HARDWICK HALL - THE BEST ELIZABETHAN MANOR HOUSE? + An Exciting Life Update | UK Travel EP.8

- Опубліковано 10 січ 2025
- In this Uk travel episode I take you around what is possibly the finest surviving example of an Elizabethan manor house. Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire is nothing short of spectacular. Now in the hands of the National Trust, the house was dreamed up by Elizabeth Talbot, The Countess of Shrewsbury. As the second richest woman in Elizabethan society, second only to Queen Elizabeth I herself, Bess of Hardwick as she became popularly known was a keen builder and Hardwick Hall is one of her many impressive houses. Other properties include Chatsworth House which you may recognise from films like Pride and Prejudice. You may even recognise Hardwick Hall as it played Malfoy Manor in the Harry Potter series. Come and join me as I take you inside the house and show you what is possibly the best surviving private collection of tapestries in the world.
Afterwards we go mushroom hunting in Sherwood Forest and share an exciting life update with you all!

Really enjoyed this trip!! Our Heidi is just so full of happiness and enjoying the moment! The van is awesome!! Grand idea.
Wouldn't fancy living in that house in the depths of an English winter. All that glass....madness! No wonder she liked tapestries....it's a form of insulation.
I'm shivering just imagining it and it's July in the South of France!
I really enjoy your tours and your calming voice. Such a pleasure. Incredible mushrooms! Thanks.
That's very kind of you, thank you! :) I'm so pleased you're enjoying our videos. Ooh yes - the mushrooms were amazing! I've never seen such a variety here in the UK before. It definitely makes me want to go on a foraging class so I can learn more
@@theslowtravelsfamily I’m the 12 great granddaughter of chatsworth and hardwick hall
Incredible house! I adore historic fabrics and these tapestries are divine! So glad they are being maintained. Sherwood Forest fungi hunt made me smile. Although I'm an American, my paternal grandfather was born in and grew in Nottingham. The family goes back several generations, many working in the lace trade. I wonder if any of them wandered this area as children.
Thanks for showing us these beautiful homes! Don’t know if I will ever make it to England in person, so your tours are my historic fix.
Absolutely beautiful building!this is quite local to me so spent many an hour there over the years.
Isn't it just?! I love it ❤️ I'm fairly local too so try and visit as often as I can. We're lucky to have so much beauty on our doorstep around here!
Nicki "Positano" brought me here!! Subscribed!
I spent some time in England, god over 10yrs ago now. Visiting Arundel Castle a few times was a memory that I've kept.
What a lovely video! I live on j28 of the M1 and adore the fact that these wonderful places are right on my doorstep. We are so lucky!!
Thank you 🥰 We have SO many fantastic places on our doorstep here in Derbyshire don't we?!

@@theslowtravelsfamily No unfortunately, but I would love to live there in a village or a small town. I go to Europe mostly. Or rather, I've been there.)
Hopefully one day :)

Charming video!
So pleased you enjoyed it! ☺
I was a volunteer at Hardwick Hall for a few years and on duty in the blue room before the visitors arrived I thought I would check in my notes what wood a beautiful cabinet was made of because I was always asked, when I walked back to my post I distinctly felt someone walking very very close on my right side in my personal space of you like,no one else there,I tried to find out more but the trust discouraged any talk of ghosts,a few of the older guides said yes the room was haunted.
That’s a fascinating story ☺️ I always love to hear about ghost stories.. I wonder why the trust discourage that? 🤔
Lovely mushroom finds!
What type ?
Can't believe how many we found!
That's a good question! I'm not very knowledgable about mushrooms to be honest so if anyone can enlighten us as to the varieties we found in this video I'd really love to know!
Such a beautiful vlog🌹
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it :) x
