- Peavey Classic 30 Guitar Amplifier (Made in the USA) . This is a great compact 30 watt tube amplifier loaded with a 12" Blue Marvel speaker. What I really like about this amp is how versatile it is and how it manages to cram in 30 watts in such a small box.

The tone & chops on that intro may be the best I've ever heard you sound & play. I could listen to that all day.
I agree, that was a sweet jam
This is how you do a review. Play the thing first, talk second.
This amp was my first amp. Managed to pick one up for 200 USD and served my well for a very long time and had features that my much more expensive amps I own today still lack. When the speaker finally died, a good celestion upgrade did wonders. Mine was an early 90s amp, and I miss it dearly. What an amazing work horse.
Very underated amp. Infact Peavey is an underated brand. It's quality and good value too
Great demo, shows off how it does everything very well. I rotate gear, even gear I swear will be part of my ‘permanent collection.’ I’ve had this amp for 14 years. Still kicks ass
I bought a Classic 30 back in ‘96 & it’s still my favourite amp of all time. Tip: pair it with a closed back 4x12 (you’ll never be the same!).
Peavy amps are the best kept secret in guitar the guitar industry. On the used market, they're such an incredible bargain.
I hope so, I'm looking to pick up a used 30 this weekend! :-)
Prices on Reverb seem to be spiking.
Hi. I m searching for an american sound. Is this right?
@@KaosII1968 yup. People (not all) on Reverb seem to have lost touch with reality
@@lucamontanarilughi530 definitely
that intro solo is sweet and it really captured the amp. Thanks
Thanks for doing a video of the Classic 30. I’ve used them since the 80s and love them. My favorite sound is the clean channel with the boost engaged. I simply switch channels for more gain. Very easy to get a good sound. All around dependable, great sounding work-horse amp for studio and stage. Great playing! 🤠👍
Love mine. Only use it as a pedal platform on the clean channel. Definitely heavy on the mids but switching out the speaker to a Celestion G12 tames that quite a bit. Also I switched out preamp tube v3 to a 5157 and makes it break up sooner and smoother. It’s not as pretty sounding as a Deluxe Reverb, specially the reverb but in a band context I would argue it sounds more defined, cuts and has way more headroom of course. Got mine in a pawn shop for 250 bucks.
Man, that opening groove hit the spot! Great review as always.
Just ordered an straight top tweed. Older one in mint condition. Fantastic review. Really helped me on this one. I had a Delta Blues as well but wasn’t happy. These Classic 30’s are some of the best tone amps Peavey ever built. I got it because Peavey has closed up and headed to China. I believe these will eventually go way up in value too.
By the way, I would love to see a shootout between PC30 and new Blues Junior IV ;).
Me too whats up InTheBlues???
Yes, definitely.
I recently picked up a very clean Classic 20 in tweed. Wonderful little amp!
I have 2 C 20’s! Love ‘em!
@@ProbableCauseBluesBand. Same!! And a 30. Use them as a W/D/W rig.
That intro though 👍🏽👌🏽, cheers from San Jose, CA
I just bought one of these, tweed but still. I absolutely love it. Cannot recommend highly enough.
This is the first tube amp that I ever owned. I love it and I still have it. Makes me a little sad that they aren’t made in the USA anymore but here in the US, you can grab one used for like 300 to 400. Cheers!
That SE Man through that Peav classic. Man....that's one helluva tone brother!!!
Nope. Muddy, less definition overall. The Tele wins here imo !
the fender bassbreaker and the peavey classic are my go-to amps. they take overdrive pedals beautifully
Which is your favorite?
I have this same exact amp. I changed the speaker to a wgs reaper, and mostly use the eqd palisades for overdrive. Your playing sounds great.
I bought a C30 when they first came out, and still use it! (Had the C50 combo's and head). The clean channel is great with pedals. Have also gotten a great overdrive sound from it for sessions. Changed the speaker out to a Mojotone BV-30H, which sounds great.
Mine is covered in fake tweed. It dates from the early 90's. I love it. I rarely use the boost switch. Too bad it is not accessible via the footswitch. It sounds good but what a mess to maintain!
Yeah I have no idea why they use fake tweed on their amps. My old delta blues (both of them) had that laminated crap on it. My friend Ric used to tease me about it! 😂
I had that same tweed tolex on my 90s era Classic 50. I peeled it all off and stained the wood cabinet. Now it looks as great as it sounds!
I have a chance to pick up one with the black covering with FS for 250 US. It looks new. Is that a good price.
This is not a bad price. Beware of tube sockets solder joints. Especially if the amp has worked a lot. The tubes are mounted upside down and as the heat goes up it stresses the tube sockets solder joints. 4 EL84 can become very very hot. Peavey's choice to have assembled this amp with 3 U-shaped printed circuit boards makes it very difficult to repair or expensive if you call a professional. Sorry for my english. :)
hlron your English is better than mine and I was born in USA. Thank you for your reply. This amp hasn’t been used very much as the owner is terminally ill. I’ll post a pic after I get it home. Have a great day.
I HAVE TWO PEAVY CLASSIC 30'S, ONE IN REGULAR TWEED, ONE IN BLACK TWEED,LOVE THEM. ALSO A PEAVY CLASSIC 50 (BLACK). GREAT AMPS AT A GOOD VALUE. NO REGRETS !!
When I started playing this you had 111 likes and 1,111 views.... sounds darn good, Shane!
Thanks for video Shane on the classic 30 m'y favorite amp 1 have own 2 peavey classic 30, 3 classic 20, and classic 20 mini head those are great amp i have to sold them need to survive!
M'y?
Great demo of the classic 30. There some nice, smooth sounding amps and also that’s some nice playing there as well
Has a great mix with pedals. Loves pedals. Very clean even up loud. Very under rated amp.
I have the Delta Blues which has the 15" speaker. I changed the reverb tank. Sounds great
I have the classic 30 as well and I think it sounds great. I will say that, I believe it's a marked increase in tone quality if you replace the V1 12AX7 with a more vintage style tube. (I use an RCA in mine, but an RCA or a Mullard would work) It was a drastic change in breakup and, to my ears, it was for the best. I have a video of the before and after on my channel, but the quality is shotty. (I basically recorded it for myself) The difference is still very noticeable, but the sound in person is much better than my video represents.
Do not own one but have used one as backline and was totally satisfied.
Great demonstration of this amp.
Love peavey classic amps!
Great tones great playing.
Awesome intro jam there Shane and great tone out of that PeaVey!! P.S. Cool little Boston Red Sox baseball plush guy sitting behind you on one of your amps!!
I have the tweed version, and i LOVE IT! It's an amp i enjoy playing the most. I use it clean with pedals, but it sounds great on it's own as well. And it's loud! I can't imagine a situation where this amp would not be loud enough.
I would love to se a comparios between the classic 30 and the blues deluxe, and i guess i'm not the only one!
Great content btw! I love that you are improving the video quality! The latest videos look amazing!
Rock on! :)
Just picked one up,brilliant amp. Surprised you didn’t show off the spring reverb, it’s remarkable.
I have the exact same amp....it's a wonderful tone machine. I replaced the Blue Marvel with an Eminence Cannabis Rex speaker. I wish I would have done that sooner. It prompted me to sell off my 1979 Fender Vibrolux. This Classic 30 totally kicked the VR's butt in tone and power. Absolutely love this amp. It's the "small" amp I need when playing the smaller venues.
Bought a 1993 Classic 50 2x12 for £150 last month. I'm in love! Now I'm looking for a Laney/Hiwatt to complement the Peavey.
Are Hiwatt and Laney the same amps?
I found the classic 30 to cover a lot of ground using only the clean channel with the boost on.....from clean to classic rock.....as long as you are running the volume between 2 and 3 oclock,,,,and get that speaker shooting right at you as well...... pretty smokin....the charector of the amp is just so much better at volume....no need for the dirty channel after playing the clean, boosted at volume
Sounds better than mine ever did stock. I've swapped the tubes for 12ay7 and 12au7s, replaced the caps in the tone stack and swapped the speaker for an eminence cannabis rex. Sounds much fuller now
The Bandits were the go-to for my circle of guitar-playing friends in the late ‘80s/very early ‘90s, but the Classics definitely ruled the roost from the early ‘90s on. A friend of mine still uses his now ancient-looking Classic (not a 30, something larger) from the early 90s that he bought brand new, and another rocks a proper tweed 30 all the time.
you and the amp, both sound great!
Love the tone, Shane!
Nice review, short and sweet.
Thanks for the vid Shane! Put a Blues Driver (gain around 2:00) in front of the clean/no boost channel an rock all night!!
Humbuckers with that recipe too. That’s my fave on that amp.
One of the finest amps ever (.) I wrote the name of all the controls right top of the amp with a silver sharpie . it's impossible to see that writing in the mirror not to mention I got a real old one the writing is set up right side I standing behind the amp oh but ots worth it. I usually dont even play anything I just love to hear and feel rhis amp.
I had a late 90’s model. I paired it with a G&L Legacy and a 90’s B-bender tele. Amazing sound!!! Sadly, we all make mistakes and I sold all of the above.
I sold mine years ago and just bought another one. It was the one amp thati regretted selling
Sweet playing in the intro! Nice!
Ultra smooth I like it in black.
Amo meu Peavey ac 30 SURPREENDENTE!...
Digo Classic 30
one of the best tones of your UA-cam channel... great!
Love mine it's just out of action needing new tubes at the moment
Bought sold rebought the beige tweed version. Now in my permanent collection. It’s an all timer. This video is more evidence. Great sound. Tweed voiced clean channel, its own dirty and dirtier channel, all sweet, and hip hip hooray
Great sounding amp! I may have to find myself one of these.
Good tone, I think it sounds best with your telecaster, I play thru a Vox and I Definitely like the tone from the Peavy, little bit darker while still being warm
Great playing, and a nice amp too.
Digging that black tweed!!
Sue Wheat!! Head to head with Studio Pro will be fun too. Great blues chops in opening!
Used to have a Tweed Classic 50-410 but sold it when I stopped gigging, do I ever miss it :(
love mine
Awesome intro playing. Perfect tone. Also where did you find that backing track for the intro?
I record them myself man 👍
Is there anyway you can share this one from the intro. Love the groove.
I would like to improvise on that backing track too. please share it Shane. thanx . as for the amp, I have the c30 tweed that was made in usa.I had to add a 120mm fan on the backside in order to keep it cool . I l also swaped the speaker for a greenback . it sounds so good that has tamed down my g.a.s for amps for the last 2 years. cheers
Great amps, great value
You really looked like you enjoyed the PRS through it, Shane. :)
I was wondering if I'd ever see you demo something from the Peavey Classic series. Fantastic survivor from Hartley's early days. I have an Axe FX II XL+ now and Cliff modelled a 5150/6505 for it, but not a Classic 50, so I'm hoping that will change or I might have to actually get a real one!
Was considering Blues Junior, but this amp is damn nice, need to look up price
More affordable than a Blues Jr., especially on the used market. An underrated gem imo !
Shane - you replaced the Barden pickups in your Tele? And it looks like you added a new control plate with a slanted switch slot - cool.
That intro 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Great sounding amp and a great demo. Thanks for posting. Question (Noob): How often would you need to replace the tubes on such an amp? how much does it cost (say per year) to maintain this kind of amp?
Probably close to zero dollars. If the valves are working it should last years. My Fender tube amps are 10 years old and haven’t had to replace the valves. Usually they go bad right away or hardly ever if the amps are new.
nice blues full of feeling ,I once nearly bought one of these but a more powerful version ,I think funk legend NIle Rodgers uses these amps
Great review. One question, I have a good deal on a peavey 30 and a Supro 10. My question is: I live in a flat and I don't want to be shot by my neighbours. Can I get good tones out of the peavey with a low volume? The Supro has great reviews and may be more suitable for a house. I trust your recommendation. Best wishes (I play a 6120 Gretsch)
I've noticed that all your telecaster guitars have a slight angle to the switch which I'm sure is not Factory original. Can you point out where to find a control plate that has that feature commercially available?
I'm curious to hear it thru the torpedo live using different speaker sims.
The 30 had always had the job of towing peavey. It was always screw peavey, well the 30 is killer!
GREAT VIDEO, Thanks, friend. And just one question; are all of the Peavy classic 30 MADE IN USA????
This series is but the newest amplifies are now overpriced amps made in China.
@@intheblues Thousand thanks, I´ve tested a Made in usa in a music shop, It´s an opportunity, second hand. I think I´ll get it. thanks again. follow your channel. In the blues rules.
Is there a particular website you get all the posters behind you from?
Chris Stanbridge I think he prints them out on his own.
I had one, tweed. It rattled like crazy with a lot of fuzz.. I liked it but traded it for a Marshall class 5
Lovely.
I got a classic 20 head and it says designed and engineered in the USA, Is it still made in Mexico it just dont say or did I get a USA one?
It's hard to tell these days. Some newer law that says if 80% or something is not completely USA made you cannot put "Made in USA" on it.
I noticed Fenders now just say Corona California ... No made in.
i WOULD VERY MUCH LIKE YOUR OPINION ON THE NEW PEAVEY VALVEKING 11 112 COMBO 50W ALL VALVE. PLEASE.
Is it the same amp than thé fender blues junior
Got mine 2 weeks ago. Smoking deal from GC. Fantastic amp. My Mesa Subway Blues is now collecting dust. I think the Mesa has a harsh upper mid, that I just can't dial out, but the PV has that rich tube sound that I want. Think the stock PV reverb is quite nice too. Not a master volume amp, but the pre and post controls on the gain channel is cool You can crank the power amp rather than just drive the front end harder. Or you can run gain pedals into clean channel, which works great too. Weird that it doesn't have a stand by switch, like most tube amps. I hope it doesn't have any problems, as I've read these are difficult to repair due to a 'folded' circuit board. Came w/ JJ power tubes, one of which cooked off yesterday. I had a spare on hand, but had already ordered a matched set of EH tubes, as I like their EL-84's. I just think they are are a little more musical than JJ, which are still great tubes. I am an intermediate player and need to practice more than buy gear, but I'm glad I got this. Fender guitar player.
Did you happen be able to form an opinion as to how it compares to the Epiphone Custom Blues 30 (all tube) or have you reviewed that amp by any chance?
I'm going to subscribe...
No pedals in these evaluations (I hope!)
and...
cheers
What's better - this, or marshall dsl20? ;)
Nice
Excelente amp
I had one. Great amp. Mine was stolen though which sucks.
Zombie II...nice
Great amp but inside circuit board is like a sandwich. Don't know is it same in this version but i think it is. Many doesn't want to fix those if something breaks. Celestion 65 creamback works nicely with this amp.
Bad ass tele
Nice Amp.
I had one of the little beasties in the mid 90's .. i sold it for 300 dollars
Is there a noticeable difference between this and the made in China version?
I wonder what it would sound like with a alnico cream speaker?
Yeah!
i see a Peavey classic Tweed price 364 euro and a classic with a footswich price 332.55 euro do you know the difference ??
The amp with the footswitch might have been made in China. Shane did a video discussing the Chinese Classic 30's last year, although he didn't demo the amp in the vid. ua-cam.com/video/fsCQJzMu-EUI/v-deo.htmln that vid Shane mentions several details you can look for on a US or Chinese Classic 30 to know where it was made. A "made in ..." marking on the amp, what type of speaker it has, can the power cable be disconnected from the amp or not.
I need to compare it to the tone king imperial
The dirty channel from what I could hear was that classic fizzy Peavey sound that I really am not fond of. That amp might make a good pedal platform?
Yes it is a great pedal platform.
Desert Island amp? Maybe :)
that folded circuit board is immediate deal killer
Nice zombie poster
