Cas, you are an amazing woman, so articulate, so present in yourself, so interesting. I will be coming back to this video time and again to remind me to look...look deeply, and appreciate my surroundings. thank you for being you.
Dear Cas, I do love your work so much. I also love your philosophies of life. You come across as an extremely positive, determined and strong person. I too don’t care if others like my work, or not! My art fills me with every stitch, brush stroke, and the noise of ripping cloth. It’s all music to my ears and heart, as it seems, yours is to you too. Stay happy , healthy and creative so that we all can enjoy a lot more of you work. Thank you so much! ❤️🤗
Thank you for sharing your heartfelt response! It's truly wonderful to hear that Cas Holmes's work has inspired you to embrace your creativity without fear...
as i am sitting here this saturday morning after having my cup of coffee, i am taking in this lovely creative sister, i am connecting with her experience in the creative world, for i too am a contributor to the art of creativity. i thought about my journey of then to now. i dipped my toe into various forms of creation. Performing art (i was an actress, singer, director, playwright, producer. i produced my own play back in 2007), visual art (i did a lot of coloring after being challenged to start coloring in an adult coloring book given to me by a visiting interior designer who did a "lunch and learn" session with our interiors department at the architecture design firm where i worked at here in atlanta. i'm now retired. since then, i made several colorings books of my collected works using pencil and gel pens and markers. then created my own coloring designs) which led me to where i am now. i am a creative designer of canvas tote bags and accessories. This journey of bag creating led me to sewing which i learned back in high school and never went back to untill now. and i am truly loving it because it is taking my journey to another level in my life. so yes, i can connect with Cas. she made me realize, that your creative life is a constant journey of discovery within yourself. a journey of challenges and mastering all the wonderful and amazing things you can create. it's a beautiful thing!
Inspired, inspirational video storytelling and narrative, plus fine editing, audio and captions, too (please open CC), as I love the way she passionately exudes confidence and creativity!
Madelyn Smith was a famous murderer in Glasgow from a window she poisoned someone her boyfriend the building was taken over by glasgow art school I studied there years ago
i enjoyed your story of connected with bits of fabric, paper and found things. I am not an artist but I do feel the connection of art being not just something pretty but have a purpose to in spire. I live in Huntsville, Alabama USA
I never tire of listening to you. I was born and brought in Cranbrook and as a child it was a great adventure to visit Maidstone. I never knew of the contact with paper, I must look into this. Thank you. A great piece.
Thank you! This is an amazing and inspiring sharing. I'm left thinking even more thoughtfully about why I engage in creative doings - my "why" for making and my increasing comfort in making for my mining the nano-gold that I find all around me in the world.
Fierce interview. I relate to your ‘unpicking’ of metaphors and relationship to caring for your husband. Some how experience can be metabolised through the making. Thank you for sharing your process.
Brava Cas. I have been fascinated by your thought processes and they have opened me up to many more possibilities in how I view myself and my art and my place in the world . Thank you
Wow! I luckily received this video in my UA-cam feed this morning!! I didn’t know of you & what a total pleasure to relax outside while watching & listening to this amazing life story! It’s always fascinating to hear artist talk about their lives & the unique paths their lives have traveled! As was this one!! Thank you!!
That was wonderful! So much of what she said resonated with me as a creative but also, simply as a human being. What a beautiful mind and manifested talent she has.
Hi Cas, your work is beautiful. I feel drawn to creating art, but have not figured out how to express myself yet. Right now I’m learning more about being true me so that I can produce something that’s coming from me and not just copying someone else. I love your philosophies and the way that you are creating what you’re thinking and feeling at a particular time. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and your work.❤
It will come, in the quiet spaces. It will take time. Its taken me a lifetime of work so far for what I do to make some connection and sense. It could also be adversity is the best companion to creativity.
Really enjoyed this ... what an inspiration Cas is. I started watching this to then share with my textile loving sister. Hearing Cas talk about being a caretaker of her partner and a creative really spoke to me as the caretaker to my husband for over three years ... and feeling burned out. Cas turned out to be very inspiring and uplifting to me mixing caretaking with her creativity. Thank you!!
We're glad you found this powerful. Cas Holmes has an incredible way of connecting with people through her art and inspiring creativity in others. Thank you for watching!
Cas, you are such a lovely and remarkable lady, I totally understand how you felt when your spouse became disabled and you became the caregiver. My spouse has been disabled for 37 years of our 44 yr relationship and I am the caregiver. He changes how I perceive my daily life, everyday is different and it all depends on his abilities that day. Thank you so much for speaking of your childhood, your art education and the change in your daily life. Stay strong and do things that make you happy every single day. The art that was shown in this video was lovely, I admire your talent. Kindest regards K
Thankyou. As devastating as the change felt at the time. Accommodation if that change has taught me so much. The value of creativity and friendship top of the list
Dear, I can relate to your story in a different way. But how you narrated it all is only through your loving heart. I became extremely emotional. Your life is certainly a lesson for me in every sense and aspects. I am unable to thank you enough. Love you . Thanks 🙏
Even I create ( whatever) is just to keep myself occupied with something I love to do. It may be painting, stitching, crochet and whatever I have done throughout my life from the age of eight.
Thank you so much for your kind words. We're glad the video resonated with you. Cas Holmes has such a beautiful way of connecting people through her art and words, and it's wonderful to hear that her work struck a chord with you as well.
You speak my language very eloquently Cas. I have a biological twin sister, but I think you might be my "true" twin. How you describe your art, what it means to you, & your thought processes, etc, I can totally relate to. Cheers and Best to you :)

Sadly the days when teachers were allowed to give children space to find their own way has been replaced with standardized curriculum with no regard for independent thinking and guided learning experiences based on the intersts skills and abilities of the student. Its no wonder children hate school.
This is a really unhelpful attitude. Claiming that teachers have ‘no regard for independent thinking’ is simply wrong. Children don’t all hate school. Standardised testing was imposed on schools and teachers have had to respond to that but they also mostly care deeply about children learning and discovering how to learn and explore their own interests. 😊
In the early 80’s, Sir Rhodes Boyson, the then education under-secretary said “children should be taught according to their abilities”. Sadly, most children are herded into boxes & are all taught the same, whether it fits their abilities or not. I left school in the early 70’s, beyond frustrated because school had never catered for my intelligence & independent thinking. Although extremely bright at English & Art, I struggled with Maths & as a result was demoted to third stream, when you were placed according to your overall ability. As a result I could not do ‘O’ level English or Art - only available to the top two streams. We had to do 25 essays for the CSE exam. I did 15 of them the night before the exam (ADHD brain), & still got grade 1. I also sailed through grade 1 Art. Had I achieved O level I might have gone on the Uni or Art college, but by then I was so frustrated & disillusioned I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. I honestly believe I learned more from my creative parents than I ever did from school. I do wonder how many bright kids have just given up over the years because they were never ‘taught according to their abilities’………

It's good to hear that the video has inspired you to reflect deeply on your creative journey and to embrace your "why"...
Embracing the why is so much part of a creative practice

I loved teaching so much. So sad that educators have been alienated from their path

Is that a Bernina 830? Fantastic machine; mechanical workhorse.
It is I also have a 730
Been using Berninas my whole life! 730, 930 and an industrial 517!
I studied ceramics at art school but wish i had done textiles
Have a go. It is never too late. I studied painting...not textiles. So anything is possible
too bad the video doesn't show more of her work
