- Avatar are a Swedish band that have really stood out since the release of their 4th studio album 'Black Waltz' in 2012. Lead vocalist Johannes says it was on Black Waltz that the band really "got [their] sh*t together". Johannes goes on to say after 'Black Waltz' "something clicked... and seeing the make-up awakened something that wasn't their before.. suddenly the music had its face".
Avatar are now set to release their 5th studio album 'Hail the Apocalypse' which is out May 12th. In this interview they talk to us about the song-writting process.

LOVE THIS BAND SOOOOO MUCH!
I met them back in '07 when they were touring with In Flames (and to some extent had the same kiiiiind of music), and f*ck me they were awesome. Not just as artists and performers- but as people! It was surreal suddenly hanging with them and talking about music and *their' music, and when they finally found their groove it all just clicked. Avatar has become something so amazing and I wouldn't have it any other way :D (all though playing old songs here and there live would be awesome!)
Like Michael Jackson. Man behind the mask. When J. Puts his clown makeup on he transforms. Something from within comes out. Like he mentioned. They are such a wonderful group. I'm so happy they have shared themselves with us.

I think it's more like the other way around! John has the type of look like "I never get to talk" and he actually said it "finally I get to talk" haha
They absolutely kill it live,HELL of a show.I hope to catch them in a small venue like The Machine Shop in Flint,MI again.Was great to meet them.
My fave Swedish band
BUT their self titled album (the third one) is SOOOO GOOOOOD. As good as Black Waltz I think, some parts better even.
Queen of Blades is pretty kick ass off that one along with others
Lullaby is my fav off that album
