Exhaustion makes them significntly weaker as I understand, as they were still fighting a fresh wave after wave. I'm guessing if they went through a chokepoint, unable to surround, and they all get exhausted, the Urbans would have won
Perhaps. I have tested once or twice 1 vs 20 with this setup and the Eastern Infantry won. The reason was that they pushed through the Roman formation, broke it up, and surrounded individual men :) Thanks for the comment.
A neat trick you can use is guard mode, in guard mode units never get tired, at least not in multiplayer when I did it. Only phalanx units. This was almost like cheating. If you had done this here the urbans would have won easily imo. Also the The urbans would also very likely have won this if you hadn´t gotten so close to the rest of the persian army. This boosted the morale (I think) of the persian units. Also the urbans didn´t get any rest, its okay not to give them any rest. But there is a difference in them constantly chasing units and if they had just braced for the assaults and/or if you had went back to a certain point then charged the urbans into the persians each time.
Yeah i gues, but that was the whole point of the video. We all know Urbans are like WH40K space marines and then against the UWU army, how much punishment can they handle. It was all for fun and it looked cool aswell. It was like watching a heroic scene from a movie. I gues like 300 but different. They just kept pushing, to the last man (sorta, they fled lol but whatever) It was an honourable fight!
Thanks for the comment. Agreed, that those would have helped the Urbans. Then again, there were routing friendlies next Eastern Infantries, which lowered their morale :)
@@qualityoldgames7721 you should activate guard mode from the beginning, especially when fighting weaker infantry and being outnumbered. The urban cohort would lose less stamina and can fight in full strength for a lot longer. But without guard mode they tire easily.
I think the phalanx played a bigger role in Sparta's victory personally. That shock impact of the spears is terrifying, never mind the fact that only flanking infantry end up doing any damage to the Spartans (eastern infantry aren't heavy enough to get through the phalanx).
@@napoleoncomplex2712 apparently phalanx formation is OP in original Rome if used correctly. If that worked the same historically, Romans would've never formed an empire.
@@XYZ-eo8um It's a little more complicated than that. In Rome's battles against the Macedonians, I know it was Roman maniples finding the Macedonians out of formation or finding a gap or open flank to hit (often when the phalanx was disrupted by rough ground). That said, I think the later Roman legions (when the legions were at their most battle hardened and Rome's military power relative to their neighbours was at its height) may have found a way to beat the phalanx from the front simply by outlasting the exhausted phalangites. I don't know. I'd have to read up on the battles again. I'm thinking specifically of the Mithridatic wars for the latter scenario. Generally, the phalanx was impregnable from the front, and maniples and legions had to slowly fall back. The way it was beaten was from more flexible units creeping around its sides or the phalanx coming apart and leaving gaps open which, funnily enough, is exactly what we see in Rome Total War.
Now what if the Urbans were on guard mode and had silver or gold weapons and armor, and the pajamas didn’t charge through routing friends and had their general yelling at them.
Would it have been better if the Urbs were in Guard mode once their numbers were getting lower? Without it, they were getting isolated and picked off slowly once there weren't enough of them. Of course, there comes a point when your numbers are too few and unit cohesion isn't possible.
Thanks for the comment. That might have been the case. Though, imo the Eastern infantry "pushes" quite hard to enemy formation and with large enough numbers can disrupt even a phalanx :)
Perhaps if you put the urban cohort in guard mode they would've won, they lose less stamina in guard mode and they got weaker as they get tired/exhausted. Against weaker infantry (and being outnumbered) it's always better to put guard mode on, and the opposite against stronger infantry.
I'm legit upset it wasn't classed as a heroic victory! 😅 the urbans only broke at the end due to feeling ashamed to slaying such stylishly dressed foes rather than numbers disadvantage and chronic fatigue. Ironically on a serious note though this test would be a decent benchmark for the armour and weapons upgrades and experience to see if they can improve from the 19 stacks it took them to kill the 1 urban cohort it would show clearly the scale difference (I believe anyway)

That was a pretty fun one. Really didnt thought the Pyjama Boys hat it in them to beat the Urban Cohort.
