ya right. I just went through 4 gallons of stripper, 10 hours of pressure washing plus using a paint scraper to help losen the stain. it was Behr stain and I used two coats. the 2800 psi and stripper can barely touch this stuff. I was relentless and have another hour of work. This time one light coat of Pittsburgh semi so it fades naturally and can be removed like the video.

I think this video was done before the EPA banned methylene chloride in paint strippers. I believe sanding is the only way to begin a stripping project on a wooden deck.

That must've been before the EPA banned methylene chloride in paint strippers. Today's strippers do very little to strip stain from a deck. I've been stripping and scraping and pressure washing and it's done little to remove the old stain. I finally bought an orbital finishing sander and tested it and it works much better and faster than the chemicals. I heard a random orbital circular sander would be even faster but I feel more comfortable with the finishing sander to prevent accidental damage to the wood. My plan is to use all the stripper chemicals I bought to hit the spots the sander misses due to uneven wood. Then I'll use the scraper and pressure washer to hopefully get all of the remaining stain off. Then I'll use the all-in-one wood prep chemicals to renew the wood and neutralize the stripper chemicals. Finally, after drying a couple of days, I'll apply the semi-transparent stain. This is the hardest DIY project I've ever done!

I used a stripper on my deck yesterday. It only works on stain, not the deck paint Behr calls stain. Oh, well. Gotta do some chipping.

I love watching these videos, but patience is not one of my strong points..so much prep lol ..I bought my charcoal decking stain today and Ill probably just go outside tomorrow, sweep it and keep applying it until it looks amazing haha..if it doesnt Ill carpet the damn thing. I should have a channel on how NOT to do anything lol

@@justlooking4771 It actually turned out really REALLy well. Used a paintbrush as wide as a decking plank, 2 coats ...didnt need third as it was quite dark after second but I just wanted to use it all up so thinned the remainder. 8 months on and with half the deck in constant sunlight still looks like I did it yesterday. Good luck!

I just bought a cheapo sprayer. the key is if the hose has a decent pickup size you can use the sprayer with stripper which I recommend. my other sprayer the tube was too small and didn't work.
