This concert went out at a time when most of the world was under strict and fearful confinement... music is the one and only thing that can raise our spirits in time of stress.. so not only thanks, but also enormous respect, is due to the NDR orchestra, its conductor and sound engineers who produced this superb performance, in such dark days. You will all be remembered for this in generations to come..
"music is the one and only thing that can raise our spirits" and so does loving kindness, too, which is what the Brahms concerto is about. He wrote the double concerto to try and reconcile with the violinist dedicatee, Joseph Joachim, formerly one of his best friends. The cellist acted as a kind of go-between. This purpose more or less is behind the tenderness and playfulness of this wonderful music.
I came here for Julia Fischer, who is amazing, and stayed for the cellist, who is sensational. Interesting that in a recent interview she mentioned this performance as one that was extra special, because of the communication between the musicians.
This stupid piece has gotten stuck in my head like no other classical song! I don't think Brahms ever attained perfection, but his moments of brilliance are completely unbelievable.. my jaw is agape at the melodic moments in this piece! The guy must have been on crack! I mean you can hear such a sense of ecstasy and euphoria in "those moments" that I can hardly even imagine what was going through his mind...
Best interpretation I’ve heard on UA-cam! It’s wonderful to hear Brahms’ markings articulated with so much care and precision, and so much life breathed into every single phrase.
Listening to wonderful performance under the cherry blossoms in full bloom in Spring night while watching faint pink cherry petals fluttering down is bliss itself! Now in Tokyo the cherry blossoms are in full bloom everywhere, everywhere From A corner of cherry blossoms scented Tokyo of Japan
At last Johannes Brahms has a new opportunity to listen to his own work. It was such a long time ago he had the opportunity to sit in a consert hall! I dont know if he will shed tears, like old men do, me for example, but I believe he will, listening to these fantastic musicians. A quite wonderful consert! Afterwards the audience seemed to be content, in their own quiet way.
I see Johannes B. in the audience in. Although he doesn't look too happy to be in Hamburg, he would approve the concert and be amazed by the concert hall. Even playing for drunken sailors and hookers might become a fond memory. Okay, Johannes, smile and rest in peace.
Grandes artistas.
Merveilleux !

Very satisfying recording, highly calibrated microphone and placement. That did this piece justice, cello player is a fantastic match with Julia.
Thank you, much appreciated!!

@@jgbusquets so actually 13 years ago. Sorry my bad.
Brahms is in the audience.... now, that's pressure. Well done during a trying time, folks. Your performance is just gorgeous!

Hahaha, yes! ;) Glad to be back to less quiet concert halls, though!

Who else can't stand most of Brahms's works? It just wanders all over the place aimlessly with no thread to follow.
Did anyone else notice the cardboard people in the audience
😆 Well, there had to be some audience for the anniversary! Who did you recognize?
Bof
