry this happened. My fav card is the Tigers team card and Mickey Lolich that got ruined. Ty for being so good to us subscribers !!
The torture of watching that Hank Aaron was too much. Worst thing to happen to baseball cards since 91 Fleer.
I have a near mint 72 Nolan Ryan I purchased 30 some years ago. Definitely one of my favorites. Don't take chances when it comes to collecting. Know what you're buying and you'll be much happier.
Tough break to watch but I respect your transparency.
I have always been a Willie Stargell fan.
Im so sorry man that sucks, at least you got some cool cards.
After this upload I'm betting that vintage wax boxes/packs have just depreciated in value _CONSIDERABLY._
Beautiful. Just beautiful. Some nice cards in there.
'72 was my favorite Topps card design. A shame about the cards here. That first Aaron being peeled of front from back...was a shocking thing to watch.
Sorry to see this Jabs. Would love that Seaver or a Carew. Thanks for the opportunity!
I believe I heard angels crying when the Hammerin' Hank was ripped 😢. Love that Reggie tho
OPC made rancid gum. Opened a box of '91-'92 hockey a few years ago and every stick of gum was moldy and leaked into at least 3 cards per pack.
Sorry for your loss jabs. Stand up for you refunding the people in the break. Loved the Hank Aaron.
I love that Roberto Clemente at 7:20!!! I live near Johnstown Pennsylvania so my teams are the pirates, penguins, and Steelers. In the last 5 years I've probably entered around 100 drawings on UA-cam and have never won once. Mostly firework and trading card giveaways. I'd be so stoked if I won that Clemente! Definitely sucks that the person wouldn't reimburse you some for that bubble gum damage.
Joe Pepitone was my fav because it made me think of Curb your enthusiasm 🤣
I love the non damaged cards in packs 4, 8, 16, & 22 😂
I almost lost it when he ripped that Hank Aaron. That was heartbreaking. This box is as old as me.
Also love that Roberto clemente
I can't imagine you still have any of these, but if that Richie Scheinblum is still kicking around I would love it. When I was a kid in the 1970s in Vermont his brother or cousin lived upstairs from me and my family. My neighbor gave me and my brother each an autographed KC Royals signed by Richie.
It’s buyer beware and all sales are final on eBay. I can’t say that I’m surprised that the seller didn’t give you your money back as the seller will want to sell each box for as much as they can get. My suggestion for you is to next time only buy cards with no gum, use this experience to negotiate down the price with the seller before buying or don’t buy cards on eBay and buy them from somewhere where you can physically see and feel what you’re buying before buying it
Looking at these cards reminded me when I lost thousands of cards I had been given and collected in a flood in my basement. Was a dark day 😞 I feel your pain 😞
Love the Stargells! Especially the boyhood one!
I watched the whole video. Hard to watch. I was born in 1975 and started collecting in 1987. 1972 Topps is my favorite baseball card set as far as design goes.
Years ago I found a box of early 50s topps cards at a garage sale they were left in a damp leaky attic I was able to save a lot of the cards by steaming them and the real stuck ones I actually put them in water and let them soak and they actually would separate then I let them dry in the sun I was able save another of them!
Bbce sure making a show of themselves these days
The Billy Williams was my favorite! Very informative video.
If I were the seller I would not give a refund
Sorry about the Hank Aaron. But nice Tom Seaver!
Love the Hank Aaron Jabs!
Hank Aaron in action card was cool! Keep it, good story behind it to tell your grandkids👍
I think those cards are worth more if you leave it in the pack. You take it somewhere where you can get money for those cards and they have their ways of avoiding the damage.
J.R.'s dad's name was Roger. He was a car dealer in Charleston,WV
“Gets a PSA -10” 😂😂😂😂
Don't worry Erik, I took care of the swearing for you.....sada news on this box for sure. but now it will be over and at least we know what's inside. Thanks so much for sharing this.
Man...that Clemente! So sad..... And of course the pristine CHECKLIST!!!!!
Hey Eric, love the videos! Bummer about the box! If you don’t want the Jimmy Rosario card, I would love it, it is my wife’s uncle. He is a really nice guy, I always give him cards when I find them. He is in the 1972 Topps & O-Pee-Chee. I also found Brewers card of him that celebrates the Brewers history. Thanks!
I admire your attitude, most people would be furious. Your a special guy!
Any card not ruined by gum or water works for me!! Love the content Jabs. Keep up the good work.
Those Aarons and Clementes were absolutely heartbreaking. lol but those were my favorites!
3k likes and Erik will eat the gum lol
If the gum or wax seeps into the paper you can't do much to resurrect the card. In some cases you can heat or freeze the substances off but it doesn't always work.
This also happened to me with some 1982 Donruss Golf cards. About 65% of the cards were ruined from the gum, including a Jack Nicklaus.
Realest break ever!! And that Roberto Clemente 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for opening the rest of the packs! Aloha
$5300…this makes me feel a whole lot better for paying $75 for a box of 92 Donruss & 92 Upper Deck baseball.
This is exactly why vintage wax is the biggest gamble in the hobby. The box can look perfect, but inside can be a hot mess.
Two thumbs up for sharing the box, despite the hard lesson learned... You have probably saved MANY folks from suffering a similar financial loss.... You are the BEST!!!!
Imagine this was the first video from this channel that someone watched? Lol.
This WAS the first video from this channel I ever watched, and the first box opening I ever watched. Two packs in it also became the first card channel I subscribed to. The host, Jabs? Handled this so beautifully. You know he was devastated and I wouldn't have blamed him if he unloaded on the seller. But he kept his chin up and took it with as much grace and humor as possible. I also learned a few things: like never buy a box for that much! I am a fan..
i love the john wathan fish story. it was 11 then 19 then 23 now its 40 LOL. that video is awesome tho maybe my favorite
Cool seeing the packs, quantity, original price and being opened. Those early 70s action shots are brutal, posed are decent!
Tom House is the guy who caught Hank Aaron's 715 homer in the bullpen
Loved the Fergie card! Hate all of these beautiful cards were damaged.
Hank Aaron is the best one for me
Love the Pirates of the 70s... So, Clemente or Stargell gets my vote!
Ouch. But I love watching these kind of videos! Thank you for sharing! I hope you recoup some of that money
