Wow, what a great home at an amazing price. I am beginning the journey to obtain Italian citizenship to go back to Palena, the village of my ancestors. This area seems so beautiful.
@@griswald7156 my ancestors left because at the time there were more opportunities for them in the U.S. They were in search of the American dream just like most immigrants from many nations. The village is quaint, and the views are stunning. I think what I would do for a single person, is take the big bulky chair out of the kitchen, put a sleeper sofa in the bedroom so that can be more of a living room. and make a small sitting area along with the kitchen table in the front area as you come in. I once lived in Abruzzo precisely Roccaraso. What a great region. Fara San Martino is the home of the famous pasta brand with that name. Madonna, the artist, her parents come from Cocullo, a town near Palena. And Abruzzo region is in the middle of Italy. One of the important towns on the sea nearby is Pescara, that has direct flights to many European countries and the UK. Pescara is also a seaport for ferries to Albany and other Mediterranean ports of many countries.
U must not have got out much when u were there. 1. Fara San Martino is home to the two large and internationally known pasta factories DeCecco and DelVerde. There is also smaller artisan Cocco pasta and organic producer BioAlimenti. All use the fresh and pure spring water from the adjacent mountain. San Martino pasta made in Naples area I believe. 2. Madonna's grandparents were from Pacentro, on eastern mountainside above Sulmona. Cocullo is on opposite side of valley, just off autostrada A25. 3. Pescara is a major city with about 300k population that easily swells close to 400k in summer months with all the beachgoers. Yes airport has international connections around Europe but used to be even better about 15-20 years ago with direct charter flights in summer to/from North America, Toronto and Montreal, Canada for sure. Then a few "businezz men" got very greedy with landing fees, jet fuel service prices and food replenishment .....
@@carforumwanker At purchase, the legal and other fees could be in that range due to very low selling price for property. Yearly property tax depends if it is your primary residence or if considered a second home. There will be monthly gas, water and electric bills even if just minimums when no one is there (as you'll find in most other countries). Town usually has municipal fees for garbage removal, etc but may have reductions if u are only there in summer months. There is another unit above this one (door to left of entrance door) so there may be some cost sharing for roof maintenance. The upper unit may have terrace instead of tiled roof so would be little to none - but all fine details that should be looked into before making an offer.
Very nice place, I would put a Murphy bed in the bedroom, declutter the entrance area or organize storage better, put a couple of cozy chairs against the wall where the bed is, and have a nice lounge area with mountain views for those times of the day when you are not sleeping, which let's face it, is most of the day...
