By the time they get feedback on the pre-production R1 models in circulation at the Olympics I still believe the R1 won't be available until late November, early December as was the case with the R3.
I think you're optimistic. I'm thinking mere mortals won't see the R1 in their hands until 2025. But the R5ii? THAT camera is a mid- to late-Q4 delivery camera. Not many mere mortals will see an R5ii before Q4.
Truthfully, I am ready for the R6 Mark III. Now that the R1 is almost here, the R5 Mark II has yet to be announced. Nikon comes out with the Z6 III and Canon is not responding.
The R6II still more than holds its own. The Z6III is certainly a good camera but nothing that should make Canon users blush imo
It's interesting and fun to get an insight in the technology front line. I will never be able to afford to buy any flagship but I really enjoy taking part in it. So keep up the good work 🙂
Canon lost my money for the R1 with the 24mp sensor, what an absolute joke...SMDH.

Thanks, Simon. Canon shooters really have been waiting for both the R1 and R5II forever. I could see Canon doing the big announcement for both cameras on the same day if they tease it first so photographers know it will be both. Looking forward to your upcoming videos and live with guests.

My sources have always stated that the R1 would be announced first, released and shipped first. Not only because of the Olympics but ready for the NFL season and MLB postseason. The R5ii will be ready for Christmas to help Q1 numbers.
If that 24 mp speculation is true then I‘m not sure why a lot of people would buy it over the R3

Sure, at local retail stores they have more flexibility, they are taking deposits, but nothing from Canon has been announced yet. Things should moved quickly after July 4.

I have said this in previous videos it will be July 16. It comes at the end of the Euro and Copa America Football (Soccer) Tournaments and a week before the Opening Ceremonies for the Olympics. It will be, we were at the two largest soccer tournaments, here are some photos from there, and we will be at the Olympics next week. The R1 is for news and sports pros, and this is the perfect place to show it off.

Sony is rather odd at the "flagship" level. The a1 has no big battery, no built in grip, no ruggedization. It has the high res sensor to compete with the Z9 . . . and the R5. In many ways, Sony's a1 is the closest competitor to the Canon R5. But that price! Originally, $2,500 more than the similarly-spec'd R5. NOW, $3,500 more than its closest spec competitor! What's up with that?
@@billmartin1010 the A1 has a far superior sensor to the r5 mark1 also you can buy a battery grip for the A1 its just not built in wich for me tbh is a good thing
@@francis2339 We can argue sensor technology. There are trade-offs for both cameras. But the lack of a big battery to drive the focus on big lenses is a disqualifier for a lot of "flagship" camera buyers. I really like the a1, by the way. If it were priced competitively with the Z9, I would likely own one! (That price! How is it priced $1,000 over the price of a Z9?)
@@francis2339 A battery grip is not a substitute for a big battery. Battery grips only add weight and size and a second battery of the same power level -- no benefit for driving focus. Big batteries make a huge difference with the larger super-telephotos. That's why the Nikon and Canon "flagships" have them.

They dont have to have the R1 out the door by the Olympics. I think I remember an interview by a pro sports shooter that had an R3 the last Olympics and Canon had announced it, but not the specs. So he was having to scrub meta data before he sent the photos in and other photographers were asking him questions about it that ue couldnt answer.
Nobody is playing Catchup more then Panasonic. Nobody. They flew out a ton of folks for a lower level, Panasonic S9, all the way to Japan. Now here is the funny thing, the very same folks that were Brutal about the S9 can't stop themselves from giving nothing but love for the Nikon z6iii while being really petty about Canon Products. The BRANDS Flagship products are NICHE products for just about everyone. They merely represent by far the smallest segment of sales for any Brand. The Canon R5ii is the BREAD and Butter Product for Canon. The R1 shows us many of the Tech innovations that will eventually work their way down the lineup.
True, the five series is the big money maker, as the Z8 is for Nikon, but Nikon went a different route with their flagship.This is interesting as Nikon and Canon usually match each others cameras closely - not this time.

Adorama always has the best bundle deals. I’ve always compared them before a big purchase and they always have the better price.

Still wondering how you got your original R5 a week early because your channel was that much smaller at the time, and I wasn't yet following any photography youtube channels yet ..
It's always down to the people. While I am much bigger this time, I don't expect to have the camera much sooner. I will have it day one though.
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker But if you did get it sooner, you'd have to sign an NDA and you'd say you don't expect to get it sooner. Which is fine because it's part of the game ;-)
On the other hand, reporting on rumors while under NDA could be tricky because you'd have to hide the large grin from your face 😛
Anyway, the first 3 weeks of July I'm certain to collect a huge backlog of you shows, because I'll be all day enjoying my current gear in the Scottish Highlands, including the Puffin island Lunga. After that trip, my R5 will be around half of its rated shutter life (in less than 2 years of usage)
I would never take a camera before it is announced, but when I got the R5 in 2020, it was after the announcement, it was a production camera and I was able to say anything I wanted to
Nikon gave seemingly everyone with a UA-cam account a Z6iii to test ahead of time. It was their strategy and it was a good one. It definitely got the word out! The quality of a lot of those "reviews" is pretty bad and tellingly uniform (scripted by Nikon?). But it was very difficult to miss seeing six or seven Z6iii thumbnails at a time on UA-cam.
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker That's indeed the purest line to walk in your "rumor-business" .. However I can imagine it would be pretty tempting when Canon stands on your doorstep begging you to play with the new toy before announcement .. but possibly Canon isn't as desperate as Nikon 😛
Preorder it in July and peons might get it by next year. If you are a high end pro or influencer, they will get them sooner. And Canon will blame supplier problems, regulatory problems, parts shortages. Almost predictable at this point. But they'll pump out a lot more patents in the meantime!
*It's so late ! So disgustingly late ! Who cares anymore ? Nikon has Rightly stollen their thunder with their Z6III, (and the Z9H will blow the R1 straight out of the water no doubt). Canon knows they've dropped the ball with the R1 release, and they're putting all their muster into the upcoming R5 II release to compensate. The existing R5 is a beast of a camera, after Canon successfully fixed it with firmware updates, because it was broke and a total abortion when Canon released it. The only thing left to finally ascertain in regards to the R1 is if it has been worth the BIG WAIT ? The R1 better be able to make Breakfast for you as far as I am concerned !*
If it was your intention to take out your frustrations online then I'm sure you know many more ways to do that, but to even dream you need a flagship is fantasy. With language like yours I'd be surprised anyone would let you walk around with their brand in your hands. Embarrassing.

Huge difference between Nikon and Canon. Nikon doesn't get much day-to-day attention on the internet -- not like Canon does. Nikon aren't market leaders -- they're playing catch-up. As a result, Nikon went EVERYWHERE to promote the Z6iii. They must have sent out hundreds of pre-announcement camera bodies! There are Z6iii "review" videos from people I've never seen videos from before! (Are some of these Nikon employees?) Nikon SATURATED the internet with Z6iii . . . but they have to. Otherwise, nobody would notice them. Canon doesn't have to do that. They get daily attention from multiple internet review and rumor channels without doing a thing! Canon already has our undivided attention.
Cause the z6iii isnt flagship... take a look back then when canon released their r6ii , they dont even give any hints about that from them till the day they officially announced it and the same goes to r8 and r10 , r50 and r100

@billmartin1010 Marketing doesn't work that way at all! Coca Cola is the most popular soda in the world, and they still invest absolutely mind-blowing amounts of money into marketing. Canon just doesn't give a damn - they positioned themselves perfectly, a lot of their fans believe only they make great cameras (without even trying other brands) and they bash others in order to make their favorite brand superior. Kind of something that Apple does.
