Volume 2 of the World of Coin Collecting series traces the beginnings of money from pure barter to the use of commodities like gold and silver, to the introduction of paper money representing these commodities and much, much more. We'll also discuss the progression from trading raw nuggets of "electrum"--the natural alloy of gold and silver, to the earliest "proto-coins", to arguably the first coin ever made: The electrum trite of King Alyattes of Lydia!

As my stack matures and my understanding of currency improves, I've started thinking of everything (even real estate) as currency. I have different columns on a continuum from gold to paper. Unlike fellow stackers, I actually believe that paper is extremely important for exchange, so I "stack" it. If I make the moves that I hope for, I'll have to include debt as a form of currency.
