You rule. I am getting ready to change my rears on a 2020 forester.
I knew about EPB but not like this.
    Update. Worked like a champ!

Thanks for the tutorial. Using the E12 socket to reset the EPB did the trick. No need to place the vehicle in maintenance mode. Fortunately, the cap screws securing the EPB to the caliper only needed an allen socket and the torque is so low that an allen key would be enough to get that portion of the job done. Good looking out for us Ax, much appreciated brother!

Thanks man! I've got less than 50,000 on my 2021 Forester, and I live in the mountains and the brakes are shot. This video took out the anxiety I've been having about doing the work myself. Appreciate it!

Your bolts came out soooo easy, I needed breaker bar to loosen. My 2019 had no ratchet room for bottom 17mm bolt, had to use crescent and hammer. Need short Allen #7 for top caliper. Coils in the way when on stands. Guess you have better clearance on a lift.

So you don't have to bleed the brakes?

I was looking for a video for the Outback....though this is a Forrester I assume it's the same or similar. Best video I've seen.

Rear brakes at 38K miles! I'm over 100K on mine and they're still the originals.

Definitely did the trick! I got stuck with caliper not lowering any further, the rotating of the actuator got the job done. Autozone rents the caliper lowering tool free of charge if anyone else is DIY. Thanks again though appreciate the video 👍🏽👍🏽

Alternative? Carefully rotate caliper piston with channel lock pliers, a few turns, be careful not to damage rubber bellows. Then compress piston with C-clamp like the old days. Go easy so as not to break plastic EPB. Turn piston some more, then clamp some. Alternate until piston completely retracted. Continue assembling pads & caliper.
