I have 1996 Disco manuals 1&2, according to my manual there should be a thumbwheel on the top to allow adjustment. I'll do mine as per the book, thanks for your imput.
Good stuff , thanks. I just lost my brakes due to a blown hose .. had to use the hand brake to drive home. Now it doesn't engage untill all clicks .. just trying your trick now.. :)
I got it down to one click but how do you know when its in the exact right position? I turned it off and two blokes pushing and when I did one click, they couldn't move the car so im guessing that is the position it needs to be right?
I normally aim for 3 clicks being a fair amount of braking. Try just drifting the car along at say 5mph in neutral and then you should be able to feel when the handbrake is working when you pull it up by how much the car slows down. You don't want the brake dragging when it is meant to be off.
Hey bud, So I ripped out the carpet on the floor and replaced it with vinyl. In order to do that I had to take the centre console out and reef the hand brake. Now its time to put the car back together and when I do what is shown in this clip it just keeps turning and turning and the handbrake won't tighten. Can you help? Cheers Gary
Hi, Here are some thoughts: Is the plastic knob in place over the metal threaded end of the cable? Are you turning the threaded metal end anti-clockwise, using a 15mm spanner? How about disconnecting it all again and with it detached getting a better view of how the adjuster is meant to work?
Serious question, why not adjust it on the brake? Just take a wrench to the brake under the truck and with the hand brake engaged, tighten the bolt until it doesnt move, then go back and release the hand brake and check function.
@Robert Barnes Have done both methods, i find the method in the video is soooo much more effective. And easy. Probably related to the fact you are adjusting out the normal shoe wear, rather than the other end of the shoes.
Excellent video. Thank you
Cheers

Yes I also used to do it by the book but it is very difficult to adjust it enough with just the thumbwheel, hence this new method/tip

Hi, can you tell me where is the release cable for the 1998 LRD 1 LE..?
Do you mean bonnet (hood) release? And Discovery 1? If so on left side under dash. A pull lever.

+comeinhandynow shit I was doing it clockwise!! Let me try how it should be done, cheers

The handbrake is on the transfer box output under the car in the middle on this car.
@@comeinhandynow yup and super easy to get to workout having to do half the work as this video.
