Your interpretations of the Katas are always great. Always make me say "Of course! How I could not see it?!" 😆

Great stuff Iain, I practised karate for thirty years before starting jujitsu. Jujitsu let me understand many kata movements that made no sense before such as hip wheel in pinan/heian sandan. Watching your channel means the kata makes sense, much better than most instructors explanation of you turn block a kick then punch before repeating the same in the opposite direction. Really enjoy watching wish i had found an instructor with your knowledge back in the 1970’s👍

I did Karate when I was younger. Then I did some Jujutsu, some Aikido, and now I'm doing Chen TaiChi. They are all very different on the outside, but they are just different paths to the same mountain.

Every time I see a video of yours, I ask myself "what have I been practicing my whole life?"

@@goodbuy7556 Yes, but it's complicated. I moved to another town 10 years ago, and, well, the club here is pretty streamlined, with basically no bunkai training, only ippon and other kumite, and it's not even a sports karate club. Ian helps me research, but it's not enough, I'm basically practicing on my own now.

Outstanding instruction. It's like discovering fire for the first time.

Kata, forms, and jurus without application are choreography, not martial arts. You Ian, by contrast, are putting the function back into Karate’s form. I have been listening to your podcast, and I must say, you are a sage in a generation of fools. Extolling the virtues MMA has to teach TMA while reminding people that TMA was not always bunk made up as people went along.
Hopefully with external pressures from MMA, and pressure testing in TMA for once, the false dichotomy can finally end.

    Always enjoy your interpretations.
You have Mabuni Sensei’s Shito Ryu intro. Miyagi’ sensei’s doesn’t have this intro (which is the version I practice).
Seems very strength orientated, which kururunfa is not so much of a strength related kata. But as a strong guy myself, I did enjoy it

    Hi Iain.
I was wondering if you are planning any seminars in the Midlands area and can non Karataka like myself attend?
